There are no monsters in the dark.

Are you sitting at the dining table with your family? Look around you. How many people are in your family? There’s your mom and your dad, and of course, there is your younger sibling. That’s it. Including you, there should be four people here. So…why are all five seats filled? And…who is the extra person? You point at them and start counting. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. There is an extra person here, but you can’t tell who it is.

So you go back to counting once again.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven.

You know what? Perhaps you should stop counting.

Can you hear the knocking? It is coming from the front door, isn’t it? The gentle, ceaseless sound of someone knocking on the door.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Please, for your own safety, don’t do anything. Don’t say anything. Don’t open the door. Don’t even look through the peephole on the door. Stay right where you are and keep doing whatever it is you were doing.

Sooner or later, one of those knocks will be the last. Sooner or later, the visitor at your door will give up and leave. That is the only way you will survive.
