The Villainess Summoner’s Second Apocalypse

The apocalypse is not a time for heroes.

This is a lesson Athena learned early on during the first time she encountered an apocalypse. Heroes don’t live long in an age where morals and ethics are nothing more than empty phrases. Heroes are betrayed. They suffer. They die. In the cruel, unjust world, being heroic and selfless rarely got you a good ending. Those who try to protect everyone will only end up losing everything.

Athena didn't want to be a hero. She wanted to live, and she was willing to do whatever it took.

For 50 years, Athena lied and schemed and betrayed. She did what had to be done with no sympathy or mercy. She betrayed allies. She butchered innocents. She waged war after war against the enemies of her empire. Legions were wiped out under her command. Factions were shattered and destroyed. Families were torn.

And her methods paid off in the end. After 50 years, humanity, under her lead, regained control of Earth once again.

Villain. That was what countless of her foes called her before their execution. To this, Athena could only scoff. Villain or not, she was the one standing and they were the ones about to meet their end. She, the villain, kept her followers more or less safe and alive. They, on the other hand, only got their families and followers spots right next to them on the chopping block.

And then, one day, she died.

Perhaps it was the will of the dark gods. Perhaps it was the cruel twist of fate. Athena didn't get the long rest she hoped for. Instead, she found herself in another world, facing another apocalypse.
