Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Midnight Enlistment Exam Part 2

The spirit of the espers were at their highest with the speech given by Pride. As Deus and Alister stood amongst the crowd, watching the events unfold.

"Looks like they're motivated, do you think it will be a problem?" Alister glanced at Deus who still had a smug grin on his face. 

"Not at all, these chumps are still small fry compared to me" 

"Still the same cocky bastard as ever" Alister thought, as took another look at the crowd surrounding them. However he knew Deus was right, as none looked exactly powerful or at least on Deus level. 

Just then, Out of the corner he felt an intense aura past him. As he stared at the hoodie figure. For some reason he felt wary of the figure. 

What's wrong Alister" 

"Nothing, just be careful out there" Alister hastily said. He's eyes went back to the direction where the figure was standing, but he was gone. 

Just then Alister heard his name been called on the intercom. "Alister Wade, Group Beta" 

"Shit that's my cue. see you in the next round Deus. And don't you dare lose" Alister said, waving Deus goodbye. 

"It's me do I have an chance of losing" Deus hollered back at the departing Alister. 

Deus sighed, as he looked around the crowds. "I don't know why he was worried. Doesn't look like anyone strong here." 

What was that you said punk" 

Deus turned to see a shirtless man approach him. The best word to define the man was an brute. As the man had a muscular build and scars and had scar all across his body. His red hair was in an fierce mohawk and Beard

"Oh! Is there a problem lumberjack" 

Yeah there is you brat! And my name isn't lumberjack it's Christopher Silas."

"And, why should I care" 

Silas grabbed Deus by his shirt and gave him an fierce stare down, "Look here punk, you better learn some manners."

"Oh and what if I don't " Deus said, as his azure eyes began glowed. When suddenly the announcer ring. 

"Deus Nox, Group Gamma"

Deus sighed, removing the man's hands from his shirt. As he made his way toward his group. 

The crowd was emerge in chatter. 

No way! Is that really Deus Nox" 

"Can't believe he's here" 

Silas turned to one of the espers behind him "So who's this Deus Nox kid" 

"You haven't heard, He's an S Class Esper. Honestly, you were lucky that announcement came when it did. He looked like he was fully prepared to put you down. 

"An S Class Esper that's bull shit, shouldn't someone on his level just get accepted"

" I guess that normally would be the case for any other S Class Esper, but you seen it for yourself. He has an horrible personality. During he's time at the academy he earned the nickname as The Worst Class Hero and is know for his selfish and prideful attitude. That the hero society banned him from all other agencies. Basically blacklisting him. 

" How is anyone going to compete against that monster"

"You know Monster are strong and many fear them, but there not invincible. After all it's because of that fear that selfish humans like us work together to stop those monsters " 

What was that guy's problem? Damn! He's lucky the announcement came when it did or I would clobber him." No calm down Deus you're not the same person as you were back then. 

Deus took a deep breath glanced around, as a group of 50 espers stood around him. "So, now I have to figure out what this test mean. Judging based on the fact that we were spilt up into groups maybe we will be fighting team battles. In that case it should be easy."

"Hey you're Deus right" 

Deus turned; standing behind him was the girl from before Ellie Cox. 

"Yeah! What's the business?"

Hey! No need to be hostile. We are on the same team right. My name is Ellie Cox or you call me my sidekick name Tact Wiz" 

"A sidekick huh. I heard alot about them some Esper take up roles as hero sidekicks for mentorship roles. Though it's not exactly the best paying job and heard reports about them being abused by their heroes."

Deus glanced back at the girl, as he stared into her amber eyes. "It's clear she has the most experience out of all the Esper here" 

Ellie patted Deus on his back, as she whispered in his ears." I heard a lot about you. To be honest nobody look really strong here, so I was wondering if you want to be allies." 

Why would I do that?" Deus glanced at the girl as she smiled maliciously. 

"Let me know if you change your mind, just holler" Ellie said, as she slowly walked away. 

"She was a bit weird, feel like she was hiding something, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised with her wanting to ally with me since I'm the strongest." 

Deus glanced around him as he looked around the room. He could tell many were hostile towards him. 

"Maybe she knew something about the test. Well, it's too late to ask now. I just have to adapt and if push come to shove I just eliminate the other team" 

The intercom 

"Looks like everyone is a group, alright we can now begin the first round. The rules are pretty simple, Espers of a group will compete in a battle royale. The first 15 standing will move on to the next round. You can eliminate enemy 

"Huh! This isn't good. No, this is bad. I was thinking this was an team battle, but I reality it was elimination. That means I be the first target 

Deus stared across the room, as the crowd began to surround them aura began to flow into the room, as they began to develop each of their individual powers. 

"Just my luck huh"
