Merlin never expected to defeat Ronan by using the shard of power.
It was an unrealistic fantasy.
He saw how Carol was like at her full power.
Yet even under that form, she admitted that Ronan was a tricky opponent to deal with.
Merlin had killed Rabid Morris himself, and the half-demon wasn't even half as strong as he was.
Even if Merlin had acquired Rabid Morris' shard of power, combining two weak factors wouldn't turn Merlin into an all-powerful superhuman who can surpass Carol.
No power comes without a cost.
Morris' shard of power was simple, it only gave Merlin a second talent 'brute strength' aside from his first 'transform into fog' talent, along with the weak ability to control fire.
The mutated black fog was even more useful against the regular soldiers as he snuck into the starship.
But when facing the most powerful warrior of the Kree Empire, Ronan, Merlin's abilities seemed rather lacking.
Simply the Universal Weapon in Ronan's hand had the ability to absorb energy, control gravity, create forcefields, etc; the Accuser himself supposedly also has the ability to control ice.
His pure strength was 10 times that of an ordinary human, he didn't even get serious with Merlin, and the weight of a casual swing of his weapon was around 5-10 tonnes.
This was a monster!
But Merlin came here without the thought of killing Ronan, he was here to stall for time. He had completed his goal after storming into the command room and destroying multiple communication devices.
The communications between the Dark Aster and the surrounding armada had been cut off!
Albeit it was for a short few minutes, it was enough...this caused Ronan to not receive one crucial news.
Carol Danvers, the war machine trained by the Supreme Intelligence and their best warrior, had broken free!
"BANG"
Just as Ronan's war hammer swung towards Merlin, behind him, a flashing golden-red Carol smashes through the Dark Aster's observatory platform.
Anger boiled within the blondie as her long blonde hair drifted in the threshing energy, the energy intertwined on her fists and body was as hot as the burning sun.
"Release my friend!"
In her roar, Ronan abruptly turns back and swings his war hammer at the attacker behind him. At the same time, Carol's raised fist heavily slams into Ronan's face.
"BAM"
Two clumps of massive energy explode in the command room, the terrifying energy instantly melts the ice surrounding Merlin, and the force of the impact slammed him against the wall.
It was like there were an innumerable amount of hands pressing his body against the wall, moving was an impossible feat.
What's more concerning is that the two superhumans may not have a problem battling in space, but Merlin was just Earthling.
The Dark Aster's command room which Carol had busted a hole in was losing air pressure quickly; in a short few seconds, Merlin could feel the lack of oxygen as well as the swelling brought by the imbalance of pressure outside and inside his body.
He uses his mana to suppress the out-of-control pressure in his body with difficulty as to not let his body explode like a firework, but...it was getting harder to breathe.
In front of Merlin, he could see Carol's blazing fist smashing onto Ronan's blue face.
The expression of the once invincible Ronan was smacked into distortion, the majestic Kree was now gritting his teeth not admitting defeat looking like a silly emote.
But Ronan was indeed no ordinary person.
Facing Carol at her full strength, the war hammer in his hands caused invisible shockwaves aside from the smashing that disrupted Carol's attack, he even used his frost handguard to attack her.
The way the two superhumans battled was full of momentum, every punch and kick was full of destructive capabilities.
But under the continuous impact of the hot and cold energy along with the harder breathing, Merlin was nearly at his limit.
His vision begins to get fuzzy, and under the lack of oxygen, his mind begins to run amok.
He could faintly see Carolblasting Ronan out of the command room with her energy blast, then she retracts her energy and rushes towards him, clapping on his face and saying something to him.
Just as Merlin's about to lose consciousness, Carol takes a neck guard-like device from her neck and places it on Merlin's neck.
"Swish"
A half-covering mask appears and covers Merlin's face. The Kree tech mask gave Merlin oxygen and relieve Merlin of his pain.
"How are you? Merlin! Are you okay?"
Carol reaches out and claps on Merlin's face to help him regain consciousness.
He leans against the cabin wall, with pain being transmitted to him from his broken wrist, he lets out a weak smile at Carol and says:
"I'm fine, just feels like I've been beaten badly."
"I'll take you back to the lab,"
Carol says so and tries to pick Merlin up, but Merlin rejects her.
He curls his finger*, the katana blade which Barton had given him flies towards his hand, and he uses it as support to stand up.
"Ronan's still outside, lure him here, I'll help you."
Merlin glances outside at the stars, he sees Ronan flying towards the Dark Aster using jet boosters, he points at the silver baton at her feet and tells the blondie:
"Take this with you, go give him a good beating for me!"
Carol picks up the berserker baton, the runes on the baton quickly light up, and red glow flickers; a flame of anger seems to burn in the blondie's blue eyes.
"Good stuff. Watch me!"
She waves the baton and nods at Merlin, she then accumulates energy and flies towards the outside.
Merlin takes out a bandage from his pocket, intertwines it on his broken hand, and hangs his arm to his neck.
He supports his body with the katana blade and goes to the observatory platform of the Dark Aster, where he watched as the blazing Carol battled the war hammer-wielding Ronan among the stars.
The hyper-scale battle fascinated Merlin.
But he didn't forget his duty.
He takes out his wand Lola, activates his second sight, and as his dark senses are spread to the extent, he silently waits for his chance to strike like a hidden beast.
Carol with the berserker baton had doubled her strength, this thing was incomplete, and its effect on a super female warrior like Carol was not as obvious as its effect on Merlin.
But this was enough for Carol to suppress Ronan in direct combat.
The Accuser was fighting a difficult battle, he was slowly being forced back towards the Dark Aster by the brutal Carol.
But using the Universal Weapon in his hand, Ronan could still barely hold on.
The forcefield shield generated by the hammer protected Ronan, as to not let him be wounded by the rampaging Carol.
But Ronan didn't pay attention to what was behind him, at the edge of the command room of the Dark Aster, a sharp retaliation was on its way.
Merlin raises the wand with his right hand with high concentration, then, as he saw the Ronan get closer, he turns his wrist, loads Lola with dark mana, and casts Expelliarmus skillfully!
"Expelliarmus!"

The totally un-scientific spell hits Ronan from behind, the Accuser feels the Universal Weapon in his hands jump out of his hands in a strange way.
Ronan senses a lethal danger as of this moment.
Even as he grabbed the Universal Weapon in the next second, the dissipation of the invisible forcefield gave the red-eyed enhanced Carol a chance.
She raises her right fist, and as the blue-red energy formed a fist, she roared as she threw the punch accurately at Ronan's chest like a meteorite before the forcefield could cover him.
"Crack"
The sound of his chest being broken and the pain he had not felt for a long time caused the Accuser to spit out blue blood.
His body crashes down onto the Kree starship below him under Carol's forceful attack.
"BANG"
The bridge of the black beast-like starship was shattered by the falling Ronan, as the metal scattered, he smashed towards the unsuspecting Kree commanders, smashing them into pieces.
But with the forcefield shield provided by the Universal Weapon, Ronan did not collapse so easily.
Even under all this pain and impact, Ronan still held onto his rationality.
The Kree commander quickly gets up, and before Carol could rush to him, he limps across the shattered corpses and reached the communications next to the bridge.
Ronan picks up the communicator with his bloody face, he glanced at the blue planet and shouted with all his might:
"This is Ronan! Hear my command!"
"Target planet c-53! Launch all the missiles!"
"Activate the Dismantling Cannon! Crush it!"
"BANG"
As Ronan released his orders, the descended Carol smashes her fist on his shield, knocking him back once again. The blondie kicks and destroys the communicator, but it was too late.
Among the stars behind her, the Kree starships that launched ballistic missiles at a fixed rate abruptly speed up 3 times like they were on drugs.
In a split second, countless black missiles filled the orbit surrounding the Earth.
What's more concerning, was that in Ronan's armada, there were 2 larger-than-average starships moving out of formation towards Earth under the escort of its frigates.
The outer deck of the 2 starships begins to open and like a monster poking its head out of its nest, 2 swirling large black cannons protruded from the starships.
Massive amounts of energy begin to accumulate on the starships, this meant that it would be devastating once the two cannons fire.
"What did you do?"
Carol questioned while screaming, in front of her, Ronan was coughing painfully; he tightly grasps the war hammer in his hand and a destroyer's signature expression appears on his face.
"You were once a Kree warrior, have you not heard of the Dismantling Cannon? I admit, the resilience of planet c-53 surprises me...but its doom is inevitable!"
"Bring it! Carol Danvers!"
The bloody Ronan waves his war hammer and roars at Carol:
"With the doom of the world you swore to protect as a stage! Let us put the glory of life and death on the edge of our blades!"
But Carol didn't respond to his battle cry, she simply stared at Ronan with a terrifyingly calm gaze and says:
"If Earth is destroyed, Ronan...I swear that the same disaster will befall Hala!"
"You best pray...don't let me become an avenger!"
Ronan's distorted expression abruptly changes.
No one else knew better than him how powerful a fully unleashed Carol Danvers is.
With the Supreme Intelligence nearing disintegration, can Hala really stop the female super warrior in front of him with their defenses?
Carol ignored the Kree warrior's duel request.
She turns around and storms into the stars without hesitation.
Moments later, the nearest Kree starship which was unloading missiles onto Earth was destroyed in an unreasonable way, just as how Carol destroyed those missiles on Earth.
In the unending flames of destruction, under the stars, Carol speeds up and storms towards another starship in a ruthless fashion.
She had to destroy the two dismantling ships before the destructive dismantling cannon fires!
Otherwise...
It'll all be over...
As the super war occurs on Earth's orbit, on the unnoticed moon, in the shadows of the silent natural satellite, two figures were looking at the destructive war occurring in the distance.
They were two humanoids, a male and a female.
The male wore an odd black combat uniform, with two golden shoulder pads embellished on his shoulders and a gorgeous red cape on his back. What's most peculiar was that on top of the helmet which covered half of his face, revealing only the eyes, nose, and mouth, is a Y-shaped tuning fork-like adornment.
On the oxygen-less surface of the moon, on the silver tuning fork on his head, streaks of white light were flickering.
Next to this quiet man was a lady wearing a black-red combat uniform.
She had a cape-like, puffy, wine-red hair that reached her feet, she adorned a black hair crown on her forehead which looked like an actual crown.
This was a rare beauty, she looked at the exploding flames among the stars and says to the close yet quiet man next to her:
"My king, those are Kree...our creators, we cannot meddle in this war, for it would break our rule of staying hidden and even expose our existence."
The man remains silent for a brief moment before shaking his head.
Although speechless, the woman seemed to know what the man was thinking, she says:
"They want to destroy the Earth, but that's not our problem...I mean, the Inhuman Dynasty has detached from the Earth a long ago!"
The man shakes his head once more, he reaches out and writes a few words on the woman's palm.
"Our kin, still there. Unignorable. That is...home!"
Seeing the stubborn man, the long-haired woman shrugs and quietly leans against the man's shoulder, saying:
"Then as you say, my love, I will be by your side regardless of what happens in the future."
The quiet man smiles gently, he reaches out and pats on his wife's shoulder.
As he raised his head, in those wise eyes of his, a touch of resonant fighting spirit...
Completely ignites.
