The place we were summoned too grew silent as the words left the old man’s mouth. I wasn’t sure why no one was speaking. Did they even know the implication of his statement? Eliah the immortal was a character in a video game. Most of the people in this room probably never even played the game. I bet a lot of them were shocked by hearing that there was an immortal being, but I was just confused by everything.
The first thing I wondered was if this was the same place as the game world. If it was the same place, would Eliah be the player? Maybe this is a different world, and Eliah here is someone completely different. I had a strange premonition that this was the same Eliah I idolized. I just wanted it to be true more than anything. I raised my hand like I would do in class, somehow the priestly man knew how to respond to the gesture. “What is it, hero?” I felt revulsion at being called a hero, but I didn’t let it show on my face. Who knew what these people were capable of?
“Is this ‘Eliah the Immortal’ a vampire progenitor?” I just had to know. “Yes, that would be the case.” He looked at me like I was a strange person. “But how do you know that?”
“In my world there was a game, and there was a character who went by the same name. She was also the same race, so I had to know if this person was the same being.”
“I see, you must have had a premonition from the gods! You are a lovely spirit. Come with me for a second.” Oh no, I should have just kept my freaking mouth shut, now I am going to have to follow this weird priest if I don’t say anything. “I don’t think it was a premonition from the gods. It was simply a game that was unique to my world.”
“Come on, don't be shy. The church will need to learn of your experience. It could mean life or death when dealing with her.” I looked at my classmates and they all had a face that said to just go with him and not be a pain. The teacher spoke up in my defense. “You can’t simply do as you wish to her! She clearly does not want to go with you!”
“And what is your position in relation to the heroes? You seem to hold a position of power over them.” My teacher shook her head at the words. “I am their teacher. I wouldn’t call it a position of power, but I can give them detention if they disobey.” The priest's eyes lit up, and I was beginning to feel creeped out by this man. I wanted nothing more than to just run away, but where would I even run to?
“I see, so that is how it is. Well, you can feel free to join her. She will be a valuable asset to all of you heroes. She might have information that we in the church do not have. I predict that she will become a great saint…”
“Stop all of this nonsense! Other world!? Summoning!? Saints!? Just what the hell are you trying to accomplish by kidnapping us!? And even more so you ask us to kill someone! Has everyone here lost their minds!?” Everyone's favorite delinquent student, Luke, yelled out. “Are we just going to go along with what these creeps say!? Emily, why are you even paying head to anything-”
Before the class delinquent could finish he fell to the ground. “Forgive us, but we cannot have someone speak ill of the church. We did not harm him, we have simply put him to sleep.” The class started to grow restless. Murmuring began to rise from all of them. The priest slammed his staff to the ground silencing all of the murmurs.
“Now, I don’t think I have introduced myself. I am known far and wide as the pope of the church. You may call me Pope Anelis. On my right is the Archbishop Mcdonnel. We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way. As heroes we will treat you with respect, but should you bite the hand that feeds you, we will respond in kind. Emily, was it?”
“Y-yes!” This person was so blatant in his actions, but I was powerless. I could only respond to him. “You will come with me, and we shall have a discussion about the last progenitor. If anyone objects then raise your voices now.”
Silence, the room was locked in dead silence. Not even my teacher spoke up in my defense. The Anelis was now emanating some type of aura that we were all picking up, but I had no idea what it was.
—--------
I followed the priest into a smaller room with 2 couches and a table at the center. There was ready-made tea on the table, and Anelis took a seat on one of the couches before urging me to sit. I awkwardly took a seat in front of him. “Please, help yourself to some tea.” I noticed a maid behind him with what looked like animal ears which had been clipped. I couldn’t see a tail behind them either. I anxiously took a sip of the tea that had been offered. It was quite honestly delicious, but everything I saw here made me want to vomit.
“Ah, you noticed the beast behind me? Filthy isn’t she? They do make for good servants though.” With a clap of his hands more beastkin 2 more beastkin maids came into the room with a tray of food and snacks. “Help yourself to anything you see fit.” The food looked delicious, but I started to feel disgusted from the blatant discrimination. “I am sorry. I don’t feel like eating.”
“You do not need to pity the beasts. They did it to themselves, and their lives are better for it. We captured them and made them into servants instead of the cowardly beasts they were before, but that is a story for later. For now, you will tell me what you know about Eliah the Immortal.”
