Xiu Jin was furious. He even felt a bit of grievance in his rage.
He was angry at the game’s notification; he still thought that this game was secretly against him.
What he was aggrieved about was that—— the dad very considerately helped his daughter sew her favourite teddy bear up, yet why didn’t she appreciate his gesture?
“Why is it -50?” Xiu Jin raged at the game. Of course, he couldn’t blame his child. “Why don’t you dig a reason out! -10 instantly turning into -50 and you still have the cheek to act like you’re dead and not say anything?!”
The system took a long time before squeezing out a sentence: [Do you really not know why it’s -50?]
Xiu Jin: “…”
This system is scolding him, right? Huh? It’s scolding him right!
The most loved prince in the Empire’s imperial clan, the seventh prince, having a high status, he had been bathing in a honey pot since birth and no one had ever dared to scold him. Not even the emperor could bear to scold him, yet now he was being scolded by some system?!
Xiu Jin wanted to continue arguing with the system, however, he noticed a speaker icon popping up above to Bian Bian’s head and so couldn’t bother talking to the system anymore. Tapping on the icon to open it, his precious daughter’s soft voice rang out, “Grey Grey, I feel like there’s a person that I can’t see in the house.”
Xiu Jin was shocked, then delighted. He said with pride, “Now that’s my daughter, she is just that clever!”
She knew so quickly that there’s ‘a person’ in the house.
Since baby daughter knows of an invisible person’s existence, in the future, no matter what he did the little fella would decide not be afraid anymore.
Perfect!
The seventh prince was too happy to bother with the system. He was going to brush intimacy points now.
When he managed to brush it to the needed amount, he could then buy for his child all the delicious food.
Precious, wait for daddy to buy food for you and make you white and chubby into the prettiest little princess ever.
The next second, he heard his precious daughter’s trembling voice say, “Will he, will he eat me up?”
Xiu Jin: “…”
Is dad really so scary?!
The little fella only said this sentence and stopped speaking afterwards. She then sat on the bed in a daze with her head lowered. Xiu Jin was unable to see Bian Bian’s small face and didn’t know what his child was thinking at this moment.
What to do.
What could he do to destroy this huge misconception his darling’s got about him!?
The system was probably afraid the Xiu Jin was going to ‘do’ something again, and once again gave a notification: [Bian Bian is currently facing extreme fear. For her wellbeing, please do not do anything.]
——the two words “do not” were even bolded and written in red, extremely eye-catching.
Xiu Jin: “…”
Bian Bian was fiddling with her small hands, trying to calm the fear in her heart.
She had gone through serious consideration before coming up with the conclusion that “there was an invisible existence in the house”.
Bian Bian wasn’t a newborn who knew nothing. A five-year-old child already had their unique thought pattern, not to mention Bian Bian had always been very clever.
That invisible person caught her when she fell, and then gave her a large apple. He didn’t let her go and meet grandpa, and now he’d even sewn Grey Grey’s arm together.
Bian Bian was feeling very afraid.
She felt that the invisible person was in the house watching her.
Bian Bian remembered, once, grandpa and she met a strange fat uncle on the road. He held a yummy candy to give to Bian Bian and even wanted to hug Bian Bian but was chased (beaten) away by grandpa.
Grandpa said that that person wasn’t a good person. Some baddies liked to catch children and eat them, and that fat uncle was once of those baddies who specialised in catching children and eating them.
Him a candy to her and being nice to her was to cheat her trust.
And so Bian Bian kept in her mind that, no stranger would be nice to another person for no reason. If a person was suddenly nice to her, they had other intentions.
Thus, after putting all these together in her heart, Bian Bian came out with a conclusion—— the invisible person wanted to eat her.
She didn’t dare to raise her head, neither did she dare to speak. She just silently stared at her hand, thinking, if she was eaten, then no one would be able to send food to grandpa. Grandpa would starve.
What could she do to let that person not eat her?
Bian Bian carefully gave her hand a pinch. She suddenly understood why that person would give her a big apple and even not allow her to give the apple peel to grandpa.
She was too skinny; he wanted to fatten her up, that way she’d be even more delicious.
Just like the little chick Bian Bian had had before.
It was also because her luck was good. Last year, because of the cold weather, Lu Yu brought Bian Bian southwards and passed by a farm. It was a complete mess in there. There were still some white bones, making it obvious that some scuffles had happened here before.
Originally thinking that they wouldn’t be able to find anything, in the end, because Bian Bian was curious, she wormed into a dog hole and scared Lu Yu into having cold sweat completely drench his back, afraid that something would happen to her. In the end——
When Bian Bian crawled out from the dog hole with her soft and white little face completely dirtied, she brought out a chicken egg from behind her as if presenting a treasure, saying adorably, “Grandpa, an egg.”
Lu Yu managed to gleam a trace of life from this egg. Afterwards, under Bian Bian’s careful protection, the egg hatched. In reality however, it hatched because Lu Yu secretly used his mener to help the egg.
Lu Yu carefully protected his granddaughter’s childhood and tried to let her have a pure childhood. However, he would still teach her basic survival knowledge as she grew.
For example, that chickens were domesticated fowls and were the food of humans.
That’s why they could eat the chicken when it grew up.
After the chicken grew up, Lu Yu made half of it into soup and made braised chicken with the other half. The two ate it very happily.
Grandpa had also said that the reason chicken meat was so delicious was because they usually fed it well, fed it fat…
*
Bian Bian hugged the little bear again. After grandpa left, Grey Grey was her only friend. No matter if Grey Grey’s paw was sew very uglily by the person.
After hugging Grey Grey, Bian Bian wasn’t as afraid anymore.
During those days that grandpa wasn’t here, she was very scared in the beginning, but slowly got used to it.
Her little brain operated swiftly—— that person wanted to raise her into a fatty before eating her, so he wouldn’t eat her now.
She could figure out a way to escape.
Following beside grandpa, Bian Bian experienced many an escape before.
Grandpa said that running away was not an embarrassment, they were being responsible for their own life.
Of course, these knowledge were too deep, Bian Bian didn’t truly understand their meaning. However, she instinctively understood the meaning of ‘escape’.
B class meners were very strong during the start of the apocalypse. However, afterwards when meners were everywhere in the world, B class was no longer that strong, not to mention Lu Yu was an elderly mener.
His physical capabilities limited how strong his mener could get.
Plus with Bian Bian with him, he would usually never chose to fight, and instead bringing Bian Bian with him as they ran was the usual.

As the last ray of sunlight disappeared, the room darkened too. Just as Xiu Jin, who had been silently watching his daughter was still trying to figure out why she wasn’t turning on the lights, the little girl sitting on the bed moved.
She got off the bed and walked to her bedside table, picking up a small lotus flower-shaped bowl with a thin needle in the middle of it. Xiu Jin couldn’t figure out what this thing was for.
Until Bian Bian pulled out a paper box from under her bed that was filled with candles. He then finally reacted; the little lotus bowl was a candleholder.
Bian Bian took out a candlestick and pushed it hard down onto the candleholder then used a lighter to light it up. She then placed it on her bedside table, all her movements so smooth and practised that it made Xiu Jin’s eyes sour.
“…”
This place doesn’t even have electricity! Stupid game, abusing my daughter!
Next, she drew all the curtains in the house shut.
—— the curtains had all been changed by Lu Yu. They were now a layer of metal plates and could be moved with a switch. When the curtains were down, not a single glimpse of the lights in the house could be seen from outside.
The machine was slightly laggy and needed to be started a few more times. Lu Yu didn’t have much time left back then and didn’t manage to refine it, that’s why Bian Bian needed to pull on it a few more times to start it up.
Xiu Jin’s hands were itching to just help his precious daughter pull the curtains shut, but at the thought of the system’s warning as well as the shiny -50 floating on the top right corner, he knew that keeping still was the best thing to do right now.
It was dark outside, he couldn’t continue scaring his darling daughter.
Hold it.
He had to hold it.
Finally, Bian Bian managed to shut all the curtains. There was only a burning candle in the house giving off a small glow, dimly lighting the house.
It was completely silent.
Bian Bian was already used to this kind of dim lighting and silence.
Except there was that invisible person.
She had been carrying the little bear while she was doing those tasks—— Grey Grey gave her courage.
It’s okay, she’d cheer herself on.
With Grey Grey here, she wasn’t afraid.
Bian Bian held the candle as she went into the bathroom and carefully placed it on a rack to the right, then placed the bear on there too. Stepping on a stool, she borrowed the light from the candle to start washing her face and brushing her teeth.
Even if there was an invisible baddie who wanted to eat her, she couldn’t not wash her face because of that.
Bian Bian had already naturally changed ‘that invisible person’ into ‘invisible baddie’.
As she was washing, Bian Bian suddenly stopped moving, her little face sinking into deep contemplation.
If she made herself get dirty and smelly, will the baddie abandon her because of that, and thus not eat her?
But…
The little girl who had been thought to love cleanliness since young by Lu Yu bit her fingers undecidedly. In the end, she followed her heart and still washed herself clean.
Cause she suddenly remembered that, if the baddie wanted to eat her up, why would he care whether she was dirty or not?
Wasn’t the chick they had dirty too in the beginning. She and grandpa still ate it afterwards.
Thus, she couldn’t make herself smelly.
After washing up, Bian Bian finally carried the little bear and the candleholder back into her bedroom and put the candle holder onto the bedside table. Hesitating for a bit, she didn’t blow it out in the end.
In the past, to save candles, Bian Bian only had the candlelit the entire night for the first few nights after grandpa left. After she got used to it, she started to blow the candle out before sleeping.
That way, she could save candles.
But tonight…
Bian Bian tightened her hold on her little bear’s paws, not blowing the candle out. She wriggled into the blankets, even burying her head inside.
Bian Bian was plotting in her mind. She would first run to the supermarket she went to earlier during the day. The baddie would leave after not being able to find her.
When he leaves, she would then return home. This time she would remember to lock the door properly and not let the baddie come in.
Just now, Bian Bian had been thinking that it was the moment she had gone out to search for food that had allowed the baddie to secretly follow her in.
Amid annoyance, worry, fear, as well as various other complicated intertwining emotions, the sleepiness that children naturally had finally overwhelmed Bian Bian. She fell asleep in uneasiness.
*
Seeing that his precious daughter had fallen asleep, Xiu Jin started reflecting.
Bian Bian was still a child and children were different from adults. Adults could very quickly differentiate the difference between good and bad, but children could not.
Thus, not only would his actions make Bian Bian happy, instead it would make her feel no sense of security, thus causing her to feel fear and misunderstand the meaning behind his actions.
He had to change a method,
He had to first let his darling daughter know that he wouldn’t eat her!
Thinking, Xiu Jin suddenly had a spark on inspiration and started searching the room for some paper and pen. In this search, he managed to find a colour pencil in the corner.
But he didn’t find any paper.
Xiu Jin: “…”
He wanted to walk towards the living room, but just as he walked to the doorway, he was blocked by an invisible medium.
——Xiu Jin could only interact with the things around Bian Bian.
For example, Bian Bian was in the bedroom, so he could only interact with the things in her bedroom and was unable to enter the living room. Vice versa, when Bian Bian was in the living room, he would then only be able to touch the living room and was unable to go to other places like the bedroom.
Though even if he was able to touch things, however, it would still feel as if he was wearing a thick pair of gloves, unable to glean any sense of reality.
That was why he sewed the little bear up so uglily.
———The seventh prince refused to admit that his craftsmanship was bad.
This was still much thanks to this set of holographic projector his third royal highness had; anything could appear and be projected out by it, and this was no ordinary projection, instead it was a hologram that one could enter.
It was with this equipment that he was able to search in his daughter’s room, otherwise, if he just relied on the ly-set, he was going to only be able to use his finger to do some simple actions.
Alright then, never mind if there was no paper.
Xiu Jin glanced at the white wall. He’s got to be at least able to write on the wall right.
Just as he was ready to write ‘Bian Bian, I’m your father’, the tip of his pencil froze. He felt that this method wasn’t that good because when the little fella woke up tomorrow, there was still the possibility of her getting a fright.
He didn’t want to see a notification showing how many points he lost again!
“Bian Bian my little darling, I’m called Xiu Jin, I won’t eat you. This is me, can I be friends with you?”
After using a child’s tone to write these words, Xiu Jin next began drawing a picture of himself on the wall. After drawing for ten minutes, he didn’t feel too satisfied, and so spent another ten plus minutes fixing it. He took half an hour to finally finish the drawing.
Xiu Jin carefully examined it, then glanced at the pencil in disdain. This pencil was off too low quality and could barely draw out 50% of his beauty.
With an introduction as well as a portrait of him, his precious daughter shouldn’t be frightened when she woke upright.
Just as the thought flashed past his mind, the system’s notification popped up:
[Bian Bian cannot read.]
Xiu Jin: …
Xiu Jin: ………
Xiu Jin: ……………
