“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?! Why?!” Jackie screamed, “I never would’ve agreed to help you if I knew my personality would be overwritten!”

“If you read my book like I told you to, you would’ve known all of this already!” Sumire yelled back. The witch sighed and placed her hand on Jackie’s shoulder, “Jackie… No one ever gave me the choice to turn back. No one ever told me that coming here was dangerous. I gave you a choice and you agreed. Now stop moaning and crying and uphold your end of the deal.”

Jackie folded her arms, flashing Sumire her right middle finger.

“You didn’t give me enough information when I made that promise, so it’s not fair!” Jackie scoffed.

“Either you defeat Kuro, or I’m not letting you return to the human realm ever again,” Sumire leered, “it’s your choice.”

Jackie lifted her glasses away from her face to wipe the tears from her eyes.

“You… You’re not my friend, are you?”

“Whatever gave you the idea that I was?” Sumire laughed – a laugh that was impossible to decipher. Her tone and expression gave the impression that she was laughing with Jackie, but the context of their conversation implied the complete opposite.

Jackie stared at the witch in disbelief, before running back to the sliding door and leaving the tatami room. She glanced over at the door to Katherine’s room, remembering how the two-tailed cat girl had treated her when teaching her to fly. Was Katherine a liar like her master? Was the French maid’s friendliness really nothing but a cunning ruse? Or did Katherine really care about Jackie’s wellbeing? She figured that talking to Katherine was worth a shot. If Katherine’s affection was genuine, then maybe she could convince Sumire to let Jackie leave without a fight. Jackie walked over to Katherine’s door and let out a deep sigh, opening it and stepping inside the feline’s room. Jackie blushed as she saw Jun tip-toeing up on his futon while staring out the window, wearing nothing but a pair of tight Y-front briefs which prominently showcased his butt-crack.

“What’s going on out there…?” Jun muttered, looking out of his window and seeing Kuro’s large black hole on the horizon.

Katherine’s summoner turned around and turned bright red at the sight of Jackie’s presence, covering his behind with his hands before shapeshifting into the familiar nekomata girl. Jackie could see quite far up Katherine’s short maid dress, but she supposed that Katherine’s pettipants and garter belt were a much more favorable alternative to Jun’s tighty-whities.

“I-Is this better?” Katherine blushed, “Katherine figures you wouldn’t want to see Jun’s… assets.”

Jackie covered her eyes and shook her head. “This isn’t much better, Kat…” she sighed.

“Why not?” Katherine asked, her two tails swaying about aimlessly.

“I can, uh…” Jackie stammered, “I can see your bloomers.”

“We’re both women,” Katherine chuckled, “so it’s ok, right?”

Jackie stared at the French maid with a blank expression, “I’m a lesbian.”

Katherine blushed and quickly tugged the back of her maid dress’s skirt over her white mini pettipants.

“Katherine’s so sorry!” she nervously apologized, hopping off the bed and curtseying for Jackie.

“It’s fine,” Jackie said. “Look, Kat, I’m here because, well…” Jackie pointed to the window that Katherine was previously looking out of. “I’m scared, Katherine… Kuro’s super powerful, she killed Mister Chekhov and Marissa, Luna is getting too hard to control, Miss Shakespeare won’t let me leave, and… I just…”

Katherine interrupted Jackie by wrapping her demonic arms around the human’s body, accidentally pushing Jackie’s face into her bust in the process. “It’s alright…” Katherine reassured Jackie, rubbing the Londoner’s hair, “Katherine’s here to protect you from mean old Sumire…” she smiled.

“Did you…” Jackie sniffed, “Did you know that Luna would be a ‘mary sue’?”

Katherine gently pushed Jackie away, resting her feline hands on the human’s body and looking her in the eyes. “Katherine is… Katherine’s sorry,” she apologized, “Katherine wanted to tell you, but Miss Sumire wouldn’t… Katherine couldn’t…”

Jackie stared up at the taller cat girl as tears ran down the nekomata’s cheeks. “Kat, it’s ok…” Jackie reassured her, “it’s not your fault.”

“Miss Sumire…” Katherine sobbed, “she means well, this is just… stopping Kuro is really important to her.”

Jackie nodded. “It’s ok, I think I get it,” she said, “protecting innocents is a noble cause… But why won’t she protect me? Why can’t someone else be her kinkind warrior?”

“Luna is the strongest OC that Miss Sumire’s seen…” Katherine solemnly muttered. “She’s come too far to let her just leave…” She paused. “And it’s not about protecting the masses…” Katherine said, “it’s about protecting Chloe.”

Jackie raised an eyebrow, “Who’s this 'Chloe'?”

Katherine leaned in to Jackie’s face and whispered in the human girl’s ear. “Chloe was Maryanne-Susan Webber’s sister,” the maid explained, reaching into Jackie’s shorts.

“W-What are you doing?!” Jackie stammered, blushing.

Katherine withdrew Jackie’s copy of Two Beings, Or Not Two Beings from inside of her denim half-pants. She held the book out to Jackie and flipped it to the last page.

Jackie stared at the still-damp page and read aloud its contents.

Two Beings, Or Not Two Beings is dedicated to my sister Chloe Webber.

‘To be, or not to be?’ That was her favorite quote. A line from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. You see, dear reader, Chloe always was a theater kid of the highest degree; plays, musicals, operas – even stand-up comedy – she loved every form of theater performance. If she were still here, perhaps she could play the role of Sumire Shakespeare in a theater adaptation of Two Beings? At this point I’m just getting sentimental. Sorry. I shan’t bore you any longer. Chloe, if you’re reading this: Enjoy your Phantasia, just as I have enjoyed mine.

- M.S. Webber”

Jackie looked up at Katherine, “What happened to her?”

Katherine sighed. “Miss Sumire suspects that Chloe accidentally wandered into Phantasia and never returned,” she explained, before letting go of Jackie. “That’s why she’s so concerned with keeping Phantasia safe. Miss Sumire thinks that Chloe may still be out there somewhere…” The enmaided nekomata paced around for a bit before sitting on her futon. “There must be something Katherine can do to make it up to you for not telling you about mary sues earlier?” she asked, patting the empty space on the futon.

Jackie plodded over to the maid’s futon and sat beside her. She thought for a bit about how Katherine could possibly repay her. “I don’t suppose you could convince Sumire to take me home?” she chuckled.

Katherine shook her head before leaning it in close to Jackie’s face. “Perhaps Katherine can do something that will make you want to stay, instead?”

“Oh, yeah,” Jackie laughed, “like what?”

Katherine once again put her hands on the Englishwoman’s shoulders, closed her eyes and puckered her lips expectedly.

Jackie blushed, bringing her own face closer to Katherine’s. “Is this really happening?” she thought excitedly, “My first kiss is going to be with a French maid cat girl?!” Jackie put her hands around the back of the maid’s head, bringing her in closer and giving her a quick smooch. Katherine smiled as Jackie broke the kiss.

“Katherine was expecting you to put your hands somewhere…” Katherine blushed, “naughtier…?”

Jackie turned bright red, removing her hands from Katherine’s person and quickly putting them by her side.

“K-Kat…” she stammered, “you r-really want me to…”

Katherine grabbed the shoulders of her maid dress, slowly sliding them down her arms, slightly exposing the straps of her bustier and a small amount of cleavage. “Do you… want to, Jackie?” she asked, staring down at the flustered young adult. “If you don’t want to, Katherine won’t force you. This is one-hundred percent your choice.”

Jackie closed her eyes and gave a quick nod of her head. “I’d love to, Kat.”
