Chapter 20: The Phoenix Quest

Merle's POV.

It has been three days since we were saved from the hobgoblins. I had regained my purple magic stone and was beginning to feel like my usual self. I had already explained the situation of Elise's squad to Mr Harold. He was hesitant to help at first since we only had about 20 days to find the Phoenix's feathers or Ray would die but he eventually changed his mind since it was not in his nature to abandon those who are in need of help. He decided to split the group into two; those who will help Elise with her quest and those who will continue with the search for the elusive phoenix and its nest.

Trina and I were to help Elise with her quest while Mr Harold and the remaining group were to continue with the search. We began the search for the Mandrake early in the morning. Elise's squad, Trina and I walked around the forest slaying every monster we could find. The search for the mandrake continued for about four days. We finally found the mandrake on the fifth day. But we were ambushed by some orcs. The battle with the AA class monsters began. This time I did not give the monsters a chance to defeat me. I prepared my most powerful combo spells for utmost versatility and flexibility. I made use of every element and did not give the orcs chance to do anything. Trina did the same thing in that she did not even give the orcs a chance to attack. She took them out with utter skill, precision and mobility. She was killing them at such a fast rate that Everybody was left in awe. I was just glad that Trina and I were in the same team cause I would hate to be her enemy. Trina is said to be the strongest person in the barony. She could even defeat Mr Harold if she wanted to. Although I have spent a couple of years with Trina she is still a mystery to me. She is usually silent and secretive. I once heard that she is a very powerful fire mage although I have never seen her perform any elemental spells. It is said that she is of the demonic race but nobody actually knows which type of demon she is. This is because although she is a demon she is using some type of magic to mask her appearance since she appears to look human to Everybody around her. Although she is secretive and strong it is said that she is also kind. I myself am not sure since I usually do not converse with her that much. We finally found the Mandrake we had been searching for but the monster itself looked like it had been killed. There was a flower on its head but it looked like it was dying

Trina then said that she could try using her blood to revive the monster. I was shocked since I never knew that she had such capabilities. It is said that only high ranking demons have the ability to revive and control monsters. When Elise found out that Trina is a demon. She started being wary of her. Trina poured her blood on the mandrake and the mandrake began regaining its colour. The flower on its head seemed to be rejuvenated and was now blooming. Trina then commanded the mandrake to give Elise the flower and then leave without showing us any hostility. Elise took it cautiously. She then looked at Trina hesitantly and thanked her for her help and of they went back to the stokes Kingdom. Trina then told me that she had to go back to the demon land to look for something. She informed me that she had already informed Mr Harold of the situation and got permission for it. I was a little bit alarmed since she was leaving us during a very important quest but I could not oppose her since it was what she wanted to do. I went back to meet up with the other group after tracking them with Mana track and Mana search. This was a gamble since I was not sure if they had left the 3000 horse strides range but luckily they had not. In no time I was back with them.  We resumed our quest right after I was welcomed back. I was still wondering what was so important for Trina to take care of that she had to go back to the demon realm. It was only after we met back at Mr Harold's mansion that I came to know of what importance it was for Trina to go back to the demon realm.

Elise's POV

After we were rescued by the mage whom I came to know was called Miss Merle and her companions, they feed us and gave us recovery potions which rejuvenated our strength. My traumatized companions were feeling a lot better and were ready to continue with the mission. Miss Merle then told someone who seemed to be the leader of the party about our situation. Then soon after Miss Merle and another women called Miss Trina joined us. They were to help us with our quest.  After a lot of searching and fighting, we found the mandrake but it was already dead but then Miss Trina revived it. On seeing this I immediately knew she was from the demon race. At first, I was amazed at how strong she was but after realizing she was a demon I started becoming wary of her. She then instructed the monster to give us its flower in the demonic tongue. This then asserted my fears of her being a demon. When the monster approached us I was scared, but I told myself if she wanted to kill us she would have already done it since she was extremely strong. I took the flower and hesitantly thanked her. I then set towards the stokes kingdom. Although it's called a kingdom it's actually a dukedom under Duke Vincent Menial who is acting as its monarch. After a few days of travelling on horseback, we finally made it back and presented the flower, which was then made into tea. The Duke's wife Mrs Vivian Menial was soon pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful girl everybody in the Kingdom was overjoyed. She was to be the future monarch of the kingdom. But it was not until the age of seven that we really came to know that she was not entirely human.
