Chapter 21: Chapter 21 – Information About the Man with the Tattoo

“Halle Hardrock. Twenty-eight years old. He is a sub captain of the city guards and recently became a Core Formation Practitioner.” Adora said while showing Vlad a sketch of the man. “His parents died several years ago, and he doesn’t have siblings. His only family is his wife, Marie Littlecloud, who is the daughter of the owner of a store in the city. But I heard that the relationship between Halle and his wife is a bit strained because Marie has been unable to have children.

“I also got information about Halle’s residence, his workplace, and his work hours. Right, according to my investigations, he has several lovers besides his wife, but their relationship is not deep enough to be considered important. Either way, I prepared a list with the names and the information of the lovers I found out.”

After that, Adora gave Vlad a couple of papers containing the detailed information that she found, including sketches of Halle, Marie, and his lovers.

Vlad was pleasantly surprised.

This was much better than he expected.

He did not have high expectations when he asked Adora to investigate the man with the tattoo on his arm and only expected her to find out his name and perhaps the place where he lived. However, Adora did not just find that, she also found almost everything about his life.

Vlad got the feeling that if he gave Adora a couple of days more, she could discover even Halle's most guarded secrets.

“Are you satisfied with the information?” Adora asked with a calm expression.

Vlad smiled slightly.

“It looks like I underestimated you. Yes, this information is more than enough.”

“Then, can I expect a good pay?”

Vlad said nothing and took out ten gold coins from his pouch, putting them on the table.

“Are you satisfied with this much?”

“… Satisfied.” Adora nodded after a brief moment of stupor. She hurriedly put the gold coins in her pouch as though she was afraid of Vlad taking them back.

Even though it was less than what Vlad gave her for saving his life, it was still a lot of money. Enough for her and her sister to survive the entire year if they lived frugally.

“You sure are generous. Are all nobles like that?”

“I think your information was worth it. Plus, it will be great if it motivates you to work harder in the next task.”

Adora’s eyes immediately narrowed.

“What do you want this time?”

Vlad stared straight into Adora's eyes for several seconds and spoke up.

“You must know a lot about the forces in the capital, right?”

“… A bit. What do you need to know?”

“I want all the information about the powerhouses on the Core Accumulation realm and above you can find.”

Adora was startled.

“You are asking for a lot.” She wrinkled her brows and tapped the table a couple of times as though she was organizing her thoughts. “I can find the information about the practitioners in the slums and the surroundings, but I won’t be of much help for the rest.”

“That is enough.” Vlad nodded. Anyway, he only needed to find enough targets for his promotion mission. The reason he asked for information about all the forces in the capital was to stop Adora from grasping his true goal.

While they were talking about the details of the request, Laura came out of the kitchen carrying several dishes.

“Breakfast is ready.” She said cheerfully as she served the breakfast. “It’s mashed potatoes with cheese and a bit of bacon I got from the butcher. I hope you like it.”

“I don’t think I can dislike anything made by you.” Vlad chuckled, making Laura blush and Adora glare at him in annoyance.

Vlad was amused. He was not sure why, but he found it fun to tease the two sisters.

Seeing Laura blushing and Adora glaring at him in displeasure put him in a good mood. It made him forget about his revenge for a while.

But at that moment, his ears caught a noise that destroyed his good mood.

Adora was surprised when she saw him frown all of a sudden, but then, her expression also changed.

One second later, someone knocked on the door.

Adora’s eyes immediately became cold.

She stopped her little sister from going to open the door and stood up instead.

“Do you need help?” Vlad asked, but Adora shook her head.

“I can take care of this by myself.”

Vlad nodded and continued eating breakfast. He noticed that Laura was a bit anxious, so he smiled at her to calm her down and focused his senses on Adora in case anything happened.

Anyway, the two sisters saved his life. If he could, he did not mind helping them a bit.

At the door, Adora was confronting two men.

One of them was the man that came to collect the debt two days ago. This time, though, he was standing respectfully behind a stern-looking two-meter-tall man.

“I think you know why I am here, Adora.”

“Kevin.” Adora’s expression was dark. “Did the boss send you?”

“What do you think? You know that the boss doesn’t like it when people owe him money.”

“I paid a part two days ago, didn’t I?”

“That is not enough, and you know it. Now, you have two options. Either you give us the money, or we will find ways to get it.” He said while looking in Laura’s direction.

But in the next instant, his expression changed.

An immense killing intent assaulted him, making him grab the sword on his waist instinctively.

At the same time, the man following him became pale and took two steps backward.

“Don’t you dare to touch my sister, otherwise, I will kill you.”

The man smirked. “… Then pay up.”

Adora’s eyes became as cold as ice. Gusts of wind started to circle around her, and a knife appeared on her hand.

“It looks like you want to give it a go, huh.” The two-meter-tall man smirked, and his muscles tensed up as his body readied for battle.
