Chapter 5: Grown up hatchlings

[Astrid's POV]

"Big sis where are you?"  Bloodcloud walked on the ground beneath my hiding spot. We were currently playing hide and seek. "Why is everyone so good at this?!" He said frustrated. I giggled. He turned his head in my direction. I pressed my hand on my mouth and my skin instinctively changed color to match with the tree I was sitting on although I knew that changewings had absolutely no problem to find others who were also camouflaged. 

"I found Shadow!" Raywing screamed from far away. "It's fun seeing nearly grown-up dragons playing like hatchlings. I didn't expect for granny to appear so suddenly, and I fell out of the tree. "Got you big sis!" Bloodcloud said as he nudged me with his snout. "You busted me granny!" I said.

I dubbed the changewing who brought me here granny after finding out he was actually a she and one of the oldest dragons in this nest. At this very moment Shadow and Raywing came through the bushes. "Did you find her?" Raywing asked Bloodcloud. "No! Granny pushed me down the Tree!" I protested and everybody started laughing. 

"By the way were are the other two?" I asked them and everybody was silent. A very weak snoring could be heard. "I knew I should have named him Pillow!" I said as I pushed the bushes aside revealing the changewing sleeping comfortable on the ground. "Nightwing wake up!" Shadow nudged him with a bit too much force. 

"Let me sleep..." he grumbled. "Do you know at least where your sister is?" I asked him. "Snowlake?" "Yes Snowlake!" "Eating... what else?" he said and continued his sleep."

Maybe you need a quick explanation of their names:

 

Shadow: is the black dragon. I named him because of his obvious different skin tone. He was also the dragon I had the strongest bond with.

Raywing: She has a dark red ray like pattern on her left wing, which is where the name came from.

Bloodcloud: If you ask him for a solution, he would always come up with something unnecessary brutal.

Nightwing: Always sleeping

Snowlake: She admires the different scale color of Shadow so much that she changes her own 24/7 to pure white which looks really cool. Also, she is extremely afraid of water, that's where the lake came from. Sometimes the huge amounts of fish she eats makes we worried as she also is the smallest.

 

We have grown to be a family over the years and although none of us aren't really related we just address each other as siblings while I have the honor of being their big sis who raised them. 

"I'm happy that you are able to catch your own fish by now or else I'd work myself to death just to feed Snowlake" I said making everybody laugh. "What is that new stuff you're wearing?" shadow asked curious. "Just my new armor..." I said intentionally not mentioning who's scales I used. 

"I said my scales make a really good armor. I have the strongest scales in the entire nest after all!" Bloodcloud praised himself. "But mine were used the most because they are the most beautiful!" Snowlake protested as she heard as walking closer.

"There they go..." I sighted and granny laughed. "They really are siblings" she chuckled. "Damn, they could've been born from the same egg" I buried my head in my hands as the fight grew louder and louder. 

"Big sis! Whose scales did you use?" Shadow asked me having no intention of listening to his siblings continue any longer

"I used Bloodcloud's scaled as the base for all the sensitive spots that have to be well protected and Snowlake's scales as decoration. Raywing's as belt for my weapons and Nightwing's as my helmet while Shadow's are in the handle of my weapons" I finished.

"I said my scales are the most important!" Bloodcloud praised himself. "But without mine big sis' armor would look as ugly as you!" "No please not o almighty god!" I said as they continued once again. "Looks who comes there!" the guard at the nest entrance said. "I could hear you from miles away!" He said and laughed.

"What do you say uncle guard?" Snowlake asked the dragon. "Well, everybody has contributed to her armor?" He said but the siblings were unsatisfied with his answer. "Just tell us!" 

"Have fun!" I continued walking in the nest leaving the guard with the four siblings. Only Shadow followed me. "You can't leave me alone with this crazy pack!" He screamed as I walked further away.
