Gaspard is a young adventurer barely twenty-one years old. He comes from the village of Rana, a small village a day from the town of Stinrol where he came to become an adventurer and, as all novices hope, earn easy money before taking a quiet retirement.

But Gaspard quickly came back to reality and realized that unlike legends where adventurers easily earn wealth and marry princesses, the reality is much more complex. And even though some adventurers can become overpowered and incredibly rich, it's still a drop in the bucket and not a general rule.

Two years ago when he left his village, he was enthusiastic about the adventures that awaited him. Like everyone else, he started as an F-rank adventurer and began to quickly chain missions at the end of rising as quickly as possible to the higher ranks.

At Rank F, he could only do simple missions like collecting grass near the city, clearing snow during the winter, doing cleanup, etc. but he kept advancing and became Rank E.

At rank E, you have access to combat missions such as hunting slimes or, if you are in a group of at least 4 E ranks, hunting goblins. Normally this is a D-rank mission but groups of more than 4 members can perform missions of a rank above them. Apart from that, things have not changed much since in the guide we have the right to do the missions of a rank below us. So when he wasn't hunting, he continued with the same jobs as at rank F.

At rank D, he started hunting goblins solo before finding a group of which he became the eighth member and with whom he had a good time. And that's where things got complicated. He hit a bottleneck and no matter how much he trained, he no longer saw the fruits of his efforts.

But all was not lost, even if he could not become rank C himself, he could make his group rise in rank. Each group carries the rank of its weakest member but can rise from rank to rank in condition to succeed perfectly, a higher rank mission.

Being all at rank D, in order for their group to be considered a Tier C group, they had to pass a Rank C mission and pass a guild test. He told the rest of the group about it and his proposal was immediately rejected before being accepted when he promised to take full responsibility in case of failure. He himself chose the mission of eliminating a troll who was spotted towards the center of the forest. After a day of preparation, everyone was ready to go.

Their group consisted of 6 warriors including himself as well as a mage and a scout. They weren't the most balanced team there was, but they were coping with it. They met at dawn in front of the city gate, before heading towards the forest.

Claude's point of view

My name is Claude and I am the leader of the "Dragon's Breath" group. It's a pretty glorious name for a band that is barely D-rank, but I know that one day this name will ring out across the continent. Like most days, we are in the forest near the town of Stinrol, a forest that is familiar to us because we have carried out hundreds of missions there.

But unlike other days, we didn't come to hunt goblins or gather hard-to-find herbs near the city, but we are here to kill a troll. A giant humanoid creature famous for its rapid regeneration, making it a nightmare for any adventurer who decides to confront it.

At first I didn't want to tackle a C-rank mission. But Gaspard insisted so much that I began to think about it and consider this possibility. Of course I also wanted to go up to rank C. Unlike the lower ranks, rank It is the limit between beginners and seniors. It is also the last rank that can be given easily.

Being stuck at rank D for 2 years, it was a golden opportunity even if it is a rise as a group. But my decision was made when Gaspard said he would take full responsibility for any problems that might arise during the mission. Finally, to avoid any misunderstanding, he had the right to choose the mission we are going to execute.

"There are three goblins right in front of us."

We see a gigantic monster walking around with a club in his right hand.

I give the signal of a hand movement and we start to surround the troll on different sides. Vincent and Jules go to his left, Gaspard and Lucas to his right, as soon as an opportunity arises they will charge without hesitation. Me and Hugo will charge in front while Alexandre prepares to cast a spell. Erik will stay with Alexandre until he finishes his spell.

Seeing that everyone is in his place, I launch myself in the direction of the Troll who turns around and spots me just as early. But that's okay because my goal wasn't a surprise attack. He tries to reach me with his club but I dodge backwards and plant my spear in his forearm before removing it just as early. His wound closes in a split second.

As he turns around I stick my dagger into the tendon near his heel and he stumbles before falling. This is the moment we have been waiting for. I see Vincent, Jules, Gaspard and Lucas come out of their hiding place and run briskly towards the troll on the ground and each of us attacks with all our strength to do the most damage.

Just then, Erik gives the signal and we move away from the troll on the ground who begins to get up. But before that happens, a large fireball about 2 meters in diameter crashes into the troll's back and explodes. The warm wind hits us hard as we continue to move away from the troll to gather in a place a little further away.

Prior to this expedition, we put in place methods to counter the troll's regeneration. First of all we coated our blades with poison finally to force it to constantly regenerate and thus pump its endurance. Then I left my dagger in his wound and thus delay the regeneration of it. The last countermeasure was to use a powerful fire magic that according to our research slowed down the troll's regeneration.

We watch the troll as the fire begins to go out and wait for the smoke to clear. We see a shadow moving in the smoke and before warning, something very quickly crosses the cloud of smoke and hits Gaspard who has barely had time to protect himself with his arms.

We are all in shock. No one is concerned with the troll throwing his club. Especially after taking that fireball. Suddenly my instinct screams at me and without taking the time to think I move away very quickly from others with all my strength and roll on the ground.

I quickly get up and observe what happens. I see the troll who just arrived on my friends and takes care of them in a few moves. We made a mistake in coming together. But something is wrong with this troll. His skin turned red and he became faster and stronger.

The only ones who are still standing are me and Erik and Alexandre who stayed in hiding. I prepare myself while I already see the troll rushing at me with his fist is ready to crash on me. I throw myself to the side and try to plant my spear in his hand but it only makes a scratch that closes so soon.

Erik comes out of hiding and tries to hurt the troll with his arrows but it barely crashes before being spit out by the wound which regenerates at very high speed. As if he had learned from the previous fight, he focused on me without paying attention to the arrows Erik throws at him.

I run, while giving Erik an angle of fire, while the troll chases me relentlessly by throwing punches at the slightest opportunity. Alexander has no more mana, Erik no longer has arrows and I am out of breath not to mention our comrades who are on the ground may even be dead. Since the arrows are coming to the wounded him, I hoped that the poison would take effect before I was exhausted. But I was wrong and now I'm just putting off the inevitable. Gaspard's point of view

After being hit by the troll's club, I hit a tree that uprooted so early. My arms in compote and my whole body burns me. I feel the pain in my bones but no sound comes out of my mouth. I try to see what's going on around me and see that most of my friends are down. I see Claude awkwardly dodging the troll's attacks and Erik who persists in shooting arrows who barely plants himself in the troll's back before falling like dry branches.

My whole life passes before me. How I got out of my village, my first mission as an adventurer and how excited I was, the difficulties I faced as an adventurer as well as all the good times we had as a group. I am grateful for all these moments spent with you. I feel the tears coming to my eyes. I'm sorry I dragged you into this, my friends. Suddenly a brief, high-pitched sound like a ringing bell calls out to me, and words appear in front of me as if floating in the air.
