"You have a lovely home kid." Everleigh spoke with a small smile that made the bodyguards bristle even though Marcus said it was fine because who would dare to address him this way?
"Thanks to you. If you didn't give me that chance thirty years ago, I would have died in some ditch somewhere." Marcus chuckled ruefully while the bodyguards stared blankly.
Just by looking, Everleigh couldn't be older than twenty four, but Marcus said he met her over thirty years ago? Everleigh gave them a glance but didn't comment and instead looked at the hall they now stood in.
"How is Mia?" Everleigh didn't hide herself from Marcus' mother back then, so Mia knew Everleigh pretty well, even if she didn't know everything, she knew that they were saved by her.
"Mom is fine, she started a clothing business a few years back and it's doing pretty well now." Marcus didn't ask anything and answered all of Everleigh's questions patiently.
"Oh, that's good. So these are your people?" Everleigh gave the two bodyguards a look and then focused on Marcus who nodded a bit proudly with a proud smile.
"Yes, I can trust them with my life." Marcus spoke firmly but Everleigh didn't respond, instead choosing to find a chair to sit on and then sitting down elegantly.
"Then do they know of our little secret?" Everleigh asked calmly because although Marcus wasn't told directly she was a vampire, he still dealt with the bodies she left drained.
"I had them help with the last one so they are aware." Marcus spoke carefully when Everleigh once again stared at them, but their reactions didn't change much.
"Oh? I know I didn't expressly say to keep it a secret, but I hope you are careful, if not for my sake, but for yours." Everleigh saw the two men behind Marcus get angry but didn't care much.
"Yes yes, I know you like to remain undetected." As Marcus had dealt with Everleigh before, he knew although she was often cold, she wouldn't usually do something without a valid reason.
"Apologies sir, but if not for your acts, would sir have to clean up behind you like this?" Before Marcus could stop him, the bodyguard spoke angrily because if Marcus was found to have hidden a corpse by the public, not even his money could save him.
"Enough! Everleigh? Please don't take what he said to heart." Marcus spoke with a pleading tone when Everleigh shifted her gaze to the one who spoke and then back to Marcus.
"They seem to cherish you very much." When Everleigh's words fell, Marcus sighed in relief because he knew nothing good ever came of anyone who offended Everleigh, ever.
"Yes." Marcus said with a forced smile. It wasn't a hard leap to know why Everleigh suddenly contacted him out of the blue to dispose of bodies and now that she looked the same despite the passage of three decades, he couldn't help but take guesses.
"Did anyone start investigating the disappearances?" Everleigh asked as if the situation was not her problem in the slightest making the bodyguards wonder how even if she was beautiful, why Marcus would do something like this as they didn't believe she was more than thirty years old.
"Some reports from my contact in the station, but nothing concrete." Marcus poured Everleigh a glass of wine and smiled slightly when she picked up the glass and swirled it elegantly.
"Your people seem dissatisfied with me." Although it was just a simple statement, Marcus felt his heart thumping because although Everleigh was who allowed him to rise, she could just as easily make him fall.
"Nevermind that. Mia?" Everleigh asked, noting his thumping heart and inwardly rolled her eyes. Sure, she had enough money to drown him in, but that would imply Everleigh actually attached importance to him.
"My mother is fine. She went out earlier. While you were gone, my father came looking several times trying to 'reunite' our family." Marcus spoke with a disgusted tone.
"Did you let him?" Although she didn't seem interested, Marcus didn't ever recall seeing Everleigh interested in anything and just assumed she was always like that.
"Him? No. When he abandoned my mother and I back then to start a new family, he lost the right to be my father." Even the bodyguards could hear Marcus' anger and disdain.

"Mia is back." Everleigh glanced at the hall and then looked at her phone, a masterpiece of a device costing over ten thousand and was customized to her exact wishes.
"Son!" An energetic voice came and a woman in her late forties walked in, her jeans and blue blouse making her look youthful but at the same time elegant.
"Everleigh?!" Mia spoke with disbelief because thirty years ago, she had seen Everleigh leave, and didn't expect to see her again after such a long time.
"Hello Mia." Everleigh greeted while raising her glass slightly. When the bodyguards decided that even though she had some background, she was too arrogant, Mia hurried over and sat besides her and held Everleigh's hands tightly.
"You look well." Everleigh smiled because back then, she allowed Mia to drink her blood to heal her body, and a side effect was the increased lifespan she now had that left her looking in her forties despite being in her late fifties.
"When Marcus got married, I wanted to send an invitation, but I didn't know whether I could reach you." Mia looked at Marcus with reproach because although she liked her daughter-in-law, she also felt that Marcus should have searched for her.
"Married?" Everleigh felt her lips twitch as she frowned. Even though Everleigh didn't care much, she knew the original Everleigh had told Marcus to choose wisely.
"Yes, he even has a daughter." Mia spoke without minding Everleigh's facial changes. Marcus wanted to speak, but was stunned when he saw a genuine smile for what may have been the first time on Everleigh's face.
"That's good." Although he did get married, if Everleigh said it was a problem, then Marcus would resent her secretly if not openly, so it was better to just accept it.
"You should introduce me sometime." Everleigh stood and placed the glass on the coffee table and gave Marcus a look with a small smile. Seeing she didn't reject the marriage, he secretly sighed in relief.
"They'll be back soon, maybe an hour at most. If you want, you can stay until then?" Before Marcus could offer, Mia already spoke and squeezed Everleigh's hands in happiness when she agreed.
"Does she know?" Everleigh asked Marcus while looking at Mia, and wasn't surprised when Marcus shook his head. If Mia knew, it would be hard to say what she'd do as she was quite righteous.
"Seeing as you didn't elaborate, I can only guess that you don't want me to know." If it were anyone else, perhaps Mia would ask or look into it, but to Everleigh, she didn't even think of it.
"You can go busy yourselves, I'll be fine." Everleigh waved a hand to shoo them out and both Mia and Marcus could only smile helplessly because she rarely had company even thirty years ago.
...
"Sir? Are we just going to let her do as she pleases? With your involvement, you could be incriminated and lose everything." A bodyguard spoke from outside but was cut off by Marcus.
"Back then, not only would my mother have died, I would have as well. Even if she asked me to give her back what she gave me, I'd do it gladly." Marcus' tone was final.
A few minutes passed and an engine drew near and then fell silent. Because she wasn't interested in too much small talk, she stopped paying attention and sipped her wine while watching the one hundred inches TV.
"Everleigh?" Marcus knocked politely and then opened the door with both Mia and two other females in tow. Everleigh glanced at them silently and then looked at Marcus.
"What a beautiful wife." Hearing Everleigh's praise, Marcus smiled and his wife who hadn't seen Everleigh before was shocked when she saw her usually stoic husband smiling.
