Chapter 2: Extra Rune

When the vehicles passed by him, the focus on the red bees changed to Kai. It seemed that those creatures came from the meteors and they wanted human blood, but Kai had other plans for his own blood.

"Just because I am homeless now, it doesn't mean that my blood is cheap," Kai said while grinning.

Kai used Sword Materialization and then made it fly toward one of the bees… his first target was hit, and the creature began to agonize with the wound on its face, even though the sword soon disappeared. The others got closer, but that only helped Kai hit them with more ease… unfortunately, they were all agonizing, but not a single one died.

"I didn't know that bees were as tough as cockroaches… better smash them with my feet," Kai said, and then he began to jump on the monsters' heads, making slimy blood splash to all sides and even on himself, but he ignored it.

"It even has this, huh," Kai smiled in satisfaction. "Let's just hope that all of this is real and think that my brain wasn't fried up to the stress that my previous situation caused me."

It was hard to say if Kai was still that disconnected from reality. He was hoping that his mind was okay, but at the same time, he was hoping that the city was being invaded by monsters while being rained down by meteors.

"Still, that was refreshing… I should look for more monsters to kill," Kai said while looking around.

More vehicles began to pass by him while heading to the exit of the place, so the people, while seeing him, could only think that he had gone mad. The smirk on his face didn't help them to think otherwise…

"I wonder what will happen if I find more of those stones…" Kai asked while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "That seems like fun."

The stone that he got apparently flew straight at him. Considering the situation, maybe it flew toward people to fight the monsters, but that didn't make sense. Why would they come alongside the meteors that brought the monsters?

"Not that it matters, I just want to enjoy the moment… I guess losing everything means that I don't have anything to hold me back," Kai said while smiling.

After heading to the center of the city, Kai saw a lot of people barricading themselves inside buildings while monsters were attacking the doors and entrances of those places. Some tried to hide inside vehicles, but their sting easily pierced those. Kai stopped to see a middle-aged man being attacked by one, and the creature bit his neck and drained all of its blood. The side of the creature increased by twenty percent…

"I guess that guy didn't get a stone," Kai thought when the red bees turned to face him. "You wanna piece of me?"

The red bee just flew toward him, and Kai just crossed his arms and summoned his blue sword, and made it fly toward the creature. The first strike pierced the face of the beast a bit, but it barely stopped it.

"As expected, the size grew, and so did its flying speed and endurance…" Kai nodded to himself.

Kai had to fire three more swords to kill the creature. Fighting up close would have been a lot more dangerous. While it could have been fun, living for longer and seeing what happens would be even more fun.

[You recovered a rune. Obtain nine more runes to improve the tier of your class and species.]

[You recovered the Fire Archer rune. You can choose an adequate warrior to give this rune. Half of the experience obtained by then will be shared with you.]

"Ha?" Kai frowned without hiding his annoyance. "Why can't I use the rune? Dark Slayer seems pretty good, but I would rather keep my options open… why the hell should I give this power to others?"

After thinking for a short while, Kai realized that the guy in the car probably obtained a rune but tried to escape without using it. The rune was absorbed by the monster and made the creature get a lot stronger… that made sense considering the experience that he got by killing it.

"This shitty system…" Kai said while looking around. "At least I don't have to babysit anyone, and as long as I can give this to someone who has the balls to fight, I should gain something out of this. Still, it will be a problem to let those monsters get too many runes, and I guess their species will improve one tier like mine."

The higher the tier, the stronger he would get. At least, that was what Kai assumed. He didn't know how, but it didn't matter. Sooner or later, he would understand.

Another group of red bees was chasing another group of cars, but then Kai saw one woman hidden behind a trash can on the corner of the street. One of the bees looked at her for a moment and then ignored her…

Kai kept looking at the scene until the driver of the car hit on an energy pole and was surrounded by the monsters. Somehow, he summoned a fireball and hit one of the monsters, but another stung his chest… Once the man turned into a mummy, the monster grew.
