We made it back to the ship in no time at all.
Once we arrived we joined up with Rion and headed straight for the meeting room to go over the finer details of the mission.
Sitting at the head of the table I pulled up all the data, and projected it for all to see.
"It's a rather simple mission. We are to escort four mining ships to a nearby asteroid field approximately ten hours away from Rockveil station. After we do so we will patrol and guard the general area for a week straight while they collect their materials. Then we will escort them back to Rockveil station." I explained. "Half the payment will be given as soon as the mission begins. While the other half will be deposited once it is over. Any questions?"
Riel and Rion said nothing.
"Alright then. Let's make any final preparations. We're meeting up with our clients in three hours." I spoke.
The twins nodded.
As they did so I adjourned the meeting and we set about handling any last minute preparations.
Once that was completed I had Rion connect our ships internal network to the Galactic Network.
Since although we will be working, that's not to say we won't have any downtime during this job.
So when we do I plan to research this world more, and see just how similar and how different it is compared to the game.
It's like the old saying goes, knowledge is power.
And I am sorely lacking in knowledge. That's why I need to gain more to properly live a good life in this world.
I also want to make a good life for Rion and Riel as well.
Since from now on they will be my family, and I won't allow anything to endanger my family.
I also want to use the GNet to see if anime is still around.
Really hoping it is.
Moving on, the three hours came and went.
Once the time came for the mission to begin we disengaged from our docking port and headed to the rendezvous point to meet the mining ships.
As soon as we arrived we transmitted our data to the lead ship and established a communications link.
"This is Wren Trifas, captain of the starship Pleiades. We are the ones who accepted your request and will be guarding you over these next few days." I explained.
"Understood." A male voice said. "Transferring the first half of the payment now."
The moment he said this I looked at the holographic screen above my left chair arm and confirmed the payment was transferred into the ship's personal account.
"Payment received." I said.
"Excellent. Let's move out then." The man said.
He then cut the connection of the communications link.
Once he did so his ship and the other four mining ships started heading in the direction of the asteroid field they were getting ready to mine.
While we followed behind them in the rear, our scanners at the maximum range of 2,500 kilometers.
A/N: Changed the range of the scanners. A comment pointed out the previous range was too small and I agreed. So I made it bigger.
The ten hours to the asteroid field passed without incident.
As soon as we arrived the mining ships got to work.
Once they did I stood up and turned to Rion.
"You have the bridge." I told him. "Please alert me if anything happens."
"Sure thing captain." Rion said.
I nodded at his words.
Once I did so I left the bridge and headed for my room. Telling Riel to do the same.
Although she doesn't need physical rest, she does need mental reprieve.
That's why unless absolutely necessary we three will take shifts watching over the miners during this mission.
Reaching my room I took off my holster and placed it on my nightstand.
I then sat down at my desk, and pulled up a holographic screen. Then I accessed the GNet and started my search for anime.
It didn't even take five minutes before the results came up.
Making me smile as I did so.
They do have anime here, and they are the ones I know from my last life.
Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc...
Seeing this the smile on my face grew wider.
It seems that in no matter what universe anime is eternal.
Nice.
Pulling up one of my favorite ones I downloaded it and began watching it.
Saving the rest of the information gathering for later.
Sitting at my desk in my room I looked over information on the holographic screen floating a few inches above my desk.
The week is over.
Tomorrow morning we will escort the mining ships back to Rockveil and collect the second half of our payment. Along with completing our first ever mercenary job.
Which makes me happy.
Since mercenaries are usually judged by their reputations.
That's what I've learned while doing extensive research about this world on the GNet for the past few days when I'm not eating, sleeping, taking my watch shift, or having some sexy time with Riel.
Speaking of her, I think I'll take her out on a date soon.
I don't just want to her to think I only crave her body. No, I like Riel as an individual as well.
Besides, from what I've found on the GNet intimate relationships between humans and AI are not uncommon in this world. As strange as that may sound.
Sometimes love just transcends certain barriers.

I also learned that those apart of the LGBT community are wholeheartedly commonplace in this world and accepted everywhere without any discrimination.
Nothing like my old world.
Another interesting thing I learned is that polygamy is legal as well.
Yeah, harems are a thing here and not just for the rich and powerful. Anyone can have more than one lover.
The future really is wonderful.
Even the star nations of this world are interesting.
I've researched all major regions in this past week.
Let me share with you my findings.
First up is the Goldstar Consortium.
A star nation founded by several mega conglomerates and corporations. Despite their nation being the youngest in the galaxy with only a 1,500 year history, they are not to be trifled with. They control immense wealth across the stars. Everything there is also privatized from the health care to the military. The consortium's core belief is capitalism. Meaning anyone can basically move up so long as they have the means and the drive to do so.
The consortium also has several laws in place protecting the rights of AI's.
Though not everything is sunshine and roses in the consortium.
From what I've been able to piece together there are some areas in that sector of space where the disparity between the rich and the poor is immense.
However that's in the minority rather than the majority.
Their leading body is known as the Executive Council. A group made up of seven CEO's of the most powerful companies in the Consortium at any given time.
Next up is the Rising Sun Empire.
It is a star nation that is 5,000 years old, and from what I have discovered is based on Imperial Japan from my last life.
The nation is ruled by an Emperor and the royal family, who are supported by four clans known as the four noble clans who have existed since the empire was founded. Each of the clans have vassals under them that are assigned to watch and rule over various territories within the empire.
This particular star nation is highly steeped in tradition, they also take familial bonds extremely seriously. The Rising Sun Empire is also semi-isolationist.
Getting into their borders is not impossible, but it is not easy either.
They don't really interact with other much. Even so pissing them off is not a good idea.
Third on our list is the Avalon Empire.
Which is just as old as the Rising Sun Empire, and is also overseen and ruled by a royal family. However the name of Avalon's leader is High King. Also unlike the Rising Sun, Avalon is not an isolationist nation in any regard.
Avalon welcomes trade. They also have a nobility system in place as well.
Fourth on our list of major powers is the Seven Seas Federation.
Which is a collection of seven small star nation that banded together for security and protection.
Coming into existence 2,000 years ago.
The Federation is run by a senate who elects a president to serve a six-year term until they have to repeat the process all over again.
As for their policies, each member state of the Federation has individual laws pertaining to certain issues. But overall they have agreed to several shared laws that span the entire Federation.
Fifth up is the Union of Free Planets.
It is 4,200 years old and is a star nation composed of several hundred planetary systems that have stood the test of time.
They encourage open-trade and the spreading of several different ideals without issue. Really, its a place where everyone can be themselves without fear or worry.
Their central form of government is a council, who elects a chairman to represent them on a galactic scale every four years.
Following them is the final major star nation.
Which is known as the Red Star Confederacy.
A place which I am high pressed to avoid at all costs.
Coming into existence over 2,800 years ago the Confederacy is a highly aggressive nation. They have launched several expansionist campaigns and wars since their founding.
Ruled by a Supreme Chancellor the Confederacy is a communist state from what I can gather.
Their citizens are highly restricted and traffic inside and outside their borders is even worse than the Rising Sun Empire.
Also, the Confederacy has no laws in place protecting the rights of AI's.
So yeah, never want to go there unless I can help it.
Finally we have the area of space where my crew and I currently are.
The Anarchic Zone.
A lawless section of space where anything and everything goes. No star nation interferes with it or tries to control it. As such it is a good hiding place for smugglers and other criminal elements. As well a place for people to escape from their pasts.
Some sections of it are run by warlords.
So those are the seven major powers within space in this world.
The rest is either uncharted territory or filled with scattered small time star communities.
Leaning back in my chair I stretched my arms into the air.
But a moment after I did so I heard Riel's over over the ships internal communication system.
"Master Wren, two ships just dropped out of hyperfold right next to our locations. Scans indicate they are approaching with weapons at the ready."
The moment I heard this I got serious.
I then rushed to the bridge and took my seat in the captain's chair.
"Begin preparations for battles and send a message to the mining ships to appraise them of the situation." I commanded.
Riel and Rion doing exactly as I asked without question.
While they did so I cracked my neck from side-to-side.
We're about to have company after all.
So I want to be at my very best when we greet them.
