Chapter 2

Slowly opening his eyes and removing the morning drowsiness which plagued him, Leo got up and did his normal morning workout which had become a routine for him. This allowed him to clear his mind from the events of the previous night and get him ready for any more bombs that Ava would throw at him today.

Stepping out of the shower, Leo looked at himself at a mirror, reflected was a black-haired kid who stood at a height of 5’6, still growing through puberty, his body was lean and held surprising amounts of muscle considering his age which everyone had assumed would be close to Ava’s as his true birth date was unknown. His body still held small scars from his memories in the slum’s however he no longer suffered from malnutrition, and he was able to receive proper healing should he find himself injured.

Getting ready to start the day, he dressed himself and started taking the breakfast to Ava’s room to wake her up, also giving them a time to talk about last night.

Knocking on the door and announcing his presence like he was used to, he walked in while holding onto the tray of breakfast food which he knew was Ava’s favorites, on the tray was a pile of pancakes which held a small jug of syrup on the side. The beautiful, golden, fluffy pancakes had a slice of butter slowly melting on top, giving off an amazing aroma.

After placing down the tray and opening up the blinds, Leo was expecting the usual routine of silliness that he was used to, however when he didn’t get this, he was surprised to see a head of black hair and dark black eyes looking at him. With her body completely covered by the blankets on top of her, Ava peeked out and stared at Leo like a predator waiting for its pray to make its last move.

As the two continued their stare-off, Leo’s vision was suddenly blocked by the blue screen which covered Ava’s face.

“Can you see it?”

As the blue screen disappeared just as it did last night, Leo looked back at Ava yet again and silently nodded.

Letting out a huff of air, Ava finally got up and trudged out of bed and started eating her breakfast. When she finally finished eating, Ava began monologuing just like the previous night.

“Okay so I have what’s called a ‘system’ where in order to make sure the demon king stays sealed for as long as possible, I have to become a villain. I don’t know if its to so that the ‘story’ doesn’t change too much or what, but I get points after people think I’m evil, so I can’t have people finding this out, okay?” After receiving a nod in acknowledgement, she continued talking.

“These points can be used for time or for items such as weapons, armor, or potions to help get stronger.” After explaining the concepts of the system which had started to sound more like a portable vending machine, the two sat in silence as Leo digested everything he had just learnt.

“So, you’ll have to make people think you’re a villain?”

“Yeah, but I don’t want people to think you’re also a bad guy, so if you want to stop-“Leo interrupted her next words with a gentle yet firm karate chop on the top of the head. As she rubbed at the hurt spot while pouting at him with small tears threatening to come out, Leo started rebuking her.

“Ava, I promised you last night, didn’t I? If you have to become a villain, then I’ll make the demon king look like an angel compared to you. I hope you didn’t take my words last night lightly.” As he spoke with a resolute tone that held no room for argument, Ava huffed and muttered about his stubbornness under her breath.

“Yeah, I was thinking you would say that, well last night before going to bed I had a though of how I can make everyone think I’m a villain whilst not actually doing that many bad deeds… It’s just that, well, what are your thoughts on becoming a hero?” As her next words forced Leo to stop his thoughts and run back on what she had just said, a confused expression appeared on his face. Seeing this, Ava decided to clear up any doubts he had.

“In the story the Saint attracts a number of guys who become the main fighting force against the demon army, however those useless guys only get strong after their parents had stuffed them full of potions to make them stronger, and even then, they relied on broken items such as The Divine Fruit.” After explaining her previous statement, a bit more, Leo understood a bit of what she meant just to be confused by another new thing.

“Useless guys? Wasn’t his highness apart of the fighting group? Wouldn’t you want your fiancée to be the hero?” As he asked her this and thought of his unrequited feelings yet again, a scowl marred Ava’s face.

“That pretentious guy? He gets hard carried by his family. And umm… well… okay… Leo, when I turned ten my parents told me that I would be expected to marry into royalty, so I prepared myself for that as that’s what my family wanted, but no matter what I just couldn’t come to love him the way I…” As she rambled on Ava’s snow-white cheeks were quickly tinted red as she stopped talking and had a small coughing fit, chugging down the water that Leo handed her she continued.

“Anyway! That stupid guy doesn’t matter anymore, especially if you become a hero like the plan, and then if you do kill the demon lord, we can, well…” After a light amount of treason, Ava continued while her cheeks had started to turn so red that Leo was close to calling a doctor. As she squirmed in her seat while holding her cheeks, her eyes were dazed and unfocused as if she was looking at something no one else saw.

“Okay! Operation: Leo becomes the hero starts today! I’m expecting big things Mr. Hero!”
