Mana and Raven chatted with Rook for a while, glad that they would all be able to go to the Amber Kingdom together.
"We will go a little later," Mana said. "We'll stay in the Sapphire Kingdom for a few days and then head to the Amber Kingdom."
This was because firstly, they had to go and meet the mysterious and elusive master of Queen Dora, and secondly, they had to return to the Emerald Kingdom and get a royal pendant for little Alya.
If Queen Dora's master didn't take up too much of their time today, they could actually get both things done today itself.
Speaking of Queen Dora's master – if Raven went off with them, then how would General Aquila be able to stay back in the Sapphire Kingdom for the day?
Mana and Raven glanced at each other. They had not considered this at all – they had been too preoccupied with the situation with the Amber Kingdom, since that was actually a much bigger problem. General Aquila would be fine for a few hours on his own – but if Queen Dora's master took longer, then…
"We need to speak to Papa and Ma," Mana told Raven – she could see from the doubts in his rainbow eyes that he was having the exact same thoughts as she did.
Raven nodded.
Rook, on the other hand, was confused. "Ma? Who's Ma?" he asked curiously. Because all of them referred to Crown Princess Pica as 'Mother'.
Mana and Raven exchanged a glance. They trusted Rook and General Aquila completely, and they knew that King Jaren did as well. There would be no harm in including them in the secret.
"Rook, we need you to do us a favour," Raven said quietly.
"Of course, Big Brother Raven!" Rook said happily. After all, he had become the number one member of Raven's Fan Club!
"Could you get Father Aqi and meet Mana and I in Papa's room in a bit? We have something important to discuss with you," Raven said.
"Yes, Big Brother! I will go and fetch Father right away! See you in a few minutes!" Rook responded enthusiastically and ran off before Raven had a chance to say anything else.
Mana chuckled and patted Raven's arm. She quite liked Rook now that he had completely changed his attitude towards Raven. Rook would grow up to be the best battle general under Raven's empire, Mana was quite sure of this. The boy's fighting prowess, inherited from General Aquila, was incomparable. He would be a better warrior than Raven or Jules, even.
And it was good that he was so dedicated to Raven now!
"Let's go and meet Papa and Ma," Manan suggested. "They should be up by now, since Rook mentioned that your grandfather spoke with Papa this morning."
Raven nodded and then frowned. "Papa must have had a lot to catch up with Ma, right? They must have slept late – should we disturb them now? Even if Papa spoke to Grandfather early in the morning, since Rook didn't know about Ma, isn't it likely that Papa came out to speak to Grandfather by himself, and when they finished talking, he went back to sleep?"
Mana smiled and shook her head. "Even if they did go back to sleep afterwards, don't forget that our two little baby dragons are with them. I'm sure Azar and Alya would have woken them up and demanding food at this hour," she pointed out reasonably.
Raven could not argue with that. He knew better than anyone how the two baby dragons got when they were hungry – well, he knew how Azar was, and since Alya copied whatever Azar did, it was quite reasonable to conclude that the two baby dragons would have definitely awakened their grandparents to demand food.
The guess made by Mana and Raven was not wrong. King Jaren and Queen Dora had indeed been woken up by two little dragons jumping on them enthusiastically in the morning with repeated chants of "Grandpapa! Azar is hungry! Grandmama! Azar is hungry!" from the little black dragon, and similarly repeated chants of "Grandpapa! Alya is hungry! Grandmama! Alya is hungry!" from the little white dragon!
King Jaren had actually stepped out to speak with Queen Carolina and King Corvus in the morning. It was a brief conversation, and the three monarchs of their respective states had decided that they would go to the Amber Kingdom together. It was strategically the best thing for them, and it would be an added protection for the people from the Obsidian Kingdom, because the Emerald Kingdom and Sapphire Kingdom would clearly demonstrate that they had good relations with the Obsidian Kingdom, and the Amber Kingdom would think twice before trying to create unnecessary trouble on that front!
It hardly took King Jaren, Queen Carolina and King Corvus a few minutes to discuss and decide on this course of action. They would stay back in the Sapphire Kingdom for a few days – for exactly as Mana and Raven had thought, there were a couple of things that King Jaren and his family had to do which required travelling, and they decided that they would all set off for the Amber Kingdom three days later. That would give them ample time to finish off their tasks – that is, to get the royal pendant for Alya from the ancestral chamber of the Emerald Kingdom, and to have a chat with the elusive master of Queen Dora and find out if he knew anything about the cursed living ghost corpse and its whereabouts – and how they could protect themselves and their loved ones. The identity of the cursed living ghost corpse was a very sensitive matter, and they needed to be really careful about how the whole thing was handled.
After this brief conversation, King Jaren returned to his bed, and watched the peacefully asleep face of Queen Dora for quite some time. And soon enough, without even realising it himself, King Jaren fell asleep, lulled into sweet dreams by the presence and warmth of his beloved wife he had sorely missed for over a decade now…
And then, King Jaren and Queen Dora had been rudely awakened by the two little baby dragons jumping on them continuously like spring dolls!
Fortunately for the two little dragons, both King Jaren and Queen Dora were rather good tempered people and extremely indulgent grandparents when faced with the two adorable little creatures. Otherwise they would have gotten a scolding instead of the yummy fruits from the secret garden that they were munching on now!
"The two little ones love the peaches from your favourite tree," King Jaren told Queen Dora, expertly peeling and cutting the fruits into small slices for the baby dragons to eat.
Queen Dora was quite amused by his almost involuntary actions – it seemed that King Jaren had become so used to peeling and slicing fruits for the baby dragons that it had become an automatic thing for him by now!
She smiled at King Jaren. "You have taken great care of the secret space in my absence," she said. "Thank you."
King Jaren shook his head. "The secret space shrunk to half its size when you – when you left," King Jaren said quietly. "And the peach tree never bloomed even once for over ten years. It was only after Azar came into our lives, and Mana and Jules came back to the imperial palace of the Emerald Kingdom safe and sound and claimed their rightful positions as members of the royal family of the Emerald Kingdom that the peach blossoms bloomed we had some fruits…"
"Grandpapa's peaches are the best!" Azar supplied helpfully.
Alya wouldn't be left behind, naturally. She repeated sweetly, "Grandpapa's peaches are the best!"
King Jaren chuckled and rubbed the small heads of the two little dragons, who were happily eating away.
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," King Jaren called.
"Mommy and Daddy are here!" Azar said happily, even before Mana and Raven entered the room.
Mana and Raven saw the two little dragons eating fruits happily and King Jaren peeling and slicing fruits for them and burst out laughing.
"We thought this might happen," Mana said to her parents. "Good morning, Papa and Ma," she greeted.
Raven greeted them as well.
King Jaren and Queen Dora also greeted them with bright smiles.
"So, what brings you two here so early?" King Jaren asked curiously. After all, Mana was the laziest of them all, and hated waking up early in the morning. The amount of cajoling and bribing and the mandatory preparation of coffee milkshake for Her Highness Princess Mana of the Emerald Kingdom that poor Raven had to do every morning when they had a morning exercise or training session with General Aquila was quite well known to all of them. And today there was no morning exercise session – so that begged the question, how come little Mana was up and about so early?
Mana could clearly see King Jaren's thoughts and rolled her eyes.
