Approaching the cave with Aina. Moving silently and carefully, I followed Aina's lead.
Beastmen, compared to humans and vampires, have natural abilities well-suited for the wild. They could locate the goblin's patrol grid with their keen senses of smell and hearing, and Aina led the way into the cave.
"Leave it to me."
"Yes."
Even though Aina told me to leave it to her, that doesn't mean my job is just to stand around and watch.
This fight doesn't need to last long. Our goal is to take down the Hobgoblin. The other beasts can be buried alive by the landslide.
Aina was also mindful of avoiding any unnecessary fights.
When she stopped in front of us and raised her index finger to her lips, I shut my mouth and followed her lead.
Two goblins passed in front of us, hidden in the shadows.
Goblins often build their nests in caves, but they are not strictly nocturnal. Because they can't see in complete darkness, fires are lit all around the cave. This allowed us to keep an eye on our surroundings.
"......there’s a fork in the road."
After walking for a while, we came to a fork in the road.
Both paths stretched out in either direction, and there was no way of telling which one was the right one in the darkness.
"This way. It smells bad."
Aina chose the correct path.
Three goblins jumped out at us as we entered the fork in the road.
"Aina!"
“You’re in charge of this path.”
She entrusted it to me.
Receiving Aina's instructions, I immediately took the knife from my waist.
Before registering with the guild, Aina told me to "keep it with you" and gave it to me. I lightly slashed my hand with the knife and let the blood flow.
"Bloody Arts - 《Bloody Scythe!》."
The crimson blood that shot out from my hand took on the shape of a scythe and pierced through the goblin's body rushing towards me.
Another one. I can take it down.
Much faster than I had anticipated, it was defeated.
After this, there is a fight against Hobgoblin. I do want to reduce Aina's burden as much as possible. So I targeted the second goblin, but...
"It's over."
Aina calmly announced.
She had just finished kicking the second goblin to death.
Her kick had such tremendous power that the goblin's body was blown away without breaking into pieces, and it smashed against the wall in front of me, creating a red splatter.
"......As expected, you're a promising rookie with the Tenmei Troupe."
I said, not changing my expression, as I looked at the two downed goblins.
"You're amazing too. To be able to use 《Bloody Arts》 even though it's only usable by a select few vampires."
"...Is that so?" I was hearing this for the first time.
"Only vampires of royal blood and those who have received special training can use it. It's like the sword skills of a knight's brigade in human terms."
"...But I was able to use it just fine."
"Is that so?... That's amazing."
Although it might be a compliment, it didn’t feel content.
After that, we fought a few more times against goblins while moving towards the Hobgoblin.
“It’s here,” Aina quietly tells me.
Up to this point, the path had bee up to this pointn narrow, up to this point but the space here was spacious, like a room fit for a king, that showed off its dignity. In the center was a chair made of bones, of all things, assembled with animals and people's bones, and on top of that, a green giant was sitting.
“Hobgoblin”
He was a giant hobgoblin, three meters tall.
“Leave the guards around it to me. Just go straight for Hobgoblin and attack him,” I spoke quietly.
The king-like Hobgoblin has two hobgoblins around him that look like they're guarding him.
“I'm sure of it now. I can take down a hobgoblin, at least.” I nodded at Aina.
“I'm going.”
Aina took off towards Hobgoblin at full speed.
I also approached the two hobgoblins while manipulating my blood to create a weapon with more destructive power.
"Blood Dance"
I solidified the blood and created a weapon with more destructive power.
"Blood Battle Axe"
I swung it at the two hobgoblins.
The weapon smashed into the two hobgoblins, sending them flying into the wall. The Hobgoblin, who had been sitting on the throne, was shocked and stood up in a hurry.
The sound of a collision between two metal objects reverberated like that of a child banging on a metal drum.
Aina's protruding claws were deflected by a large sword the Hobgoblin held.
"Tch."
She retreated once with a bitter expression.
Goblins can wield weapons, but because their body type is closer to that of a child, most of the time, their weapons are small, like clubs or daggers. However, this Hobgoblin had a large body above that of an ordinary man. The power of the giant sword he swings is quite troublesome.

(I wish I could help, but...)
With the start of the battle against Hobgoblin, many Goblins began to gather from around. As expected, considering it was the center of their nest, within moments, nearly ten Goblins had gathered. These Goblins were enough to block Aina's path and keep her from escaping the cave.
If the fight continued to drag on, she would be surrounded by Goblins and trapped inside the cave.
Aina glanced at me for a moment, confirming the state of the battle, before--
She was sent flying by a large sword that Hobgoblin had swung at her and landed on the ground with a thud.
"Aina!?"
I ran over to her, panicked.
"......I was careless. That individual is stronger than I thought."
Aina muttered, blood dripping from her mouth.
It seemed that she had reduced the impact somewhat with her arms, but she had a large wound. It looked like she had been attacked from her waist to her stomach, and the fabric of her clothes was torn there. On her soft belly, there was a large bruise.
"It would be better to retreat for now--"
"There's no problem. I'll recover quickly." Aina says this, and, as she predicted, the wound on her abdomen starts to heal visibly.
The Beastmen have high physical abilities due to their race, including a high natural healing ability.
Aina is right; she'll recover quickly. But it doesn't happen instantly.
"In the meantime, can you please keep them back?"
"Yeah, I guess. That's all we can do, isn't it...ugh!"
The goblins are getting closer. I take a moment to assess the situation.
In addition to the Hobgoblins, there are now nearly ten Goblins running towards us. My only ally is Aina, who is currently unable to fight. I have to take care of all of these enemies in front of me.
"Kale...KALE!."
Aina called out to me, cold sweating while lying on the ground.
"The Beastmen's race characteristic is that the more they fall, the stronger they become."
"Fall...?"
"To entrust yourself to your instincts." She says.
"Beastmen are not like humans. Therefore, they don't need a human heart."
It's a somewhat vague statement. But I get the gist of it.
The Goblins kept getting closer, screaming. I twist my waist and grip my giant blood-soaked axe with both hands.
"--Bloody Axe, 《Bloody Battle Axe》!"
The goblins in the front row were blown away and collided with another individual in the back row.
However, I have become too reckless in order to protect Aina. The goblins get back up and come closer again.
I'm not human now. I'm a vampire.
I think about this as I manipulate blood and use my Bloody Scythe to cut through the goblins closing in on me. The hobgoblins were getting impatient with my men. The hobgoblin swung his greatsword.
The crimson scythe deflects the sword's path.
(A subhuman is not a human being. Therefore, they do not need a human heart.)
While fighting, I remember Aina's words. I chew on them in my mind.
Aina's words spread through every corner of my mind. I don't know why, but I feel like they are the truth now. It's as if the last piece of the puzzle has fit into place.
The reason is a Fetter. That means...
I've been fighting with human emotions and thoughts, but...
I need to rely on my instincts.
Instincts interpret Aina's words correctly.
I sink deep into the watery depths of my conscioussness. I feel like I'm falling into an infinite abyss.
“Ah, I see. So this is what it means to fall.”
In red eyes that looked like fresh blood. Sharp teeth, except for the lips. Stern wings.
It looked like a solid form.
"The "Bloody Arts of Dance"--"
I gazed upon the prey in front of me, feeling comfortable. It felt like I was chanting something.
The next moment, I felt power swelling up inside me.
And then--
"--Huh?"
I noticed that--
In front of me was a pile of corpses of Goblins. All the Goblins that had come running over-- even the Hobgoblins-- were all dead.
Every one of them had died with their chest pierced, or their body was blown away. The Hobgoblin had his head chopped off, and his greatsword was broken in two, right down the middle.
Everywhere, there was evidence of a gruesome battle.
I had no idea what had happened.
"It's true..."
Aina's eyes widened, and she muttered something to herself that made no sense.
"You really are the--"
