[Smugglers camp] [4 Hours later]

Around fifty superhumans were scanning the surroundings for clues about what happened in that area. Two helicopters and a couple of drones were buzzing over the mountain range. Windywillo town was in an uproar since no one was allowed to leave. The authorities have closed off all routes to the mountain region without a proper explanation.

A woman in her 40s in a black suit was standing in the middle of the smugglers' camp. Brunette curly hair, milky white skin tone, cuts, and bruises on her hands. She was tightly grabbing her katana, and her vibrant, blue eyes were scanning every corner of that site. Her expression says she was looking for something specific, a clue, or any little trace that would explain the present situation.

Around her, there were dried-up, mutilated dead bodies of sixteen smugglers. Out of the sixteen dead bodies, five dead bodies were lying on the ground, three dead bodies were completely broken like dried twigs, and their bones were scattered all around the camp while the rest of them were scattered around the forest.

"Mam Nicole. Our search team discovered fifteen dead animal carcasses, six mutated white-horned tigers, and eight dried corpses... But nothing other than that. Whoever they were, they were pros," A young man in his 20s came running up to that woman in the black suit and gave his report. He handed a transparent tablet to her.

"They? No... Not they... This is the job of a single person. These bastards died before they could use their powers... You still have a long way to go, trainee Karl," Nicole said after reading the reports and re-examining the images of the dead bodies.

"But... But that's impossible. They were all cold-blooded killers, and that's not all... All of them were around lv 70, and you are telling me they all died without a fight..." Karl replied with a stutter, unable to believe his superior's words.

"The ones inside the camp died in a flash. They probably didn't have the chance to resist or fight back. The others tried to escape, but the killer hunted them one by one like a predator..."

Nicole explained with a calm expression.

"Why don't you check those guns?" Nicole pointed her finger toward the rifles lying on the ground. Karl rushed over to check them.

Karl took a rifle. He opened the ammo clip and was stunned to see that it was full. He quickly checked the barrel, but there was no trace of gunpowder. He threw the gun and checked the other weapons, but the result was the same. The smugglers didn't have the chance to use their weapons.

"Mom!" Karl looked back at Nicole. There was a glint of fear in his eyes, "Then... The one who killed them is above lv 90?" His eyes widened.

A level 90 superhuman is a rare sight to see because they are the major powerhouse that doesn't move or create chaos without a proper reason. Thus, no one in their wildest dream would dare to meddle in their business unless they are looking for a quick death. So, fear is a genuine reaction from a young man like Karl. He doesn't want his mother to get into any trouble because of this.

"Haaa. How many times did I tell you not to call me mom during duty hours?" Nicole said with a sigh. She continued, "Anyway, gather the bodies and send them to the lab. They might give us a clue... Meanwhile, I will head to the town. Someone must have heard or seen something. Oh! And I am cutting you out of this investigation... Go home..."

Nicole kicked the ground behind her and flew into the sky like a rocket. She disappeared into the sky with a burst of blue aura.

Nicole thought that if it really was lv 90 powerhouse, then it would put her son's life in danger, and no mother would want their only child to get killed because of her decision. So, she removed Karl from the team and decided to head for the town.

Generally, Nicole wouldn't have pursued the case further since the ones who died were criminals, and the ones who killed them did a good job. But she had to pursue that person because it was her second time seeing a case with dried-up dead bodies.

The first case's victim was her husband. At that time, she was pregnant and couldn't chase the killer, and the investigation was closed before it even began due to the lack of solid clues. So, it was personal to her. After 20 years, she finally got a clue, a chance to unearth the truth.

...

...

Meanwhile, Lucas went home after avoiding everyone's eyes. He had regained most of his memories after regaining his sanity. Some of those memories were hazy. It must be because of the aging body. Anyway, he got a pretty good grasp of his situation and the real owner of his new body.

Luckily, being a vampire has its own perks. He used his vampiric charm on the maid and ordered her to take a day off. Then, he took a warm bath and ate some food. After resting a bit, he opened his status window.

Lucas closed the status window. There was nothing unusual in his stats except for the attributes capped limit. But, it was not a problem for him since his attribute limits are far greater than a mere 1000 points.

Lucas suddenly remembered that Alex used to keep a personal diary in the little library beside his bedroom, but that part of the memory was hazy. He couldn't remember anything about its contents.

He went to the kitchen and made an instant coffee. Then, made his way to the library.

While drinking a cup of coffee, Lucas was reading Alex's personal diary. Nothing was interesting in it. The diary was filled with small fantasy stories. He closed it and threw it on the table with a sigh. Lucas had hoped for something personal but never imagined that the diary would be filled with children's stories.

Dejected, Lucas threw the diary on the table.

"Huh?" Lucas stood up. He heard a clicking sound when the diary fell on the table. He bent down and took a look. There was a small wooden safe box under that table.

Lucas pulled it out and opened the box. Inside, there was a bunch of old newspapers.

"Newspapers in a hidden box?! Let's see..." Lucas mumbled to himself while examining the newspapers.

[1 hour later]

"Hahahaha!!!"

Lucas was laughing like a madman. He was clenching a piece of newspaper, "Finally, after all these eternities of struggles..." He opened the paper and continued to laugh.

...

The world Lucas is in is called Aldean. 1000000 years ago, mana and aura awakened into this world, changing everyones' lives for better or for worse. However, 50 years ago, the world changed once again. New uncharted lands and waterbodies started to appear all over the world. People called this phenomenon Cosmic Shift.

The planet Aldean expanded ten times its original size. However, it didn't interfere much with daily life. But there was a rumor in the air. Somewhere within those uncharted waters lies a hidden underwater island that comes above the water line with sunrise, goes underwater with the dawn and changes its position with every passing day.

A group of superhumans followed that rumor and found that island. They successfully raided that island. Luckily due to technological advancement, the raid was live. They discovered an artifact within a tomb. On that tomb, some ancient words were written. But before the superhumans could get out of there, the connection was cut off, and they went MIA.

Twenty years later, humans deciphered those ancient writings.

<Clense your soul of darkness>

<Step into the holy river>

<Pass the trial of Immortals and earn glorious death as a reward>

<Only through your death will your race gain the blessing of Yggdrasil and reach the final stage of evolution>

<Sacrifice yourself for a noble cause>

<Hail to our Immortal King Del'ser Xerfergs for your noble sacrifice>

...

Lucas finally found a way to break free of his curse and die.
