The City I

After finding, and learning the human transformation spell, I headed to the nearest town, which just happened to be the capital of this kingdom. I couldn’t just waltz into the capital without an identification, of course. So I ended up teleporting in from the outside. To avoid the eyes of the public, I teleported into an alleyway. Though, it seems this alleyway is some sort of hangout for delinquents and criminals, as a human group strode towards me, spouting all kinds of profanity from the forest elves' tounge. “You there! What chu’ doin in my turf? Huh, old man?” The young man yelled, switching his language back to Au’i, the most common language on the continent of Aurn. I pointed at myself, as I couldn’t tell if they were talking to me or not, though I think he was, as he switched languages, assuming I couldn’t understand the forest elve’s tongue; Eln, although I can.

He screamed at me, spit flying in my face; “Yes you! Who’d you think you are senile old man?!” I sighed, as his profane words, and offal grammar was getting to me. “Excuse me, young man, I can’t seem to understand you. Do you mind speaking intelligibly?” I smiled looking at the young man, who was dumbfounded because he was just insulted by me. Seriously, I really thought the capital of the Elven Forest, Ecluia would be quieter and more peaceful, but alas, there is always chaos found within the most peaceful places. “Who do you think you're messing with huh old man? I am Rein, the leader of the Emissaries of Death!” He screamed, smiling expecting me to be afraid.

Seriously? Emissaries of Death? It’s like a name that small children would come up with in a make-believe game about heroes and a villainous group. His acquaintances smacked their fists into their palms, trying to scare me. “Tell me something, can you show me what is truly terrifying?” They scrunched their faces in confusion. “I am confident that I can show you what is truly terrifying, if I succeed will you leave me alone?”

The leader, Rein, or whatever his name is, laughed, “Alright old man, let's see what you can do!” I smiled as suddenly my skin and flesh slowly peeled away, turning to ash as it fell off, revealing my Lich form, exerting my mana pressure towards them. Their faces had drastically changed from their usual cocky faces to a more amusing faces, one that is contorted in fear; a fear that runs up the spine sending them into complete panic. Aaah, I really enjoyed seeing those looks on their faces. “IS THIS GOOD ENOUGH?”  I said, in a chilling tone, then turned back into a human as they ran away, tails between their legs like the sad mutts they are; ones without true purpose, true meaning…

Food is something all living things need of course, but after I became a Lich I lost all need for food, though it still intrigues me I am unable to eat it. I must find the art shop, before the crowds of people, and smells of delicious food drive me insane. I wandered around looking for the shop, then noticed something odd. It was a young elven woman with long, blond hair, around 96 I’d say, of course, elves can live for quite some time, several centuries even, so she is considered young. She wore a concerned expression, as she stared at the ground. A man such as myself must come to the rescue, maybe she also could point me towards an art shop.

I walked up behind her, asking if she was ok. She seemed quite surprised, as I had unconsciously snuck up on her. Ohoho! I must be reducing my presence too much. She responded, saying she was fine. Hmm, no, she definitely was still bothered. I asked her to point me in the direction of the art store, which she did. “Excuse me, why don’t you accompany me to see the art? Art calms the soul.” I asked, smiling. She looked surprised at first, pondered for a moment, then nodded. As we headed in that direction, talking here and there I noticed something. I think it may be after becoming a Lich, but I sense a very holy aura surrounding her. She may be some sort of holy magic user, a Church member even, as her mana had a strong sense of  Holy Magic and Light Magic.

Ah, it seems I was able to calm her down, for the moment at least, as she mentioned something quite peculiar to me as we got to the art store. “Ah, yes, I must warn you to be careful sir, as there have been sightings of an evil being, an undead that is stronger than normal.” I smirked as she said that, as I realized that that “Evil Being” may be me, how interesting.. “Ah thank you miss, I will do that, now let us gaze at the wonderful art this store holds!” I said excitedly since I hadn’t been able to gaze at any art since my transformation, though it seems she was a bit weirded out by my enthusiasm, how sad; the people nowadays don't seem to be as enthusiastic about art…

She followed behind me, as I gawked at all of the wondrous art this store held. Paintings of beautiful forests, using all kinds of greens, yellows, and browns. The elven art style is extremely beautiful, I thought, then strolled over to the purchasable art section, wanting to buy a few paintings. I had brought my Gil from my human life, in which I was quite a wealthy man. “So you are going to buy those?” She had asked as she followed behind me, the art not interesting her as much, unlike me. “Yes, I don't have any elven pieces, so I came here to purchase some.

I ended up purchasing 4 paintings, 2 of them were paintings of lush forests, another one was of a water spirit at the edge of a beautiful, rushing waterfall, and the last one was a bright, large moon that shone in a starry night sky. It simply captivated me, I was caught in a trance when I saw it. Of course, she looked at me weirdly but the poor girl just does not understand art, so I cannot blame her. To me art is an extension of life, for it is made by life, which makes it oh so much more special. It can be a moment, eternally frozen, or an imaginative place that such special life had thought up within their own consciousness. It is truly a blessing.

We had walked into an oddly empty area of town, completely unaware of our surroundings, as I tried to give her a better understanding of art. I can’t let someone leave this life without understanding the beauty of art. Though I was in quite a predicament, as she insisted on helping me take the art to my home, which she assumed was in this city. “Ah, I forgot, I shall store this now. Thank you for helping me carry this.” I took all the art and stored it away using an 8th rank spell, [Spatial Storage], a space-type magic that creates an empty dimensional space allowing you to store infinite amounts of items. She gawked at me as I used it, which I had forgotten about Space being such a rare magic type.

“Ah, I can see where you may think I am a powerful mage, but I assure you I am not, I am simply a researcher and connoisseur of art. I trained just to learn this spell, as it would be quite useful to me.” I explained carefully. “A-ah I see..” She said, still slightly suspicious. Suddenly I felt a large number of people approaching us, around twenty-three, all with vicious killing intent. The miss looked around, as she sensed them as well, “Sir, I advise you to stay close, we are being surrounded.” The miss said, switching to a fighting stance. I played along, nodding as I stood closer. I then heard a familiar, vulgar voice, spitting profanities directed toward us. We had been surrounded by the Emissaries of Death, a name I can’t help but laugh at when I hear it.

Seriously, I thought I scared them off, but I guess they must all have some sort of short-term memory loss, I may have to ingrain it into their brains this time… Suddenly the miss pulled out a sword from thin air, magic I hadn’t seen before. “I am the Holy Priestess of the Church! Stand down or I will have no choice but to attack!” The Emissaries of Death all laughed, then the leader Rein walked up closer. “Listen here missy, We have high-ranking adventurers in our group. You are strong but you can’t beat us all.” She ground her teeth in frustration, “At least let this man leave.” Once they heard that, their expressions contorted in anger.

“Unfortunately that old man is our target, you see. He insulted us earlier, as he used illusion magic to chase us off!” Really? Are they that stupid, Illusion magic? It is true someone could replicate that, but they could never replicate the raw fear that it sends up their spine…

“Please think this over, this man is just a simple civilian!” She said, which I chuckled at as I was most definitely not a “simple civilian”. Rein grunted, “You see miss, this man isn’t as he seems!” She looked back at me confused, to which I responded by smiling back. They all charged at us, swords ready. Simply put, they wanted to kill us. My expression turned serious, as I called them to stop, which surprisingly, they did. “Let her leave, then you may come at me with all you have.” The miss looked at me with anger and confusion, “You can’t beat these men, you should be the one to leave!” Rein smirked, “I don’t think she will leave, so we’ll just kill both of ya!” Kill? Ah, how pathetic. I smiled, “Tell me, Miss, what is your name?” I asked randomly, to which she responded confusedly, “L-Lynilia?”

“Ah what a nice name, I am Rhondu.” I said as I released pressure towards the men, excluding Lyn. Lyn’s face twisted in confusion, as she saw them kneel on the ground in pain. I raised my hand, in which 3 Darkness Knights rose from the ground, their dark grey armor creaking as they moved. “Knock them out, do not kill them,” I said smiling. Usually, I would have killed these men, as I had warned them before, but it would be wrong to let the young Lynilia see such a gory scene, so I just let my knights cripple them… “N-Necromancy?! Wh-What are you?” Lyn said, her eyes widened as she looked at me.

She backed up, as she must have noticed my presence, which is that of an undead, turning her sword towards me. “Ah, so you can sense it now correct?” I asked while desummoning my Darkness Knights because they had finished their job. “You.. You’re..” She stuttered as she witnessed my skin and flesh peel off. “Yes, I am that “evil presence” you warned me about, now, what will you do?” I said, entertained. From her expression, I could tell that she was confused, as I had been exceptionally kind to her. Before I could say anything else I sensed a large group of people, All with a holy presence. “Oh my, it seems your friends have arrived, I must thank you for accompanying me to the art store.” She turned around after she heard me say that, seeing a large group of priests and knights running towards us. “Stop right there monster!” yelled the group of priests and knights. I then teleported out of the area, leaving no clues behind.
