Deus became lost in thought; the one thing that came to his mind was the recruitment and how he could not think about it. A year ago, he was blacklisted from all hero agencies and told he wasn't fit to become a hero. His childhood dream was shattered, but he decided to move on. Now today he was offered to become a hero again; how cruel was that?
"God, this is so frustrating. Of course, you had to offer this to me when I long abandoned my dream of becoming a hero. If it was a year ago, I would jump on it without a second thought" Deus placed his head into his hands in frustration, before letting out a deep sigh. "But still do I even want to be a hero."
"Um... May I sit here"
Deus felt a slight nudge on his shoulder; he opened his eyes to see a beautiful girl with short blond hair and see-through bangs dressed in a school uniform, as her sharp and distinct amber eyes stared down below him.
"Oh! I'm sorry miss" Deus replied nervously as his face blushed a slight red.
"No, I'm sorry for disturbing mister..."
"Um...Deus, Deus Nox" Deus remarked; figuring she was asking for his name with her reply, but Deus couldn't help, but be nervous that he acted rashly. He turned to see the girl smiling.
"Then, it's nice to meet you, Deus, my name is Camellia" She sat next to him; Deus couldn't help but take notice of her. It wouldn't be a lie to say he was attracted to her, as noted by his increasing heartbeat. But he felt something more. "Was it love?" Deus thought, but as soon as he calmed down; he couldn't help, but cringe at the thought of being lovestruck by a high school girl.
"So where are you heading today?"
"Downtown Queens. I'm heading to work" As Camellia heard his answer, she couldn't help but laughed. "Wow! I never took you as an office worker you look to be around the same age as me"
Deus was flabbergasted at Camellia's reply, "No! You got it all wrong. I'm just a part-timer at a local comic shop one of my friend's uncles runs. Besides, I'm only 19 years old." He quickly realized it was a joke and couldn't help, but blush. But it was her following words that shocked him.
"So, we are the same age then"
Deus's face was in complete shock at this realization. "She the same age as me, but she's wearing a school uniform. Is she a repeating student?" But then he felt a sudden relief overcome him, as he realized he could now make a move now. With this realization, he made it his goal to get her number.
Deus began to make small talk with her, before moving on to topics and hobbies. The two casually became friends, even though they were strangers moments ago. It was at that moment he felt comfortable enough to ask the question.
"So I take it you're a student of the hero academy" Deus shot a curious glance at her and he could tell he hit the mark, as the once energetic now stood in silence, as the two stared at each other for a brief moment.
"What makes you say that Deus?" Camellia remarked nervously, as she gave him a slight smile. Deus could tell she was nervous as she closed her eyes and her awkward body language. At that moment Deus realized she was a terrible liar.
"You don't have to worry, I'm an Esper too"
Cecilia gave a smile of relief "I see; sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. It's just you're not supposed to reveal you're an esper to anyone you know."
"You do know that's an old policy right? I can't believe that they're still teaching that in school these days; Espers aren't even discriminated against as in the past. Besides you were so obvious, anyone could tell right away."
Camellia gave him a slight nudge to his stomach."How so jackass?"Deus in response clenched his stomach; he quickly shot her a slight glance of anger, before reluctantly answering her question.
"For example, you're not hiding your school crest or limiter properly. Then there's the case for your eyes."
"My eyes! How can you conclude I'm an esper based on that?"
"It's simple, didn't the academy teach you this?" Camellia shook her head" Most of the lectures were on how to control your powers and combat training."
"That's right, most hero academia these days are so focused on training their students to be strong heroes that they forget to educate them on hero history of the scientific development of Espers. They believed as long as you're strong you become a great hero. That's why many young heroes are so focused on power these days."
"Though thinking back on it I was that way too early own, but it was because I was a fanboy and Scarlet guidance that I even research the history and multiples scientific theories of esper" Deus sighed deeply, remembering those days brought back some good memories when he was young and still striving to become a hero.
Deus grabbed his phone out of his left pocket and pulled up an article. He showed the screen to Camellia who looked dumbfounded.
"You see, due to the many research on espers over the years. Scientists discovered multiple ways to discover the possibility of a newborn child being an esper. One of which was the rarity test; the rarer the eye color the more likely you are to be an esper. Your eyes aren't simply amber, but the color gold which is rare, and with how distinct your iris is it's obvious.
"Wow! With deduction skills like that you gave Sherlock Holmes a run for his money" Camellia laughed slightly before her face took a saddened expression. "But you're wrong about one thing, I'm not a student, or at least not anymore."
Those words caught Deus off guard, "Maybe she was in a similar situation to him" Deus gave her a glance of sympathy, as he began to listen to her story.
"You see, my power is pretty useless, so I failed on most of the exams and was mostly a failing student at my academy"
"So you graduated and wasn't recruited"
"That wasn't the only reason; my father used to be a well-known hero back in the day, so people held me to massive expectations, but I'm not him and people can see that." Camellia clenched her fist; Deus could see the anger behind her eyes and didn't surprised him.
If he was in that situation would surely snap at the unfair reality she succumbed to, but the girl was different. Despite everything, she wouldn't give up, as she proclaims "But I won't give up! I will become a hero, not so I become him, but my own hero"
Deus couldn't help, but smile. Here he was struggling to consider an offer, but this girl is fighting so hard just to become a hero. He felt so stupid, as he saw Camella's fierce face he decided.
"So everyone has different circumstances. To be honest, I gave up on becoming a hero, but after talking with you maybe I can become a.."
Bang!"Nobody moves! In case you want a bullet in your head." There were two armed men on the subway. The sound of the gunshot came from the top of the subway, as a warning shot and a way to get everyone's attention. It worked, all the citizens on the subway's eyes were now focused on them.
"Damn criminals! This isn't good, hey Deus what should we do" Camellia shook Deus, but he was frozen. At that moment the memory of that moment played before his eyes; a bloody corpse slowly igniting into flames as he stared at the disgusting malicious smile of the cloaked man, as he laughed and laughed almost as if mocking him. Before he could realize it; Deus was already caught deep in the illusion and he desperately pleaded to escape. He began to see little children surrounding him, as they chanted you're no hero.
"Wake up Deus!" Camellia slapped him; feeling the fierce pain on his cheek Deus finally came back to his senses, as he took a deep breath to calm down. "Thanks! I needed that"
"So, what should we do?"Camellia looked at Deus, awaiting his answer. It was clear the situation was bad and despite the two of them being espers it was too risky for them to act; not to mention there was a possibility they can be esper as well, so with that knowledge, he came to a conclusion.

"We should stay still and not draw attention to ourselves. If we let him know espers are on here things can get ugly. Let's wait for an opportunity and call for help"
"But we can help them with our powers, why not take action?"
"It's no good. Judging based on what you said your seed isn't for combat and If I use my seeds I could possibly injure the civilians on the train. We can't take that risk, especially with people's lives on the line."
"Alright! understand so let's just sit tight,"
"Hey, Miss didn't tell you not to move." One of the armed men came over between the two. He wore a black hoodie and covered his face with a ski mask. As the man stared at the two he notices the Camellia holding onto Deus's arms, as the two glanced at each other.
"Who is this guy anyway? Your boyfriend or something" Camellia was flabbergasted at the man's remark, but after receiving a glance from Deus. Decided to play along with the man question.
"Yes! Please don't hurt him"
"You don't have to worry about anything miss. I don't have any interest in hurting anyone on this subway as long as they comply with our orders.
"But you're coming with me, I want to keep my eyes on you and besides you make a good hostage cutie" The man grabbed Camellia by her arm, and began to drag her across the floor.
"Wait don't take her!" The man punched Deus in the stomach, as he fell to the ground. "Watch your tone unless you want a bullet in your head."The man grabbed Camellia by her arm, and began to drag her across the floor.
"Wait don't take her!" The man punched
Deus in the stomach, as he fell to the ground. "Watch your tone unless you want a bullet in your head."The man pointed the gun at Deus's head; he couldn't move, as the man took Camellia to the other armed man.
"Lookie here boss caught a cutie, why don't we have some fun with her"
"Cut it, Greg! That's not what we are not here for that."
"Come on look at her you can't say she isn't beautiful, not to mention her body" The man pointed towards her chest with a malicious grin, but at that moment his boss eyes wasn't set on her body, but the black device on her arm
"Wait a second, is that a limiter? You idiot that girl is an esper, kill her now.
-This is bad, very bad
Deus stared at the gun, as the masked man held Camelia at gunpoint. "What should I do?"
The answer was obvious, but he still couldn't move; he stared aimlessly at the gun, he knew the situation was terrible and at that moment he could die, but that wasn't the reason behind his hesitation.
Her life was in his hands, any wrong moves could result in her death, but if he did nothing she would die.
"Should I rush in? No, he just pulled the trigger! God damnit, Deus think " He wanted to run from this situation, but he couldn't. He had to face this situation head-on, especially if he ever wanted to become a hero.
"Deus help me"Camellia reached her hand out to him
BANG! He watched as Camellia fell to the ground, as she slowly began to bleed covering the floor red. At that moment Deus snapped. The room became burst with lighting, as the lights began to flicker and windows shatter.
"What the hell," one of the men said, as he felt a slight shock from the ground.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" The two-man now stared at the enraged Deus, gone was his black hair as it slowly changed to white, and his eyes glowed, leaving behind the slight trances of aura. Electricity flowed throughout his body. One of the men felt fear, as he could see the bloodlust oozing out of him, as it toom the form of the blue aura surrounding him sending shocks downs his spine.
"Who I am is not important? What should be worrying about is your lives"The man pulled his gun towards Deus in response, as he clenched the trigger ready to fire. His partner stops him.
"Wait, Boss! I recognize him he's Deus Nox that Class S Esper who was banished from the hero society a year ago"
"So what's a failure of a hero like you doing here. Huh you do realize you committing a crime"
Deus whacked him across the room, sending him against the wall. The entire train was flowing with electricity
"Who the hell gave you permission to speak? You rotten bugs disgust me, but maybe you're taught manners. "After all shouldn't you bow before your god" The man couldn't help, but laugh at his words. "You're my god, don't be ridiculous, you're just those monster of an esper"
"Is that so?" The man felt the hairs on the back of his neck rose, as he turned to see Deus behind him. "Then perhaps I should teach you how to fear me" Deus's blue demonic eyes stare at him, as his body is filled with electricity. He began to move his hands towards the man.
"Deus Stop! Don't worry I am safe now," Deus turned to see Camellia. She clenched her stomach, as one of the passengers an old man held her up.
"You needed to calm down, what's more, important is that kicking this jerk's ass is making sure that the people on the bus are safe."
Deus smiled as he reverted back to his normal form. "Soon the cops arrived; the man was arrested and charged, Luckily nobody had died, but some were injured by Deus's electricity as a result Deus was taken in for questioning and committing vigilantism, but the officer said he wouldn't be charged. As for me I gave Deus my number before arriving at the hospital I think we become great friends Deus in the future but more than that"
"I see a bright future for you Deus" Camellia's eyes glowed a bright blue, as she turned to see Deus one final time.
