“Serves him right!”

“He deserves much worse than this, to be honest…”

“Hah! Even the so-called Great ‘Bloodthirsty’ King stands no squat in the face of death!”

“Ssssh! Don’t be too loud! He’s still alive…”

And so many more.

Surrounding a huge, lavish bed, a group of people dressed in luxurious attires could be seen whispering to each other. They were inside a vast, bright room filled with expensive-looking paintings and furniture. The tiles were made of white marbles with some brown hues here and there.

It was easy to tell that the room was owned by someone of a high social-standing; a king, for example.

Weak and deep grunts were heard from the direction of the bed. And there, a dying old man was lying down on his deathbed, gasping for air while several well-educated looking men in white robes tried to provide their assistance.

Before long, one of them stood up with a gloomy face and uttered in a soft tone, “He… The King only has less than a day left to live. I am so sorry. We have done our utmost best.”

The King’s ears twitched a little after hearing that and it quickly made him realize his time drew near. Amidst of his erratic, unorganized breathing, the King turned his head to his right and weakly reached his hand for a small red orb near his pillows. He wasn’t able to do so, and one of the robed men helped him.

“Is this what you want, Your Majesty?” asked the man as he placed the orb in the King’s palm.

Without giving much response, the King only nodded weakly and grasped the orb, pulling it to his chest and closed his eyes.

The people around him only stared without knowing what the King was doing and raised their eyebrows, questioning the King’s intentions.

Knowing that he was at the center of attention, the King grunted and spoke in a hoarse voice, “Leave me alone. I want to have my last moment by myself.”

All the people in that place were putting looks of disbelief on their faces, especially those who had been talking bad behind him a little while before. He might be dying, but he was still their King, and his order was absolute to them.

After bowing, those including the robed men excused themselves from the King’s personal chamber. Outside of the door, the King could still faintly hear what those people were saying.

“What the hell is his problem?”

“Just leave him be. He’ll die soon anyway.”

“C’mon. Let’s go.”

Silence fell upon the entire place right after, leaving only sighs and grunts of the King. His old, dying body was at its limit, and talking like before was all he could do to at least find some peace in his last moments. Alone, on his deathbed.

“At last… Silence.” The King whispered and closed his eyelids shut. In his hands, the red orb from before was starting to glow dimly. Along with the small heat it radiated, the orb then floated mid-air right above the King’s chest.

The King smirked while reminiscing about his past as the Greatest King in the continent, the Bloodthirsty King Edward Blinstein.

As a king possessing the talents, skills, capability, and authority, Edward always considered himself a perfect being as he had never made any mistakes in ruling his country to its prosperity and glory. He had been known as the strongest, wisest, and greatest King in history, and still was.

However, he was also known as the Bloodthirsty King, who would ruthlessly crush anything that stood in his way; be it a person or a whole nation.

The Kingdom he reigned, the Imperial Kingdom of Blinstein, had used to be a poor country devoid of any optimal means to develop their economy. Even maintaining their status as an independent country was proven hard enough as the Kingdom was located right in the middle of the continent.

The resources were scarce, and without possessing any sort of marinatic ecosystem, the Imperial Kingdom of Blinstein was deemed to collapse. It was all complemented by the corrupt and wicked nobilities.

At such a dire time, a young Royalty ascended the throne after exacting a coup d’etat, killing all other royalties and nobilities in the Kingdom. His name was Edward Blinstein, the bastard son of the former king and a mysterious traveling witch.

He beheaded his own father in front of the mass and brazenly stated, “I am your new King now. You like it or not, I do not wish to give any damn. Those who want to follow me, stay! Those who do not, leave! That’s all.”

His sharp and assertive tongue charmed many, while the rest losing hope and faith in the kingdom obviously left. Together with his trusted aides, King Edward began his strive for the

Imperial Kingdom of Blinstein’s new dawn.

Back to the present time…

*MC's POV

“This… This is… underwhelming…” I softly muttered. “Oh well, what did I expect?”

In front of me, a semi-transparent holographic window was floating firmly, giving off vibes from that of an RPG. Huh? RPG?

“Hmm… My system is still working fine, it seems. And my name is… Elise? That sure has a nice ring to it.” I, Elise, calmly observed the window.

I had to bend my body forward slightly to get a better look at the information stated in it, and after reaching the conclusion a while later, I fixed my back and claimed, “Uh-huh. Yep, trash. Just like what I wanted. The last panel keeps bugging me, though. What in the world is [▋▋▋▋ Aura] anyway? Is it an error or something? Never seen anything like that before.

I soliloquized on my own. Well, to be honest, too many things were revolving inside my head and this body’s brain couldn't keep up with my original thoughts’ process speed so a lot of my thoughts casually slipped out from my tongue. Be as smart and a genius like me then you’ll understand what I’m saying. Wait, who am I explaining this to, anyway?

I immediately touched the section I had just questioned using my right index finger. Well, it had always been working fine before, at least when I was still being Edward. This time, however, something strange occurred.

No, it worked just fine but… the information given by the system was somewhat surprising and had me in shock at how random it was.

“Wow… I don’t know if I can call this a jackpot but uh… What?”

So many questions arose in my brain. Just as I had stated, I had never seen anything like that in my life, be it my current or past life. Knowing that I didn’t have the answers to those questions, I could only close the window and grinned awkwardly.

“Let’s pretend I never saw that. I wanted to live a normal life anyway.”

Just a moment after the last syllable escaped from my lips, my ears twitched as I heard footsteps coming to my direction from the darker part of the alleyway. I kept my guard up, subconsciously, and hid behind the dumpsters nearby.

Through the small gaps in between, I peeked.

Before long, a group of dirty looking men was treading on the muddy ground in the distance. Their clothes looked shabby and all of them wore ragged cloaks similar to the one I was wearing. Additionally, two of them were holding cheap-looking swords.

Once they arrived at where I had stood before, they began to look around, rummaging through the whole place. It seemed they were searching for something. I knew my safety was in danger since I could roughly guess what they were actually looking for, so I had to hold my breath when one of them with a burly body approached the dumpsters I was hiding.

And heck, it seemed I ran out of luck.

Oh hell no

My eyes accidentally met with that burly man’s and he immediately rushed to grab me. He forcefully lifted me by the wrist and my random thought reminded me again of how skinny this body is.

It was painful, but I tried my best not to squeal because I knew it would only make the man happy and I didn’t want that.

“Oh here she is!” said the man as he dragged me out of my hiding. “Told you I heard something here! Hahahaha!”

I tried to retaliate by flailing my other free arm but it was futile. My twigs-like arm was too short to even reach the man.

“Oh, playing hard, are we? Behave yourself, kid!” said the man as he raised his hand up.

*Slap!*

Before I knew, I was already sitting on the ground while holding my right cheek. It happened so fast I didn’t even have the time to react.

When I regained my senses, the searing pain in my cheek was already burning. That man had slapped me, and I felt a switch was flipped inside my body.

A moment later, my sight signaled me that I was surrounded by 5 men looking at me with nasty eyes. I could only glare at them as they gradually came closer to me. However, they all stopped after seeing my bare face that I myself hadn’t even gotten the chance to look closely at.

“Ugh… She’s so scrawny, brother. No one’s going to buy her!”

“Nu’uh. Some nobles have a thing for small and thin girls. Not to mention her face is the real deal, huhu…” said the man with a burly body while licking his lips and glancing over my body, again. I couldn’t help but feel even more disgusted after hearing him adding, “She’ll definitely fetch quite a high price. But before that, let me have a taste first.”

“Hey! That’s unfair! Lemme have my share too!”

“You guys… Just don’t forget she’s our goods. I’ll go back to the base with Pablo.”

So this is how being looked disgracefully at feels like… This feels… more infuriating than being negatively branded.
