“H-He’s…” Jackie trembled, “Y-You killed him?”
“That gent wast the one that lunged at me,” Kuro shrugged, turning toward Jackie, “crossing the bord’r wast his own doing.” Kuro paused. “But whither art mine mann’rs? I am Lady Kuro,” the witch introduced herself, “Thee must beest Luna’s summon’r?”
Jackie froze.
Kuro chuckled and slowly walked towards the human. “Thither is no use trying to hide ‘t…” Kuro grinned, “thee art Jacqueline Wordsworth, art thee not?” Kuro glanced behind her back and snapped her fingers, as the giant dark vortex once again concealed the human realm beyond the borderline. “Telleth me, Jackie… Wherefore didst thee cometh to the bord’r now?”
Kabuki piped up, “She was trying to run away.”
Kuro turned her head to look at the Cyclops. “Ah, Kabuki,” the witch smiled, “my most humble apology. Has’t I been ignoring thee?”
Kuro walked over to Kabuki and uncuffed his wrists.
“Hmph,” Kabuki exhaled, “Took you long enough, Lady Kuro!”
Kuro put her hand on Kabuki’s shoulder and smiled menacingly. “Thee hath play’d the part of mine hostage perfectly.”
“It was nothing,” Kabuki bragged, “that stupid copper wouldn't know a real hostage situation if it bit him in the ass!”
Jackie stared dumbfounded at Kabuki and Kuro.
“How could you say that?!” she cried. “Chekhov was your friend, wasn’t he? He gave his life to try to save you!”
“Shut up, you lying boyfriend-stealer!” Kabuki yelled back. “Vladimir was a nuisance, and so are you!” He paused. “Lady Kuro is my master now…”
“Thee hath heard the Cyclops,” Kuro sneered, “wherefore don't thee just runneth along and asketh that wench Sumire Shakespeare for holp?”
Kuro opened up a vortex beneath her feet and stepped inside, exiting just behind Jackie’s back.
“Or has’t thee finally realised that Shakespeare does not careth about helping thee?”
Jackie jumped back in shock and slowly started backing away from the witch. “O-Of course she’ll help me!” Jackie protested. “S-She’s gonna teach me how to control Luna and w-we’ll stop you!”
Kuro stared blankly at Jackie for a few seconds before throwing her head back and laughing. Kabuki’s eye darted over to his new master and the Cyclops followed her lead in laughing at the poor human girl.
“The only thing that wench doth care about is improving her public image,” Kuro chuckled. “Thou art not even the first kinkind warrior she hath recruited to fight me!"
“Where are the others, then?” Jackie demanded.
“I hath killed those folk all,” Kuro answered.
“Y-You’re lying!” Jackie said, turning to run in the direction of Sumire’s house. “Miss Shakespeare does care about me and we WILL stop you! You’ll see!” Jackie reaffirmed, running away as fast as she could.
Kabuki looked to the borderline and pointed. “What about that blackhole, Lady Kuro?”
“That blackhole wilt remain around Phantasia for as long as Jackie liveth,” Kuro smiled, “we can not has’t that lady making her exeunt, can we?”
As Jackie abandoned hope of escaping, she ran towards Sumire Shakespeare’s residence, confident that she could help. All Jackie had to do was ask Sumire to transport her back to where she came from. “What could possibly go wrong?” she thought. As the Englishwoman arrived at the house, she barged inside in a hurry without knocking. Kitty looked up from the shelves she was still dusting and giggled.
“Hey there, Miss Jackie!” Kitty smiled.
“Kitty,” Jackie panted, out of breath from all the running she had been doing, “where’s Miss Shakespeare?”
“The tatami room!” Kitty replied enthusiastically.

“Thanks!” Jackie called back, sliding open the door to the tatami room and finding Sumire lying on her stolen couch. “Miss Shakespeare,” Jackie began, as Sumire hopped off Jackie’s couch and walked over to her, “I think… I think Luna is taking over my mind…”
Sumire frowned. “Jackie, Dear,” she sighed, “if you finished reading my book, you’d know about mary sues.”
Jackie raised an eyebrow. “Mary who?”
“Mary sues,” Sumire said, “kinkind that get too powerful for their masters to control. And when that happens…” Sumire paused.
…
……
………
Sumire opened a portal up above Jackie’s head, dumping her discarded copy of Two Beings, Or Not Two Beings into her hands. Jackie looked up at the witch.
“This is…” Jackie panted, “This is my book. But I threw it away.”
“Were you not enjoying it?” Sumire sighed, “It does get rather grim near the end.”
“Woahwoahwoahwoahwoah! Woah,” Jackie stammered, “no spoilers!”
Sumire rolled her eyes. “That book…” she began, “is an autobiography about how Maryanne-Susan Webber was taken over by her kinkind.”
“But if she was ‘taken over’ how did she write it, then?”
“Witches and demons such as kinkind cannot exist in the human realm,” Sumire explained, “whenever M.S. Webber feels her memories slipping away, she just returns to the human realm and her body is back to normal,” Sumire said. “Honestly, if I didn’t keep spiriting away her books, I wouldn’t even remember who I used to be…” she lamented.
Jackie stared at Sumire, mouth agape. “You…” she began, “you’re M.S. Webber?”
Sumire stared back at Jackie with a blank expression. “Did I forget to tell you that?” she asked, “Anyway, when a kinkind becomes too powerful, they run the risk of becoming a mary sue, named after yours truly. It’s normal for a kinkind’s personality to mix with their summoner’s, but when a kinkind becomes a mary sue, they lose all memory of their former life as a human on Earth. They lose all desire to turn back to normal…” Sumire sighed. “They only reason that I can even remember who Maryanne-Susan Webber is… it’s because I’ve read and reread all of her… all of my books. Luna Wolfe, with her ability to copy the abilities of anyone she’s observed…” Sumire looked Jackie in the eye, “there’s no doubt she’ll become a mary sue.”
Jackie’s eyes widened as her face contorted into a visage of horror. “You… You knew right from the start that I’d become a mary sue?! That I’d lose all sense of myself?!” she started to tear up.
“Calm down, Jackie,” Sumire reassured her, “once Kuro’s defeated, I’ll take you back to Earth and Luna will disappear.”
“But what if you can’t?!” Jackie cried. “What if Kuro kills you before you get the chance to take me back?!”
“Nonsense,” Sumire scoffed, “Kuro’s all bark and no bi-”
“Mister Chekhov and Marissa are dead,” Jackie bluntly stated through her tears.
Sumire stared blankly at Jackie for a few seconds, only moving to wipe the tears away as they appeared in the corners of the witch’s unblinking eyes.
“I want to go home,” Jackie sobbed, “right now, Miss Shakespeare.”
SLAP! Jackie rubbed her bright red cheek which Sumire had just slapped with the back of her witchy hand.
“You will keep your promise and defeat Kuro,” Sumire grunted, “or so help me, I’ll…”
“What if Kuro kills me, huh?” Jackie snapped back, “I don’t want to do this anymore!”
“If you don’t stop whining…” Sumire said, pulling the brim of her hat over her eyes and frowning, “I’ll kill you myself.”
