Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Voidbeast (1)

In the narrow entrance, silent footsteps echoed.

Lucas stealthily moved with his light and thin body, arriving at where he originally came from in a matter of minutes.

Due to the awakening of his aura and entering the first stage of body refining, his speed and strength explosively rose. In fact, if he wanted to, he could've arrived much earlier.

But he wanted to take things slow. Firstly, he wanted to preserve his energy and observe the void beast before engaging in a battle with it. 

He wanted to measure his chances and options. 

In truth, there was also the choice to not engage in a battle at all. But he would feel unsafe if the beast was still alive while he's exploring the landscape. Not only that, but he wanted to know where his strength placed in comparison with the creatures of this world.

It was reckless, but with no information about anything, he had no choice but to directly test things out by himself. 

After a while of careful observation, he found out that the void beast had inexplicably vanished. There was not even the slightest trace of its existence.

"Where is it?"

Lucas muttered, bewildered. He squinted his eyes, trying to find the void beast that was chasing him earlier. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he searched, the void beast was nowhere to be seen.

When he was about to give up, an idea suddenly dawned on him. Lucas straightened his back and took a deep breath. He concentrated before strongly calling out to his heart.

"Voidshadow Iris!"

At that moment, his eyes that were deep mellow black turned faintly purple and released a strange magical aura around his irises. He couldn't exactly tell what had changed, but he felt his sight undergo a major transformation.

Similar to the sight he saw last time, the darkness that was normally static and unresponsive, danced and breathed like living beings. 

Some of those breathing "darkness" surrounded him and circled around his body, as if welcoming and celebrating his presence. 

However, those details were quickly shoved away from his mind upon seeing something in the far corner of the landscape. 

Lucas' eyes slightly widened. 

In the far corner of the dark landscape, the large void beast that chased him earlier slept peacefully with closed eyes. He couldn't help but be surprised upon confirming the theory in his mind.

Originally in that far corner, there was no void beast that was laying around. It was an empty area, like the rest of the dark land. However, after activating the soul technique, Voidshadow Iris...

The void beast inexplicably appeared like it was always there from the start.

'It seems Voidshadow Iris gives me sight of the concealed creatures in this world...'

Lucas thought. What a miraculous, magical ability. He had a feeling there was more to the technique than what he understood of it.

However, he still knows far too little about everything to grasp on that feeling. For the moment, he would take things one at a time and focus on the present.

Lucas shook his head and analyzed the beast. The beast, undoubtedly, was more powerful than him in pure strength. However, that was not an issue. He never intended a frontal confrontation from the start, anyway.

It was just so that he was quite lucky and the void beast was peacefully asleep. Using that to his advantage, he could launch a powerful sneak attack, increasing his chances of killing the beast.

It would be infinitely better if he killed the void beast in one strike, however, that wasn't feasible.

A battle was decided in three steps; power, equipment, and information. If one has all three, they win by default.

Not only was his body still too weak to use the core techniques of his previous world, he was also lacking any sort of armory and important information about the beast.

Without any of the three steps, he was at a huge disadvantage. But… that doesn't mean it was all hopeless and an automatic defeat.

Who was he?

Lucas was one of the most powerful and intelligent individuals in his previous world. After his long continental travels, he accumulated enough battle experience to turn even the most hopeless battles around.

In the case of stealthily arriving near the beast, he already got it covered, that was what made him confident to fight the beast anyway. 

But for the attack that can weaken the beast...

"I wonder if 'that' will be enough...?"

Lucas whispered quietly, remembering something. 

The only thing he could think of was 'that'. A very powerful attack that had a long charge rate. It was basically an unusable technique in his previous world due to its strict requirements of long undisturbed concentration.

However, under the right circumstances, it was one of the most feared attacks in the world. 

"However, it's risky though. If it's not enough, then it would leave me defenseless from the aura recoil…"

Lucas mumbled. It was basically a 50/50 move. 

The attack he was thinking of was — [Aura Overload] — a technique where one gathers all their aura into one unstoppable explosive attack.

The downside of it is after unleashing the attack, one would suffer aura recoil, a case where the body is unable to adapt with the sudden deficiency of aura.

"Then rather than using all of my aura, let's just use a reasonable amount…"

After a while, Lucas came to terms with his plan. Originally, before coming here, he hoped to kill the beast in one strike, but due to the lack of data and information, there was a great chance it would backfire at him instead.

So his plan changed from killing the beast in one strike, to weakening it and gradually killing it through sneak attacks.

"Alright then, let's start."

Lucas slightly raised his hand, channeling a large amount of aura towards his palm. While he was doing that, he activated one of the Soul Techniques on his mind.

'[Void Plunge]'

At that moment, his body subsided into the darkness, vanishing from sight as he turned into an unidentifiable shadow amidst the dark landscape.

The void beast snored, causing the wind surrounding it to shake. Its tall and large body lay on the ground, slumbering away in peace

From afar, it looked like a terrifying behemoth that would cause nightmares to countless people. It wasn't an exaggeration to call it a Beast of Fear.

Its mere presence scared the "darkness" away, as if afraid of the void beast's mere existence. 

However, it didn't stop some of the "darkness" that were curious. 

Mindless, curious dark spirits floated near the beast, and before the dark spirits could react, they fell to the ground, turning scarlet red.

The "darkness" that approached mutated to red, akin to a corruption of essence. Afterwards, the "darkness" absorbed in the void beast body, turning into dark purple.

If one wasn't close enough to the beast or having no extraordinary sight, they wouldn't be able to even see this strange, terrifying sight.

It was invisible to the human eye, akin to cells dividing and multiplying.

While the beast peacefully slept, a bright light suddenly shone on its face, disturbing its sleep.

"Groagh…" 

The void beast growled, its sleepy eyes opening. In front of it, a spherical bright, colorless light, radiating boundless powerful pressure, floated.

Before it could process the sight in front of it, the bright spherical light… suddenly exploded.

Boom—!
