Chapter 18: Swatting Away An Insect

Ariel was walking toward her dorm room.

She heard a voice call her from behind.

"Ariel!"

She turned around to look at the person and her expression turned into utter disgust.

Abel smiled and walked toward her.

Ariel noticed that Abel had three of his subordinates with him. This meant that he didn't have any good intentions for her.

Abel smiled and said "Congratulations! You have shaken the Academy with your spectacular battle in the training hall."

Darell's condition was still fresh in her mind and her face darkened when she was reminded of it.

She asked Abel with a cold tone "What do you want?"

Abel feigned ignorance at her cold tone and replied "I know this isn't the best time to do this but I would like to invite you for a meal at the dining hall. This would help you take your mind off the current circumstances."

Ariel sighed and said, "Are you asking me out on a date?"

Abel smiled and said, "If you want to think of it like that, then I wouldn't mind."

Abel then gestured his subordinates to surround Ariel. They immediately surrounded Ariel to prevent her from walking away.

When Abel heard Darell had been seriously injured, he jumped in joy and instantly ordered his subordinates to look for Ariel and Eric.

When one of his subordinates reported that Eric was nowhere to be found and Ariel was walking alone to the dorms. He hatched his plan as he thought that this was a perfect opportunity for him to force Ariel to accept him.

Ariel saw his subordinates surround her and sighed. She knew what Abel was thinking. She had always rejected Abel for the past 6 years. She had also told him that she likes Eric and would marry him. She thought this would make Abel back off but it made his advances grow bolder. He even tried to kidnap Ariel but he failed to do so. Ariel forgave him because she knew if he tried to kidnap her then Eric would kill him instantly without thinking of any consequences.

Ariel sighed and looked around. She asked Abel " You thought this was a good opportunity to get me, right?"

Abel feigned ignorance and shook his head.

He calmly said "Of course not. I only thought of your well being so I approached you."

Ariel was trying to hold her anger in but her patience had run out.

Her eyes turned white as she used her Hypnosis skill. The subordinates surrounding her stopped and stood around with blank expressions on their faces. 

Abel noticed their expressions and knew something had gone wrong. He slowly backed away but he stopped when he saw Ariel standing in front of him.

She grabbed his neck and raised him upwards. He desperately tried to get out of her hold but her grip tightened further.

" I am not a flower that can be picked up by anyone. I am a sword who does what it wants and cuts down anyone who opposes its path."

She tightened the grip on Abel's neck. Abel's face was turning red and his eyes had become red. He couldn't breathe and he was trying to release himself from her grip.

She said "I am warning you one last time. If you don't stop pestering me, I swear I will hunt down every last one of your family. I won't be bothered by any consequence ."

Abel tried to nod but his eyes rolled upwards and he lost consciousness.

Ariel snorted in disgust and threw him away. He crashed into the wall and fell. She spat on his face and walked away.

She then ordered his subordinates to fight each other and make it look like there had been internal strife here.

The subordinates would come out of the hypnosis after a few minutes which was enough time for the Instructors to arrive.

She sighed and continued her way toward the dorms.

Meanwhile, 

Eric was sitting on the corpse of a rank 04 Stone Tiger. He was casually playing with its head while thinking to himself.

He sighed and got up while keeping the beast core in his pocket.

His gauntlets had been worn out and were dented in many places but he continued using them. 

As blood dripped down his gauntlets, he looked around.

He was surrounded by corpses of beasts which looked like a massacre. Hundreds of beasts' corpses were lying on the ground. The trees had been broken and torn apart and there had been many craters of different sizes on the ground.

Eric had sneaked out of the Academy early morning. Whenever he tried to sleep, he would always dream of them being burnt alive by the Scorched Raven General. So, he got up from his seat without alarming anybody. He sneaked out and made his way into the nearby forest. 

The forest was called The Forbidden Forest because many strange beasts would sneak attack the adventures and hunters in the forest and kill them. So, they made sure only people who could defeat a rank 06 beast would enter this forest.

Eric entered the forest without thinking of anything else and started butchering any beast he laid his eyes on.

He muttered to himself.

"Why? 

 Why did he have to take that extreme step?

 Is he afraid of others making fun of him?"

He shook his head firmly because he knew Darell didn't care about what others thought of him.  As long as he didn't do something with which his family would be sad, he was alright. He never looked down on people and always treated them equally. He wasn't like Abel or the other noble kids and their families who would always look down on lower noble families and treated commoners as if they were their servants. 

Eric sighed and went further into the forest to look for beasts.

He continued butchering the beast for a few hours. 

He was thinking to himself while killing the beasts. But, he didn't realize that he was being watched by someone.

He had a weird feeling for a second but it disappeared as soon as it appeared.

He looked up at the sky and noticed that the sun was going to set soon.

He stopped and went out of the forest.

He sneakily entered the Academy and walked towards the medicine hall.

He entered the medicine hall and noticed Emma, Lilith, and Ariel sitting around Darell and talking among themselves.

They noticed him but they didn't say anything as they knew that Eric was just coping with his frustration.

Eric sat with them and they continued talking while waiting for Darell to wake up.
