“Well you have my attention…As well as everyone else in the square.” The crowds of people in the market square were already spreading their whispers. The girl maintained her grin. “I think you are the reason for their attention…”

“Well true but you aren’t exactly helping. Of course the town people would stare when a brigand tries to rob someone in broad daylight….” I increased the strength of my grip on her arm. “So tell me, just what are you trying to do?”

“A brigand? I am more suited to the roguish lifestyle, but I won’t deny that they become intertwined. Hard to pick out the thorns from the rose bush… Ah, but I was simply mesmerized by your beauty! I had to come intrude on your day. Please forgive me…” She winked at me. The combination of the sun and the voices that were grating on my ears must have been sparking dangerous thoughts. A part of me thought to lob her head off right here.

“Your time is best spent on honing your craft. What sort of rogue will draw this much attention to themselves? Not to mention by pretending to sleep in the guild, you painted a crosshair on yourself.” She raised an eyebrow.

“Crosshair? And aren’t you one to talk? Half the town is talking about a runaway noble right now. If you want, I can of course give you the comfort and safety of my room. The ‘brigands’ wouldn’t be able to reach you.” This woman was very confident for a less than mediocre rogue. I was about to open my mouth to deny her offer, but she suddenly piqued my curiosity.

“You want some information don’t you, master Eliah? Well I can provide some very… unique information.” She whispered those sweet words, and this time I raised an eyebrow. “Hoh, what makes you think you can satisfy my curiosity?”

“I am certain of it! And the only price is having you stay in my room with me! I am sure I could satisfy your curiosity in many other ways too…” My eye started twitching; however, I maintained my poise. This was actually perfect for me. I would get a free room, and I could possibly gain new information. I smirked before finally releasing her arm. “Very well, lead away…”

We arrived at the inn that was only a block away from the guild. As we opened the swinging wooden doors, I made out the interior. The place wasn’t anything special. There was a desk in the back and off to the right was a swinging wooden door for a kitchen. The stairs were off to the left, and the rest of the room had five tables which currently held about seven people in total. There was a bell on the desk, but it wasn’t currently needed as the proprietor was manning it. He was quite the large individual. Through his white apron were bulging muscles. This guy could have been part of the world’s strongest man competition on Earth.

“Don’t worry, master Eliah! Even though he looks like that, he is a great guy!” The woman, who I had just realized I hadn’t gotten her name yet, spoke with a teasing voice as we walked to the desk. “Say mister, you don’t mind if this cutie stays with me here do you?” Her intonation was annoying me, but she did have a unique charm about her. I could tell that all this girl ever did was put on airs, which I could relate to as that is what I had been doing this whole time.

“I won’t really mind it, so long as you two aren’t raising a ruckus. Won’t even ask where you found the lass, so just go have fun. Just don’t raise a bother for me please. Haah, and I recommend you change your clothes girlie…” I could see what he was saying. I was already standing out a bunch, but this was necessary. You must be bold in your approach. If I hadn’t ever been bold I wouldn’t have been the strongest progenitor in the game. “Keep your comments on my being to yourself, thank you.”

“Haah, I smell trouble…” He whispered just as the rogue pulled me away. We made our way up the stairs and into her room. The room was quite small with only a singular twin sized bed. There was a small desk with a lamp and a singular dull wooden wardrobe in the corner. This place was way duller than locations had been in the game. Maybe it is just this fort? My attention was brought to the rogue as she started speaking.

“You know, you could learn a thing or two about subtlety. You are wearing everything on your sleeve.” I raised an eyebrow at that. Sure my jig was caught by the captain of the gate guard, but most people seemed to buy the noble part. Though they seemed to suspect me of being a runaway most likely.

“Then again… I have never known what goes on in that amazing head of yours.” She spoke as though she was intimate with me. As she walked in close, she whispered in my ear. “I know your little secret, master Eliah…”

I could no longer maintain composure. As I locked eyes with her, I undid my disguise. My eyes glowed with power and rage as I focused on hers. Control. That was what I needed. I needed to control the situation. I needed to be in charge. If my control slipped away from me, I would be in danger again. Once again I used the [Vampire’s Charm]. “That’s what you get for being cheeky…”

Much to my chagrin she stood there with her same shit eating grin. “Master, I can’t believe you of all people would forget. That won’t work on one of your own…” One of my own? What was she on about? Before I could say anything a wall of blood cut her off from me. I backed up and readied my shadow just in case, but when the wall of blood dropped, what stood there was completely unexpected.

Standing before me was someone I had never expected to see ever again. Her face was cleared of the scar, and all the blemishes to her skin had vanished. Her eyes reflected a deep dark purple. The long hair on top of her head became a midnight blue. Fangs poked out of her mouth. Her clothing had become an expensive looking black and white maid dress cut off at above her knees. The outfit exuded a familiar power. I had seen her like this many times behind the monitor, but the Rela standing before had never before looked this beautiful.

I was beyond surprised as my mouth flopped open. This should have been impossible. Not only had I already discovered this place was different from the game. The Rela in the game had died right in front of me even before I was able to die. That is right! This girl is nothing more than an “Imposter!”

A hatred so deep welled up inside of me. Someone was playing tricks on me and using the faces of the NPC’s that I had personally spent time on. All of their outfits. Their entire levels. All of it. So much time was spared building something fantastical and now it was being mocked. I felt the fury inside of me rising even as she kneeled down.

“If it will quell your anger, you can do anything you want to me, master; however, please listen to me first.” The empowering aura surrounding me was fueling my rage, and the fact that this couldn’t be reality. A reality like this was blatantly a rip off. Somehow through all of the anger I felt in this short stent, I was able to come back down to reality. I closed my eyes and breathed deliberately until I felt calm and in control. “Well… Speak.”

“Yes, master.” She didn’t lift her head to look at me even as she continued. “I am just as confused as you are, master. I spent so much time in a daze, and I didn’t know what was going on. I suddenly felt something I hadn’t felt in forever a few days ago, and I followed the feeling on impulse. I didn’t believe it at first, but I knew that something had to be you. When I saw you I felt like I was hallucinating. I wanted to confirm your existence at least one last time. The only way to do that was to try and get you to use the charm, but now I know… I can die happy…” Tears started to flow from her eyes. I knew this wasn’t an act, and if it had been, then this woman would win 50 oscars. I also felt something from her. Like some sort of connection.

She wept and as her tears wet the floor, I broke character. Seeing my own NPC I had spent all that time with breaking down didn’t sit right with me. She had likely wanted me to kill her. Why else would she try and provoke me? So I broke character, I reached down and hugged her. She flinched in surprise, but she leaned into my embrace as she continued to sob into my chest. “So many things have confused me since coming here, but I know you are real. Your master is here, and I won’t be leaving again… Thank you, Rela.”
