It took quite a long time for me to stop laughing after feeling like being played by fate like a fiddle. The holographic window showing my newest status was still floating in front of me, yet I already lost interest in looking at it anymore.
I felt so betrayed. In the end, I kicked the statues in front of me and they crumbled to smithereens.
*Beep!*
[Congratulations! Níðhǫggr has accepted your offerings.]
[Your vitality will be regenerated soon.]
[No Essence will be gained from killing normal organisms.]
Another notification popped up in front of me as it only made me feel even more frustrated. I had believed that I was free from this world’s interference after death and this whole ordeal proved that my hypothesis was all wrong.
Just because I was able to escape ‘real’ death didn’t mean I was freed from fate, huh?
Anyway, it was useless to dwell in this kind of emotion for too long and I decided to straighten my head up and look at my status window. By the time my eyes feasted upon the numerous characters in it, my body emitted a dim silver light as I began to feel better, both mentally and physically.
It was strange since it had never happened before. Feeling weirded out, I shifted my gaze towards my arms and they didn’t look as scrawny as before. Instead, the skin became smoother as this weird sense of accomplishment suddenly rushed up to my brain. Is this what girls feel when they glow up?
The sudden change in my physical condition was one to note, but the most prominent one was my mental state.
I was definitely frustrated knowing that this world’s system was interfering with my system. However, what I was feeling after that odd silver light radiated from my body was pure satisfaction and acceptance.
“Okay. Let’s have a look at my status now…” I mumbled while staring intensely at the window.
First of all, there was a new tab identified as [Job] and it stated I was a [Prophetess]. Though I possessed the basic knowledge of what a prophet is, I would need more insights to get better understanding and if possible, the complete understanding. For now, all I knew was that a prophet is a person able to perform miracles and destined for something big. That was the simplest elaboration as it quickly became a huge contrast to my original objective.
The next one, or rather, the next ones were the two new [Innate Talents] that just suddenly popped up out of nowhere. All living beings in this world, along with mana, are granted natural talents when they are born and it is a fact. No matter what kind of creature it is, an organism must possess this as the bare minimum requirement for an individual to at least be able to support their own life.
This body, however, originally possessed only two [Innate Talents]; [Foul Feeder] that definitely referred to this body having eaten, well, gross or perhaps inedible things, and [Vitality] that represented this body’s physical health. Both of them were low leveled and for some reason, my heart ached when I thought of this and it felt disheartening. Perhaps this body— MY body, tried to reject recalling what had happened before. Let’s check this girl’s memories later.
The newest [Innate Talents], [Elemental Extremity] and [Magic Extremity] were, on the other hand, something I could’ve hoped for when I was still being Edward, albeit they were now useless if I wanted to live normally. These two were the sole reasons for this body being able to evoke magic easily.
When I checked the status before I met those men, these talents hadn’t been there. Possibly, this happened when I felt a switch was flipped inside me. Something must’ve triggered these crazy overpowered talents to appear, though I wasn’t 100% sure of it.
“Does it have something to do with the [Prophetess] job?” my thoughts slipped out again.
Thirdly, the [Skills]. Just as the same as [Innate Talents], [Skills] are granted naturally and bound to the soul. In my body’s case, it originally didn’t even possess one since this Elise girl had died, albeit not for long. That’s why I called this body ‘trash’. And as for those (Inherited) stuff, those were skills I carried over in a wandering soul state. Before I died, I could have managed to carry over more skills if I were given more chances. If only I could rewind the time…
No, I shouldn’t even be thinking that way.
And lastly, the most ridiculous ones, the [Unique Traits]. To be honest, I had completely forgotten this tab even existed. Back in my days, there were still a lot of mysteries about it I hadn’t been able to crack and though unnerving, I had to swallow the hard pills as I had almost nothing to elaborate.
Maybe it was a blessing? A curse? Or perhaps some kind of title? I don’t know.

The first trait that had caught my attention was [Níðhǫggr’s Hunger Aura]. At first, it was blurred with censorship as if trying to conceal something important. But when it was revealed, the name ‘Níðhǫggr’ still didn’t even give away any hints of who or what it is. I recalled it saying about the spawns of something and how I must return them. What the hell is that even?
If it wasn’t important, the system would most likely not try to conceal its origin. Now that its name was visible, what I needed to do was ultimately gather information regarding what ‘Níðhǫggr’ actually stood for; and for what reason it gave me its blessing I had just experienced just a moment earlier. Too many questions regarding this trait alone, and I didn’t think it would be possible even for this great me to solve the riddle in an instant.
The second trait that was probably the ultimate reason for all these eventful happenings, the [Reincarnator from Another World]. It was a dead give away regarding this girl’s real identity and I must access her memory to strengthen my hypothesis.
And also, the possibilities for me to broaden my brain power even more. Hehehe…
However, I could already guess this trait alone was the exact cause for me to comprehend the unknown knowledge and words from before. I mean, what else could possibly be causing that aside from this? A big, fat nothing.
After all that thinking, I felt so much better. It felt like I had just opened a new gate towards a better understanding about myself— No, about this Elise girl. Never once in my life had I met an individual this complex and interesting.
Sure, there were the braves and demon lords but their way of thinking had always left me unfazed. To put it honestly, they were boring. They almost thought of nothing but destroying the other party and that, for me personally, was just a waste of time and resources.
Speaking of time and resources, I wondered if the offerings the system had mentioned before was about these frozen rubbles near my feet. They used to be people, yes, but now they aren't.
Don’t get me all wrong, but I feel almost no remorse for killing these men.
They were trying to ravish me and all I did was self-defense. Period. No more excuses.
Instead, I felt a little sorry for Elise, this body’s original owner. I didn’t know if it was because my body was that of a woman now, but I was thinking that if only Elise had stayed alive for a little bit longer, she would have the chance to change her life.
The trigger of her hidden trait to appear must be her own recognition of those men as her enemies, and for that alone, I knew it too well. But well, if she hadn’t passed on, I wouldn’t be having my second chance to live, had I?
After dawdling around a little more, I decided to close the window.
By the time it closed with a little bit of glitch before completely disappearing, my stomach growled. The timing was impeccable, to be honest. It was so loud and caused me to feel slightly embarrassed. Easily, it was the loudest growl I had in both my lives and I knew I must take some sort of calorie intake to keep this body properly functioning.
Sluggishly, I walked around the corner of the dumpsters to find my ragged cloak and too bad… It was too wet and dirty beyond saving. Subconsciously, I realized it would ultimately encourage the bacterias, viruses, and germs to take their action on my weak body.
Bacterias? Viruses? Germs? The cause of diseases? … Eh?
A lot of random thoughts were spinning inside my head while I dragged my wet cloak along the way. Instead of going to the much brighter place, I decided to go even deeper to the dark alley. Why? I didn’t know. My gut instinct was telling me to do so, in hope I would stumble upon something I could eat.
Before long, I could find myself wobbling and swaying to the left and right like a drunkard. And to make it even worse, I didn’t quite remember when I got those but the tips of my fingers were frostbitten. Was that because of the ice magic I had cast earlier?
The burn in my fingers was amplified by the natural coldness of the dark and damp alleyway, but I didn’t stop my legs from moving. I almost lost my consciousness, until my blurry sight spotted a tiny fire near a small hut made of wood planks directly around 20 meters in front of me. With the image of a big chunk of meat in my mind, I grinned and dragged my legs to follow the scent.
