The carriages of students and instructors arrived at the destination. The dungeon was located in the westernmost region of the kingdom. There was a town built around it.

One by one everybody stepped down from the carriages and gathered at the entrance of the dungeon.

Instructor Athena ordered the students, "Return back here after you have settled down in your rooms. You have two hours to do so. Now, go!"

Everyone hurried to the nearby inns to get the rooms.

Athena turned around and stared at the dungeon entrance.

This dungeon was a rank 05 dungeon. Of course, this dungeon was not supposed to be cleared by the first years but if they chose a rank 03 dungeon then some of the students would clear it easily which would give them a false superiority.

So, to prevent such things, they chose a much higher-ranked dungeon to make the competition more difficult.

The Temple Of Sunless Terror was the dungeon's name. This dungeon was very troublesome to conquer because of its terrain and certain characteristics.

First of all, this dungeon only allowed entry to individuals who have learned rank 03 spells or lower even though it was a rank 05 dungeon.

Normally, every dungeon in the world had an entry restriction to cut off any form of cheating. It was as if they were saying, 'If you want the rewards, then you should agree to my conditions.'

This restriction was very beneficial for the commoners and lower nobility. Also, the high nobility used such restrictions to train their future generations.

The dungeons had a restriction such that only individuals with lower-ranked spells could attempt to clear it.

For example, a rank 08 dungeon would allow entry to only individuals who have learned rank 07 or lower spells.

But, this dungeon was an exception.

Next, it was the terrain of this dungeon.

Just like the name, the dungeon was really 'sunless' because there was no illumination inside it except some poorly-lit candles which were placed every 20 feet.

This gave it an extremely eerie and ominous aura and any individual with a weak mindset would succumb to the eerie and ominous aura and go berserk.

Also, it was extremely dangerous because, without any illumination, the people attempting to clear it would fail to see the oncoming attacks from the monsters.

The temperature of the dungeon aside from its lack of illumination was cold. This provided it another troublesome characteristic.

This dungeon was actually inhabited by pisapiens as a stronghold. They used this dungeon as their home and protected it from other creatures.

But, after the catastrophe, they were killed by it but some survived. Those who survived tried to get out of the dungeon but they were instantly burnt upon coming in contact with the sunlight.

Eventually, the dungeon was left empty by its original inhabitants.

The pisapiens were fish-like humanoids who lived thousands of years ago. They were a type of monstrous humanoids like minotaurs, lizardmen, etc.

They loved to live in aquatic regions or they also loved to live underground away from the sunlight.

They spoke the aquan tongue and they had a lifespan of 50 years.

They were a piscine race of warm-blooded and amphibious creatures that dwelt in the aquatic waters.

Pisapiens were normally 5 feet tall and weighed approximately 160 pounds. Contrasting with their paunchy shape were their arms and legs, slender and lithe despite their relative shortness.

At the end of each limb were broad, distended, and partially webbed hands and feet. Each extremity had three main digits and one opposing digit at its end.

Topping their bodies were bullet-shaped, fish-like heads having a mouthful of sharp teeth and a pair of bulging silver-black eyes capable of independently swiveling to observe any direction.

Their bodies were covered in gray scales with greenish undertones in males, which could vary in pigmentation based on their emotional state, such as a red when angered and a ghostly white when terrified.

Coating their rubbery skin and fish-like scales was a layer of slippery slime that gave their bodies a glimmering sheen.

Normally the only clothing that they wore were leather straps to hold their gear since their slime made conventional armor and leather highly uncomfortable although some donned armor made of seashells.

A light stench of rotten fish was exuded from their bodies.

They were extremely dubious, capable of betraying for their own benefit as long as they could do it successfully.

Pisapiens were an amphibious race, capable of operating with equal or greater mobility underwater as they could on land. The slime produced by their skin was also fairly useful,  allowing them to escape from most attempts to restrain them.

"Instructor Athena! The students have arrived."

Athena snapped out of her thoughts and turned around to see the students who were going to compete in the competition.
