After confirming that Noel had left, Alum sat down and began to sort the paperwork. He sorted them, looked for mistakes, and handed them to Rigeld, who double-checked and signed them. The two worked until late at night every time this happened. Alum loathingly looked over at Rigeld. (I would be no part of this if you just did your work, old man!) Upon noticing Alum’s loathing look, he just brushed it off with a laugh. “We’re almost finished; I’ll treat you to something later, okay?” Alum knew he was getting baited but decided to take it either way. “Oh? Then I’d like sweets. The expensive ones!” Rigeld, of course, knew this would be the outcome. (Seriously, this brat only cares about sweets? I like him; at this point, I could even try convincing my brother to let him marry his daughter.) “You really like sweets, don’t you? You’re like my niece. I think you two would make great friends.” Alum stopped. “Really now? The Princess doesn’t look like she has a sweet tooth, though?”

Understandably so, the first Princess looks serious and is a genius. She excelled academically and recently became a commander of a mage squad at 16. She is also teaching the wanderers combat magic; even the Saint became an instructor for them. Albeit, Rigeld found it strange for the Saint to request it herself. Even the Hero decided to teach them. Rigeld felt glad that he would be able to relax. With that combination of people, he could expect great results! “What are you smiling about? Stop that.” Alum said in an annoyed tone. “Oh, come on, how can I not? The Saint and the Hero signed themselves up to teach the wanderers and the newcomers. How can I not, if may I ask?” Alum went quiet. “I already saw those documents two days ago. Good for you. Otherwise, you have to find people personally.” After all that was said and done, Alum had finished everything. “Well… finding someone isn’t that easy. The personnel capable of teaching are few. Currently, they mainly focus on researching the stuff you wanderers brought.”

“Really? You have a military academy, don't you? Why not send them there instead of keeping them in the headquarters?” Alum knew that a military academy existed two days away with an airship and that sending them there wasn’t an issue. “Kid, that’s not all there is to it. We decided we wanted the wanderers to get used to living in the capital. Sending you guys to campus in the wilderness won't expose you to much of the culture here. Besides, from the looks of it, you guys have no combat experience. The people over there expect you to have some combat experience throughout your academic life.” Alum smiled a bit and turned around. “Aren’t you awfully considerate? Well, I do like that part. I’m going back to my room then.” Upon hearing his response, Rigeld smiled.

“Kid, you like quiet places, right? There is a secret library no one uses. Here is the map. Don’t worry. I’ll be sure to have the treat prepared next time!” Alum took the map and sighed. “... Next time? Haa…? Well, just call me then, you can find me in my room. Or wait, maybe I’ll be in the training facility too. I have something I want to try. Mind giving me access?” Rigeld gave him a red crystal ring. “This is an access key; don't lose it. I just had it made for you since I thought this would happen. I would appreciate it if you did not try to unlock any rooms you aren’t supposed to. If you do, it will trigger an alarm, so save me the headache.”

Alum looked at it. It seemed very expensive. “Is there any benefit for you in this? Giving me all this and that?” Rigeld smirked. “Haha, if I win your trust, I can rest at ease. Besides, you are the type that doesn’t betray others once you give them your trust.” Alum looked at Rigeld with astonished eyes. Deep down, he felt happy being trusted by others and couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. Noticing Alum’s bashfulness, Rigeld patted him on the shoulder. “The rooms this key can access are my office, the secret library, and Training facility UM.07.” Hearing that Alum got a slight headache. This was too much responsibility. (Your office!? There are some very important documents here, and you’re just going to give me access to it?... No, he trusts that I don't snoop around; I guess it's fine? But it is still a lot of responsibility all of a sudden, for just one key….) Rigeld couldn’t help but enjoy seeing Alum in distress.

“By the way, UM.07 is my personal training facility. Maybe I will swing by and see how you progress when I get the time.” All of this makes Alum a bit skeptical, and the preferential treatment confuses him further. “Uncle Rig, what are you planning?” Alum’s question was just brushed off as Rigeld laughed. “Kid, you’ll thank me.” He said. “... Fine, I’ll figure it out eventually,” Alum said and left the room. Rigeld looked towards the door that Alum had just closed. “Well, she should be there at this time; I wonder if he will go there tonight.”

After some time, Alum was walking in the dimly lit corridors of the enormous underground base. He had gotten a map from Rigeld and was looking for facility UM.07. He eventually found it and tried the key that was in the form of a ring to unlock the door. Fortunately for him, it worked, and the alarm didn’t go off. The door slides open, and another one behind it. A few of them opened. Upon entering, there were two more doors, one which seemed to lead to a changing room, and the other was the training facility itself. (Seriously? Do I get to use all this? I feel like a spoiled kid….) Thinking that, he looked around and left. He decided to come to the underground facility first because it was further away from his room. The Library should be above ground and not too far from his room. So he planned to go there after seeing the training facility. Alum walked towards the closes elevator he could find to get above the ground. Only to see a familiar face when the elevator door slides open. The two stood there silent for a moment. Alum entered the elevator.

Alver was the knight that led him to the meeting room when he first arrived in the capital. “What were you doing down here?” Alver asked Alum. “... Well, I came to see the training facility,” Alum answered. “In the middle of the night? Show me proof.” Alum was tired at this point and just gave him the map that was given to him by Rigeld. “Here, I got this map from Sir Rigeld.” Alver looked at it thoroughly as they went up floors. “... I see, be careful. This map has a basic base layout and should not fall into bad hands. Well then. I’m at my destination now. I will have to excuse myself.” Alum just nodded, not having the energy to deal with him. (Geez, He’s so stiff.) Alum thought and sighed.

Now that he was above ground, he decided to head to the supposed secret library. Upon finding it, he used the ring and griped the door knob. Upon entering, he was greeted by moonlight and books. There were plenty of books, but not so many he would consider it a library; if anything, it looked like a study. He walked around the room and came across a couch behind the third bookshelf. (This feeling… deja vu?) on the sofa sat a girl, reading in the moonlight. She glanced over at Alum, who was just wandering the room. “Oh my? I thought it was an assassin, so it was just you?” In front of him was the first Princess Luna Ilifel. She had straight black hair and silver-colored eyes. (... The old man knew, didn’t he?) “Princess Luna… I didn’t know you were here. I will excuse myself then.” As Alum was trying to leave, Luna left her seat and grabbed his coat. “No, not yet, you see. Uncle Rigeld told me we could become great friends. I wanted to find out if it was true or not. So stay a while.” Her face was expressionless, and it was hard for Alum to figure out what she was thinking. “Well, he did mention that….”

He was dragged to the couch and received sweets with tea. She lit up the magic lamps and sat beside him. Luna was staring at Alum, making him slightly uncomfortable. “Um… Princess, could you not stare at me, please?” Realizing she was staring at him, she apologized. “Oh, my apologies, I just thought you had beautiful eyes, and the moonlight reflecting on your hair is also beautiful.” Alum was amazed. (Wait, uncle Rig told me she was similar… does that mean I’m this blunt?) “Well, I could say the same about you, Princess Luna.” Upon hearing this, her facial expression softened. “Thank you. I think we can get along just fine.” Alum thought she seemed different. She was usually either cold or expressionless. But then again, he doesn't know her enough to judge. “Do you come here often, Princess Luna?” Luna softly chuckled. “Uncle Rigeld didn't tell you? This is my private study, so I’m here quite often.” Alum finally saw where this was going. “Ermm… this may be rude. But did Sir Rigeld want us to become friends or more…?” Luna, who had a soft smile and said. “Perhaps he wants it to be more, but I don’t think that will happen.”

Alum was relieved when she said that. “... Yeah, I also doubt that.” Luna then unexpectedly brought up the Saint. “You know, there is this rumor that the Saint has found a man she likes.” Alum froze for a brief moment. “Is that so?” Luna noticed that he acted a bit unusual she continued. “Well, apparently, he has black hair and golden eyes. Now that’s very rare in this kingdom, don’t you think?.” Alum, who realized it was him she was referring to, started to relax. “You’re quite easy to read sometimes, aren’t you?” The Princess told him. “Well, It was love at first sight… please don't tease me.” Alum couldn’t believe he got teased like this by a younger girl. “Don’t you have anyone you like, Princess Luna?” Luna, who didn’t think Alum would ask her that, just sipped her tea. “Well, I can’t say I’ve thought about it. My parents sometimes ponder if I will ever get a fiance.” After saying that, she gave Alum the book, she had been holding. “Here, read this and tell me what you think once you finish it.” He received the heavy-looking book and began to flip through some of the pages. “This is… basic magic and mana control?” Luna was impressed. “Wow, you understood that from reading some pages? Could it be your Unique Skill?” Alum was also unsure. Ever since he came to this world, he just felt different.

“I also think that is the case, although I’m not sure what else it applies to. But the few pages I read were awe-inspiring. Are you perchance the one who wrote this Princess Luna?” Luna blushed a bit. She had never shown the book to anyone outside her family. “Yes, I thought it may be useful since you will study alone. I want to see how effective it is as educational material.” Alum thanked her.

A while later, Luna asked Alum if he had seen any assassins since the incident. To which he replied that he hadn’t seen too many. “I see, but are you sure you are fine?” She asked. Alum was troubled by the assassins showing up whenever he was alone in the city. But most of them are taken care of by the spies that followed him. “Well. I’m fine; the spies do a great job, keeping them away.” She knew that Alum's demeanor didn’t change much. (But… still, did he not worry at all?) She then continued. “To think those underground thugs would mess with you just because you came across their murder scene.” Alum just shrugged it off. “Well, the person laying dead seemed important, so that’s a given.” Said Alum. “He was a military agent going undercover. He was selling military secrets and a double agent, so to speak.” Luna said calmly. “He got found out and assassinated, huh?”Alum commented. Luna smiled and said.

“Hadn’t it been for you accidentally stumbled upon it, we would have never known he was a double agent. But you were lucky that uncle Rigeld was the one tailing you at the time.” Alum sighed and looked at the Princess. “You and me both know he used that as an excuse to slack off work.” Luna softly laughed. “Now, now. Don't be so harsh on the frail old man.” Alum couldn’t understand. (Frail old man… Is he, though?) He thought and said. “Well, he did save my life.” Luna was all smiles and couldn’t help but comment. “Well, you did give him more paperwork. So I guess he made more work himself?” Alum did find the irony funny and softly chuckled alongside Luna.
