Chapter 6: 02

Cedric sat inside a big room as he went through a bunch of letters.

A fireplace was right beside where he sat. He turned through one letter after another and threw them into the fire.

“Another letter of admiration from some lady. I know I am handsome but this is too much.” Cedric said while being proud of his handsome face.

All the letters were burnt. A hint of the smell of burning paper was spread throughout the room.

Only one letter remained in Cedric’s hand. He continued to look at it and then finally opened it.

Cedric read it and then laughed mockingly.

“This is so suspicious. *Sigh* I shall meet her and just find something that will give me a hand over her.” Cedric said 

This was a part of Cedric’s personality that no one knew about, not even his parents or his siblings who observed his every move.

Cedric would always find some dirt on the other person so that when dealing with him, Cedric would always have the final say. To be cautious and this method not being used against him, Cedric maintained a perfect and kind image outside his house.

There would only be a few people in the whole kingdom who would be more cautious than him.

Cedric then dropped the last letter in the fire too and started to remove the shirt he was wearing.

His bare body was slowly revealed. His back was covered in a lot of small scars but there was also a very big scar extending from his right shoulder to his lower back.

Cedric did not have any developed abs or chest but he still had a solid build.

A knock came on the door and an old woman’s voice came.

“Young Lord Seventh, it is me, Dahlia.” 

Suddenly, a smile appeared on Cedric’s face and he opened the door himself.

“Young Lord, why did you... Yourself?” The woman said. She wore a maid's uniform and looked to be about 70 years old.

“Hehe, nothing. Come in nanny. What are you here for?” Cedric asked as he held one of her hands and pulled the woman inside his room.

Cedric sat on the bed and also took the woman to sit on the bed.

The woman did not sit and said,” Young lord, I am just a servant. I cannot sit with you.”

“It’s alright. You brought me up. You are like my mother, hell, you are better than my mother… Now, what did you come here for?” Cedric asked.

The woman hesitantly sat and then said,” I came here to tell you that I am leaving the mansion the day after tomorrow. I have gotten old and I want to spend my last days in my village.”

Cedric heard her out and felt sad. The nanny in front of him was one of the people he believed would never betray him other than Oscar and a few more people.

Cedric would usually never trust anyone but, his nanny brought him up and loved him like her own son.

“I get it. I wish you a safe journey, nanny.” Cedric said.

“It is almost time for dinner. I will get ready now.” Cedric said and then stood up.

The woman too stood up and left his room.

In the empty room, Cedric lay on the bed and closed his eyes for a while and thought in his mind.

‘My first worry right now is what talent I awaken tomorrow. If it isn’t the same as my elder siblings, I am doomed to die the worst way.’ 

Cedric then accidentally fell asleep and woke up due to the sound of a loud cuckoo clock.

“Shit, I will be late for dinner.” Cedric looked at the clock and hurriedly wore some normal clothes and rushed to the dining room.

Cedric stood in front of a 7-foot closed door and two servants in front of it.

He breathed a few times, got his breath back to normal and nodded looking at the servants as he said,” Do it.”

The servants opened the large gates. A big room with a long dining table could be seen through the room.

A middle-aged man sat on the head of the dining table, a middle-aged woman to his right and five boys on both sides of the table, two beside the woman and three on the other side.

“Come in, Cedric. You are late today. Are you alright?” The middle-aged man said.

Cedric walked to a seat beside one of the boys and said,” I am alright, father and I apologise for being late.”

The middle-aged man smiled and gestured for Cedric to sit.

The man was Cedric’s father, Blake Ashlet.

He was the Duke Ashlet and was also a mage at the Royal-Mage level. Having an A+ rank Fire element talent helped him reach his level.

He was a man over 130 years old. The mages would usually live a lot longer than normal people. The current strongest mage, The Mage Monarch, was already 150 years old. It was predicted that Blake had around 20 more years to live.

“So, tell me. What special happened today?” Blake asked. This was a kind of ritual which happened every time during dinner and all the siblings had to answer it.

“Today, I went to the hunting competition and there I…” Four boys spoke one by one.

When it was the boy right beside Cedric’s turn, he said,” I am sorry, father. Nothing special happened in my life today. But, if I have permission, may I ask, where is the eldest brother?”

“He is gone to participate in the monster's repulsion. Your turn, Cedric.” Blake said and then drank some of the wine in the cup right beside his left hand.

“I received an admiration letter from Lady Senna today. I am thinking of meeting her in a while.” Cedric said and then continued to take a bite of the meat on his plate.

“That is good. You got a letter from another Duke’s daughter. You don’t have a fiance either, so making her your fiance would benefit you greatly.” Blake said.

Zelene Senna was the only daughter of another Duke in the kingdom. The Senna Duchy was known for its insane financial strength and it was said that the Senna Duchy was richer than the Royal Family itself.

“Yes, father,” Cedric said in agreement with Blake’s statement.

After dinner, Cedric returned to his bedroom and changed into a comfortable night suit.

“Houzz, there is so much to do. I should awaken at least and B+ Rank talent or I would be dead. Anyways, to be prepared for the worst, I should make some plans.” Cedric said as he rubbed his eyes and started to read a notebook on his table.

The next day, at school.

The students started coming in one by one. Cedric had come and sat in the class before everyone and looked outside the window.

When Oscar came, he saw Cedric lost in thought while looking out of the window. Oscar shook Cedric by his shoulder once and greeted him.

“Hey, good morning,” Oscar said.

“HUH? Oh, good morning Oscar. How are you?” Cedric got scared for a second since he did not notice Oscar.

“I am fine. Only a little nervous for the awakening.” Oscar said.

Cedric nodded in agreement. This was the first time in his life that he was so nervous.

He did not know what would happen next, this made him nervous but curious at the same time too.

The door slid open and the teacher who was in the class yesterday entered.

She held a few books and she walked to the podium. She kept the books on it. Another woman followed her inside and stood right beside her, looking at the students in the class.

“Good morning, students. This is Grandmaster Maria and she is someone who specializes in awakening talent. I will call everyone by their roll numbers, and come here one by one.” The teacher said as she pulled out a sheet of paper and started taking names.
