I was drowning in emotions I thought I had lost when I noticed two men were slowly heading towards the deeper part of the alleyway, leaving the three to stay with me. Coincidentally, the two were the ones carrying the swords. Fortune still hadn’t abandoned me, it seemed.

However, I immediately retracted my gratitude after the three rushed to hold me down. One was holding my legs by the ankles, another one my wrists, and the last one with a burly body pulled down my cloak.

They grinned nastily as they stared down at my body which was only covered in a wet, thin white cloth. It was fun and all for them, judging from their expressions, until I could no longer hold myself from lashing out at them and opened my mouth right before the burly one laid his hands on my undeveloped chest.

“Are you sure you’re doing this, mister?” I tilted my head slightly, trying to hold back my anger. I even forced myself to put a smiling act on despite the fact that I felt my face was burning with rage.

Anger crept across the burly man’s face after I said that, resulting in him stopping his hands from going further and glared sharply at me. He must have felt annoyed at how brazen the little girl in front of him was and planned on giving her the beating she needed— or I needed. That’s what I read from his attitude and he definitely would…

Just like what he had done a little while ago.

“What are you trying to do, little girl? Begging for mercy already?”

Speechless. I pitied him. I pitied his shallowness. I pitied… his entire being as a human.

I only shook my head as my anger gradually subsided, unfortunately. The mixed feelings in my heart also disappeared, somehow, and I felt more alive than ever.

Although I was still being held captive by that man and his two friends, all I could do was only look at him… Yes, I looked at his conspicuously insignificant existence.

Ah, this man is not needed in this world. The world would be better without a puny mutt that could only smear the soil with its filth. Truly, a grime beyond salvation

“You…!” The burly man suddenly uttered with a hoarse voice.

I didn’t know what my face looked like when I was thinking about the burly man that way but the three of them suddenly released me from their grips as they harmoniously fell on their butts.

“Well, thank you for releasing me, I guess…” I genuinely stated.

At first, I thought their reaction was exaggerated. I did feel something was out of place the moment I noticed them crawling backwards until their backs hit against the dirty walls. But when I saw their faces going pale in terror, I was convinced that something was definitely wrong.

“No… No! Don’t come closer!”

The shriek from the burly man slapped me back to reality. How could I lose myself in front of others like this? The thought of me losing control over myself slowly chipped away at my sanity. I took a few deep breaths in succession and calmed myself down. It worked.

“Misters, what you planned on doing to me earlier is a crime, you know? If only King Edward is still alive, you will be executed right away.”

I tried to distract my anger by giving those men a little bit of a lecture. Some kind of a service, if I must say. They should be grateful that I, the King himself— albeit now in the form of a girl named Elise, deliberately gave them the knowledge they would never be worthy enough to lay their hands on.

While those men were still struck in awe and astonishment, or so they seemed like, I placed my index finger at the center of my body; the solar plexus. Gently, I pushed on it and recalled how my past self conjured a phenomenon called magic.

Before long, a hot and churning sensation whirled inside my chest and along with that, I felt extremely relieved.

What I was feeling was the circulation of mana. Every living organism in this world is blessed with mana, as far as I know. Mana itself is the source of magic, or I should say it is the fuel to generate and evoke various phenomena starting from simply controlling the natural elements around you to summoning a big meteor that could destroy a country in the blink of an eye.

In my previous life, I hadn’t even needed to bat an eye to cast devastating magic since I had the talent and my effort as the most fundamental aspects. But now, I had to start from scratch since this body was literally talentless, not that I really needed to, anyway.

I concentrated a little bit more. My brain automatically provided the image of my hands collecting the water particles from the damp and humid air around me while slowly removing the oxidized part to create even purer molecules. The purer the molecules are, the easier they will freeze…

… Wait a minute. How do I know all this…? No… It’s not important. I must focus on what’s in front of me right now.

The temperature around me started to drop drastically, creating slightly cold mist that was almost invisible to the naked eyes. To be honest, I always found magic really fascinating. Well, I could always think about that later.

“Freeze.”

I calmly chanted and pointed my finger at those men in front of me. Suddenly, an enormous surge of energy was forcibly sucked from my body through the pores of my hand and in an instant, my surroundings froze at a tremendous speed.

“Aaaaargh! My feet! My feet are freezing!”

“Noooooo—-!”

The glittering mist quickly spread all over the place, leaving the already desolate place even more desolate; except there were screams of terror and agony going on..

It was already a cold night, in addition to the rain before, casting a simple ice magic made it even colder. It was also easier to do that, and that was the exact reason why I had chosen ice magic out of all elements I had mastered.

Silence fell upon the place, as the men who had been my nightmares were now frozen solid from head to toe.

“Oh, they now look like the ice statues carved by experts in D*sney Land… Huh? Wait? What is D*sney Land?” I questioned myself in bewilderment.

Again, there was something wrong with this body. The first one was the explanation about water particles earlier, and now the thing named D*sney Land. What in the actual hell is it even?

With that question hanging on my brain, my eyes laid upon the three statues in front of me. I made those. No, I caused those. And it was proof that I was somewhat alive. However, something odd struck my brain not long after.

How could a body with almost no experience of using magic be able to use magic that easily?

I knew I was the one controlling it from inside. And I also knew I carried my memories, system, and skills over when I had chosen this body. But the fact that this girl, Elise, conjured a cryogenic phenomenon in her first try left a huge hole in my brain. Then more questions hit me like bludgeons.

Why did those men release me from their grips?

Why did they fall on their butt?

What could have… terrorized them that much?

Something must have caused it, and after recalling their exact reaction, it was easy to tell that I was the reason. But why? I had been acting so normal just like any other girl out there… Well, before I froze them with my magic.

Would there be any reasons they were afraid of me? And what is this weird sensation in my face I have been feeling this whole time?

Slowly, I reached my hands out for my face. The touch, sensation, even the movement my facial muscles made when smiling was still the same. Nothing was seemingly off.

Wait… Smiling? Me?

I traced my fingers alongside my jawline and once I reached my lips, I could feel the corners raising, forming a disturbing smile, albeit I still had no way to even look at it myself.

I was baffled. I had been smiling the whole time and that was probably what had caused the three men to cower in fear before me. No, they probably just got weirded out by my smile.

This must have something to do with these weird, unknown terms… Wait… Don’t tell me—!

I flinched at my sudden realization and without thinking further, I summoned my system window frantically.

“Status!”

*Beep!*

All the questions I had before, and probably the unknown terms as well, were answered in that instant. I widened my eyes in surprise, clearly not expecting to see something like this.

… I see… So that’s how it isThat explains everything.

I couldn’t help but cover half of my face using my palm and stared up to the sky. The emotions I was feeling were indescribable, but one thing for sure… This world had decided to play with me, with my freedom, again. In the face of that predicament, I laughed. I could only laugh in frustration as my status window was glowing brightly in the dark.
