Riel and I arrived at section B in no time at all.
Then all it took was a matter of using one of the public terminals to get directions, and in no time at all we were in front of the entrance to the Rockveil station Mercenary Guild branch office.
Standing outside of the guild entrance I looked at several people coming and going.
While some of them looked like typical mercenary-types, others not so much.
I see one woman dressed like a nun, while I see another person wearing a futuristic full body suit.
I am not kidding here.
But, despite these people colorful choice in outfits I can tell just by looking at them they are dangerous and not to be trifled with.
So I won't.
Because I'm not an idiot.
I simply minded my own business and entered the guild, with Riel by my side.
Then as soon as I did so I realized I was still holding Riel's hand, so I let go.
As I did so I noticed her pouting slightly.
'Cute.' I thought. She's disappointed I stopped holding her hand.
I really want to pat the top of her head at this moment but I'll resist the urge since we're in public.
However once we get back to Pleiades I'll give her some affection.
Since AI's are alive after all. They have thoughts and emotions as well.
So yeah, it's cuddle time once we get back to the ship.
I waited a moment for Riel to get back to normal.
Once she did so the two of us walked up to the reception counter, finding a young woman standing there.
"Hello, how may I help you today?" She asked me.
"Yes, I would like to register as a mercenary." I told her.
"No problem." The girl said.
She then handed me a tablet from behind the counter.
After she did so I looked at it, and saw a information I needed to fill out.
Name:
Age:
Sex:
Race:
And that's it.
Nothing else.
I guess it's because some people who become mercenaries like to keep their private affairs very private.
Well I'm actually in that category as well considering my own origins, that's why I'm not complaining about this super easy form.
"Just fill out this form sir, and once you do you'll officially be a member of the mercenary guild." The woman explained to me.
I nodded. "Right, thank you. But one question. What does it mean by race?"
Since there are no known species of aliens in this world. Also racial discrimination died out centuries ago in this world. So I am curious what it is about.
"That just means let us know if you are human or an AI." The woman explained.

"If I am an AI would that affect my standing in the guild?" I questioned.
"Not at all." The woman told me.
"I see." I said. "Ok then."
I filled out the form quickly and then handed the tablet back over to the woman.
Once I did so she pressed several buttons on it and then held it up towards my face.
"Hold still please sir, I need to capture an image of your face." The woman told me.
I nodded.
I then waited as my face was scanned from top to bottom by a beam from the tablet.
The whole process only took five seconds.
Once this ended the woman connected the tablet to the terminal in front of her and then a few moments later reached under the counter and then handed me a transparent card with my picture on it. As well with all the information I had I just filled out on the tablet.
"And there you are Mr. Trifas. You are now officially a member of the mercenary guild. That is your guild card. It will allow you to access any branch of the mercenary guild no matter where you may travel in space." The woman explained to me. "It also functions as a valid form of ID just about anywhere. Also, even if your card is lost or stolen fear not. No one else will ever be able to use it, and you can simply go to any mercenary guild office and request a new one. Now that we have your information on file." She explained to me.
"I see. Thank you." I told her.
I then placed my card in my pocket and said goodbye to the woman, moving away from the counter with Riel.
"Wren, now we have a way to earn money." Riel said.
"Yes, we sure do." I said. "Again, nice job on finding this place."
"Thank you." Riel happily said. "So then, what should we do next?"
"First things first. Let's find us a job to earn some credits." I said.
Since walking around in this place without any money makes me a bit depressed.
Riel nodded at my words.
Once she did so we moved over to one of the unoccupied wall terminals and I began searching the list of jobs to help us make a decent amount of credits in a relatively short time.
Eventually I find one.
A protection/escort job.
A collection of local mining ships wants to be escorted to a nearby asteroid field and back, and protected while they collect their materials.
From the details of the job it seems attack from a particular group of raiders that have set up in the area are on the rise.
They call themselves the Crimson Wolves.
Which I will admit is a pretty nice name.
But disregarding that the pay for the job isn't bad.
2 million credits.
Seeing this and taking into the account all the other details I accepted the job.
Then as soon as I did so I contacted Rion on Pleiades and transmitted all the relevant details to him.
Once I did so Riel and I immediately left the mercenary guild and started making our way back to the ship to prepare.
The job we accepted starts in only a few hours after all.
So we got to be ready, and not mess up in our debut as mercenaries.
That would definitely leave a bad taste in my mouth.
