The morning was bright and clear, and the air had a distinct chill. As Elizabeth Burton inhaled, she could feel the frosty breeze fill her lungs, causing her to stop breathing for a few seconds. This, coupled with the apprehension of travelling alone, did nothing to calm or reassure her. Whilst she was completely are of why she must make this journey, her heart felt heavy at leaving her beloved father with fear, by dreary Elenore.

The carriage slowed slightly as it entered through the elaborate stone gateway. Deep breaths took her mind off home and regulated her heartbeat as the carriage ventured through the extensive avenue. A sudden bright light enveloped the carriage and signalled the accent to St. Law's Castle: her home for the foreseeable future. Turning her head, she gazed expectantly towards the top of the hill. Shortly she was rewarded with a glimpse of a turret swiftly followed by the breath-taking view of the stunning architecture bathed in spring dawn.

The coachman halted the vehicle at the grand steps of the east-facing entrance, and his junior disembarked, opening the door for the passenger.

As the carriage halted, Lord Horace Harvey-Kengisngton's face lit up as if to reflect the dawn. He hadn't seen young Lily since the Christmas party at the Burton household. Lily was always a joy to be with, and he was thrilled to meet her again.

Mr Carter swiftly opened the door and greeted the guest. He instructed the coachman to unload the luggage, and two staff members hurried forward to collect the trunk and cases. Once her bonnet and coat were taken, Lily was ushered into the morning room and was asked to wait for her host.

"My dearest young Lily, how was the journey from London? It is such an awfully long way; I couldn't do that in my old age." Lord Horace announced as he swept through the vase door, extending his arms towards Lily.

"Well, the first two days were exhausting, but this final leg has been very scenic along the coast."

Lord Horace smiled, "Mr Carter will show you to your room so you can change and freshen up for breakfast. Mrs Butcher has been perfecting your favourite, Kedgeree."

"Thank you, Horace; we will talk again soon," Elizabeth remarked as she followed Mr Carter up to her room.

When Mr Carter finally left her, she began a brief exploration of her chamber: she was immediately drawn to the window. Moulded onto the edge of the frame, the carvings were exquisite. Each pain of glass was surrounded by hundreds of hours of skilled craftsmanship. As she stepped backwards, she appreciated the refined design of the carpenter's working eye. She looked up to survey the view and was honoured with the most majestic aspect.

The bay was just visible beyond the glass-covered hill. Where the rocky outline shimmered and nestled at the top of the beach, she could see some of the fishermen's houses. White horses rode gallantly upon the golden sand, and a small smile blossomed across her face.
