Usually Charlie's biological clock was right on point. He got sleepy at 12 o' clock and woke up at around 7. But when he woke up it was already light outside. Which meant it was at least after 8.

He got dressed and brushed his teeth. His ankles didn't hurt anymore. Wait a minute, they never agreed on a time to meet in the splitting room (that's what he decided to call it. He was terrible at naming things.) Had they been waiting for him? How late was it anyway. He rushed down and as he thought, when he walked into the room they were standing there.

"Sorry, did I make you wait?" He asked. "No, we were doing our duties and we detected you coming downstairs so we teleported in just before you entered." Charlie felt relieved. "You did? That's good" he said, "well then, let's start.”

Synthia started with the introductions. "I'm Synthia, I oversee everything.

I make sure your wish gets carried out exactly how you want it to. When it comes to giving orders, gathering information, being updated or even reassembling your entire network of contacts and servants, I'm the only one you should be in contact with. Now I'll introduce the servants whose positions are high enough you might see them around" Synthia and the other servants seemed to be competing over who was more relevant. She pointed to the pink guy. "This is Draex. He is in charge of cooking, maintaining the pets and plants and other chores that don't require magic. But mostly cooking". Draex glared at Synthia who on the other hand looked quite satisfied with herself.

She moved on to the yellow girl with orange stripes. "This is Jole, she is in charge of maintaining structures, cleaning them and stuff." Now Synthia had two people glaring at her. Synthia made it seem like no big deal but Charlie knew Algrion had at least 21 known structures scattered around the world. Keeping them all in a good state seemed like a pretty tough job, then again, all of their jobs seemed pretty tough. Synthia moved to the floating cloaked guy. “This is Thrale, he's in charge of everything that's magic. If a magic spell stopped working, which it never does, Algrion set them up, he's supposed to fix it. Oh he's also in charge of the secret library." "The spells never stop working because I'm good at my job. I'm always at it before you guys notice. And I'm the only one at that, Algrion usually had to notice something was wrong before you guys fixed it." Thrale interjected. "And the secret library is the most important job of them all." Charlie thought Synthia was going to shoot something back but she seemed defeated. Draex and Jole looked satisfied, like they didn't notice he had belittled them too. "So what's the secret library?" Charlie asked. That had peaked Charlie's interest. "In due time." Synthia said. She seemed relieved to change the subject.

After that he was shown around the castle. Synthia insisted on giving interesting facts for each room. First he was taken to the bedroom. Synthia said it was purposely made above the ground so monsters wouldn't try to break in while he was sleeping. "Wouldn't he be able to fend them of?" Charlie asked. "This is the first real home he built. sure, by the time he was known it would've been a breeze for him, but he lived here before that. When he wasn't as strong. Besides, having to wake up because some monsters are busting down your door is pretty annoying." Charlie felt weird. He always felt like Algrion was born a legend. But there really was a time when he was just an adventurer who had trouble with monsters like everyone else. That fact gave him a little hope.

From the bedroom he was taken up to the forge. As expected of a forge there was an anvil, workbench and the like. anything you would expect. Like the bedroom it was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside. there was also equipment generally used for brewing potions and enchanting. "Algrion thought forging, enchanting and brewing were all part of the same category." Synthia said. Seriously, could she read minds?! After that they went to the storage room. Which was above the forge.

The storage room was as messy as the land itself and it was by far the biggest room yet. The walls floor and ceiling were the same as the bedroom. There were chests lined up against the wall and in the middle of the room was a big pile of stuff. He noticed the deed from the ceremony. Damn, that was just two days ago. It felt like an eternity. Synthia interrupted his thoughts with some fun trivia: "This room is (together with the secret library) the biggest room in the castle. It uses magic to upgrade the durability of each item. It doesn't make them indestructible but strong enough that it's okay to store them in such a messy way. Though things that are too precious or dangerous to be broken are kept in the chests. Think of bottled curses or demons, or legendary items."

Synthia walked towards the 3rd chest of the wall left to them. "If you chant the words 'shralgemitz, klartzo munely-" suddenly a perfect rectangle of light formed on the wall, exactly above the chest. The light turned into deep cuts and the rectangle that had split itself from the wall quietly moved a few centimetres backwards. Then with a grinding sound it shoved itself slowly to the left opening up a doorway. The doorway led into a hall, about 10 meters long. "...That happens." Synthia finished her sentence. "It leads to the treasury, the hallway to it is heavily guarded." "The treasury?" Charlie asked "I'd consider what we have in the storage room quite the treasure, what's the difference?" "The storage room only contains your objects. The storage room is relatively easily accessible in case you want to use them. The treasury on the other hand only contains money and items Algrion didn't want anyone to use. The treasury contains 98% of all your money. The items might destroy the world if used, or they are very precious, one of a kind, one time only items. If avoidable, they should not be used.

"What happened to the other 2%?" Charlie asked. The corners on Synthia’s mouth twisted upwards. Charlie figured that she must've been in charge of keeping an eye on the money. She happily started explaining. "0.371% is spread over the vacation houses, 0.792% is stored in a magic pouch that should be carried with you at all times. The other 0.837% is saved at the bank to fool people who want to know how much money you have. They can know you are the richest man in the world but not by how much-" "Hold up!" Charlie interrupted. He was so shocked he couldn't speak straight. "S- so even if I lost e- everything b- but  0.8% o- of my money... I- I'd still be the richest man in in the world?!" "Well technically 0.571% would be enough but yes" Synthia answered calmly. "C- can I have a look?!"

When he caught a glimpse at the ceremony it was only of the amount of numbers, not the actual amount. Besides, numbers could only do so much. Even if he saw a big number, he could never understand it with his imagination alone. "Of course" Synthia said, "You have been given the status of Algrion, you can go wherever you want." He walked inside. The walls didn't only show trees but also eyes that followed him. Even though it was a security measure it creeped him out. He got to the end of the hallway. After his eyes adjusted to the blinding lights he saw a ENORMOUS pile of money! The ceiling was out of sight, and the pile of money seemed infinite too. The rest of the room was about twenty by twenty metres.

Scattered through the pile of light were crystals, wands, balls and other devices that were without a doubt powerful magical artifacts. Compared to this the ceremony seemed like a crappy gathering of the homeless. He really was richer than the guy who owned that castle. Just by looking at this room his head started to spin. “I’ve seen enough” he said. As they walked back through the creepy tunnel he remembered his thought about the gap between him and Algrion maybe not being so big. He laughed at how wrong he had been. After that he was shown around magical sources that could refill themselves instantly, a dazzling trophy room which looked more like a hallway (apparently expanded every time something was added), the map room earlier (including a telescope and ladder in order to properly view the map, the core room with a huge blue spinning crystal floating in the middle supplying the entire building with enough power to sustain a city and then some, and every other room in the building. Until they finally, at the end of the tour, arrived at the one room he hadn’t been able to get out of his mind. The secret library. Had Synthia saved this for last on purpose, to keep his attention until the very end? She really was menacing.

They arrived at two huge doors, made of dark wood with golden markings on it. Charlie stopped to admire the door but Synthia walked ahead without flinching, forcing him to follow. The doors opened themselves (*sigh*, of course) and behind them was Thrale, floating in mid air while either performing a spell on a book, or using the book to do something else with magic. Either way, Charlie’s interest was peaked. He had always been curious about magic but the little knowledge his village possessed was already too complicated for him to understand. “Whatchadoin’?” Charlie asked in a childish tone which he immediately regretted. “Nothing.” Thrale answered. “Oh” Charlie looked at the floor. That wasn’t his first attempt, he had been trying to get Synthia and the others to look at him as a friend using jokes and a more personal manner of speech, but Thrale seemed to hate him and the rest were just being nice to him because it was their job to and maybe out of honor and loyalty to Algrion.

Charlie was looking around. He had been curious as to what kind of books would be in a secret library, but to his disappointment the books were written in a language he couldn’t read, using characters he didn’t know. “You will have to learn the magic tongue before being able to gain knowledge here.” Thrale’s sharp voice cut through his thoughts. Charlie let out a scream. When’d Thrale get next to him! Thrales face showed every thought going through his head. ‘seriously dude?’ gradually turned to a ‘this is the guy i’m supposed to serve?’ “Master Goldharth asked me to give you this.” He said. He still saw Algrion as his master huh? “Give me what?” Charlie asked. Thrale rolled his eyes and pointed to Charlie’s hands. To his surprise Charlie was holding a bottle.

The bottle was of high quality, the bottom was triangular which cut into a circle halfway. the top of the circle gradually turned into the top of the bottle which was pearced with a ring made of glass. Inside was a turquoise liquid the label was written in the same language as the books so he couldn’t read it. The bottle was small, about the size of the palm of his hand.

Algrion’s last deed

(*writers note: Art by @xylolfy find him on Twitter and Instagram!)

“what is it?” Charlie asked. “it’s a potion Algrion brewed himself.” Thrale answered. “It was bestowed the name “Algrion’s last deed”. “oh” Charlie doubted. He wanted to ask what it did but he didn’t want to make more of a fool of himself. Thrale rolled his eyes “it lets Algrion possess you for a minute per mililiter. the bottle contains 20 milliliters so thats twenty minutes”  He had made more of a fool of himself.

Synthia felt that the conversation was over so she approached the two. “you should really go sort your stuff” Charlie was confused. “I thought it didn’t need to be sorted?” he asked. “Thats because Algrion could use special magic to find what he was looking for immediately. You however do not possess such a skill. A situation where you immediately need something is inevitable. How will you find what you are looking for?” Charlie sighed. “Fair point.”

They went upstairs. You’d think going through hundreds of magical items would be awesome, cool, or at the very least interesting. For Charlie it was just especially tedious. “What’s this?” he asked for the millionth time. “A crystal ball, it shows the future” Synthia answered cheerfully. how was she so cheerful? They had been doing this for 3 hours! Thats a professional assistant for ya! “The future?” Charlie asked. A spark of curiosity revived his brain. “It’s cursed” Synthia said “It has been proven that the future is malleable, but when this crystal ball predicts the future it freezes it so that it is bound to happen.” “i don’t see why it’s cursed.” Charlie said. “The curse lies in that this crystal ball always chooses the very worst possibility.” Synthia explained. “Oh…” Charlie said. He felt like he had been picked up from the ground just so he could be kicked down again. Miserably he looked at the ball, cursing at it in his mind. Suddenly the ball showed an image, without thinking he looked at it. “What are you doing?!” Synthia yelled. Charlie woke up from his trance, realizing what he was doing. Shit! What kind of crystal ball is so easy to trigger. Synthia looked pained. “Well no use looking away now” she said.
