Seriousness was spread over Synthia’s face. A glint of fear could be seen in her eyes but only after the thick fog of courage and experience. Charlie took a deep breath. His fear could be seen all over his face, even a blind man wouldn’t have missed it.
He looked into the ball, he saw the compound from above, several buildings were in ruin and the castle was on fire. A swarm of zombies with purple eyes gathered around the castle, and the light of the fire mixed with the roars of zombies filled the night. Holy crap! how many zombies is that?! must be 200! no, 300! Charlie’s heart sunk.
Suddenly something unexpected happened. a group of zombies split from the pack surrounding the main entrance. They bent down and roared in pain as their backs started to bulge. Was someone using magic on them? A pair of rotting wings tore through their back together with some slime. You gotta be kidding me. They flew up and started entering the entrances in the sky meant for flying in and out of the castle. The vision turned black.
“Well?! What did you see?!” Synthia was at the tip of her seat, she couldn’t take it anymore. When she joined Algrion he had enough fame to discourage anyone from attacking him so she was used to starting the fight, deciding when they’s face the danger. Now the danger was coming to them! She became Algrion’s assistant because she was a control freak, but this situation was out of her control.
Charlie described the vision to Synthia as best as he could. Synthia’s face turned pale and she summoned Thrale, Dreax and Jole. The others had already left to go home. Dreax had shown them to some horses that could be teleported home with the push of a button. Charlie described the vision again. He probably should have just summoned Thrale, Dreax and Jole first and then explained it. Shut up, now’s not the time to think about that!
Thrale floated over to inspect the crystal ball. “When will this take place?” Jole asked. Unlike the others she seemed curious rather than concerned. She had a raspy voice, and she always seemed very cheerful. Her personality was very childlike and energetic. “Tonight.” Thrale answered. “I inspected the crystal ball and found the vision, I was able to determine the time.” “Alright let’s prepare then” Synthia said. She was about to lay out a whole plan but Thrale interjected: “There’s something else. These zombies are being controlled by someone.”
Synthia contemplated for a while. “you’re right. With the glowing eyes and the rapid evolution, I thought there might be a zombie king nearby. But given the situation…” She looked at charlie, and continued “it’s much more likely someone is controlling them to get to you.” Dreax joined the conversation. “Whoever it is must be very powerful to control that many zombies!” “Yeah, it’s likely nobility or the like.” Synthia said.
Suddenly, a thought appeared in Charlie’s head. “Wasn’t my cousin Taria a necromancer?” Charlie thought out loud. “Thats… a pretty specific guess” Synthia said. She then realized she was supposed to be his servant. “Let’s check her first, after this is all over”. Did she realize she was still taking charge?
Synthia gave out different orders. Jole was busy fireproofing the castle while Dreax was relocating the animals to a different castle. Thrale used a powerful spell to seal the secret library and the treasure room and Synthia helped Charlie put on his gear. Well, helping? She just put it on him while he was standing there, holding his arms in a T-formation. Putting it on took at least 20 minutes, in which Synthia tried to explain all it’s functions. Charlie wanted to ask why it took so long to put on the armor, but he immediately realized it was probably the same reason as why he should organise his stuff; there was a spell that could do it in an instant, and he didn’t know it.
The armor looked like it was made of a black stone, but when Synthia had put it on him it had sounded more like metal. The armor had ripples, probably for show. and a purple light glowed from in between the ripples. It was much heavier than Charlie knew he could carry but because of an enchantment he was okay. There were multiple tools attached including a glowing spear, a bow without any arrows and a bunch of different potions Charlie didn’t have the courage to try.
Synthia touched her temple. “Everyone is done with their jobs” she said. They met up with Thrale, Dreax and jole in the splitting room. “What’s the plan?” Dreax asked immediately. The room fell silent, Synthia stammered “I- I don’t know, Algrion was usually the one to come up with a plan…”
Charlie felt the bottle he’d gotten from Algrion get heavier and heavier. He’d know how to get out of this mess. Should he drink the potion? What if he needed it later? Can i really not figure something out on my own? Is that last question idiotic? These questions were all stopped by the two words: “fuck it.” He took out the small bottle that started glowing on the spot like it knew it was going to be used. Without thinking Charlie chugged the potion down. Everyone stared at him in shock.
