Chapter 13: Chapter 12

Romeo stopped the car in his usual parking spot and looked at the window to see if Halo had arrived yet but he saw nothing. Climbing out, he grabbed his bag and locked the car.

“Yo whats up!” Yelled an excited Mason with Adrian standing beside him calmly.

Romeo went up to them, gave them all a bro hug and punched Jason on the arm who was grinning at his phone.

He raised a brow at Adrian who had a smile on his face and asked, “Where you been? I’ve been looking for you around.”

“I moved out of my moms place,” he answered.

“Really? Where are you staying?” He asked.

“With my dad,” he answered with a sigh.

Romeo nodded without asking further questions and stood beside them. Soon Niam passed them and didn’t bother looking their way or greeting them.

As he kept his eyes on Niam, he saw him walk up to a boy in black ripped jeans wearing a black and white checked shirt and black boots. When he took a closer look as they hugged, and saw that it was Halo.

He raised a brow and pulled out his phone texting: I thought you were going to let me know when you are at school

But as he watched them, Halo didn’t take out to respond.

“Child, he has his eyes on you and he looks so angry,” Niam giggled beside him as Halo dragged him into the school.

“Shh, just pretend you know nothing,” he said.

Niam rolled his eyes, “Yeah no shit. So what is it like?”

Halo looked at him with a smile and blushed, “He spoils me too much.”

Niam leaned into his ear and whispered, “He is rich, the drug money is good.”

Halo rolled his eyes and stopped by their lockers. They took out their books as he said, “He wants me to go do my drivers license.”

“So?” Niam asked.

Halo shut his locker and whispered, “So that he can buy me a car. Fuck Niam, did he buy Nicola one? Why is he so eager to buy me a car! My dad offered to buy me one too and I refused, so why should I accept his offer?”

Niam was taken by surprise by his words then burst out laughing, “Damn Halo, you must give good head.”

Halo hit him on the shoulder and when Niam wanted to say something, he saw Romeo’s group stop behind Halo who hissed at him, “We didn’t even get that far! We just made out.”

Niam cocked a brow ignoring the people behind Halo and said, “Then how do you explain what I saw?”

Halo turned red from embarrassment. Romeo cleared his throat behind him frightening Halo into yelping. He jumped and landed right beside Naim. They both stared at the group of friends and Halo immediately knew from the smiles that they heard their conversation.

He nudged Niam as he asked, “What can I do for you?”

“Good morning Halo,” Romeo said sounding annoyed.

Halo cocked a brow and asked, “Hello. How can I help you.”

“It’s Justin’s birthday this weekend, we need a cake and shit also we want the mac and cheese,” he said.

“Oh…” Halo said and nodded his head.

Niam behind him was eyes Adrian who continually used to badmouth them.

Halo looked at Justin who had his eyes on Niam and asked, “What cake do you like and how big do you want it?”

Justin’s gaze flicked over to him and he said, “Anything is fine. Just big enough to feed twenty people.”

Halo’s eyes moved to Romeo and asked, “So who is paying?”

“I will,” he answered. Justin grinned beside Romeo and said, “You should come too.”

Niam rolled his eyes and said, “Only if Halo goes with.”

“He’ll be cooking,” Justin said.

Niam remained silent and so did everyone else. Halo felt awkward and so did Romeo.

The bell rang saving them all and Halo rushed away dragging Niam with him who was laughing and screaming that they weren’t in the same class.

Halo waited in the kitchen silently with the lights off as if no one was in the class. There was a knock on the door then it slowly opened and in walked Romeo.

Halo took in a deep breath when he saw him and smiled. Romeo on the other hand, couldn’t smile even if he wanted to. He closed the door behind him, locked it and walked over to Halo.

He dropped his bag on his way. He grabbed onto Halo’s neck firmly and slammed their lips together. Diving his tongue into Halo’s mouth, he explored Halo’s sweet taste to his heart's desire.

When he finally let Halo go, Halo’s legs had giving in. He picked him up and placed him on the table and hugged him.

“Me-Meo,” Halo whispered as he caught his breath. He snaked his arms over Romeo’s shoulders.

“Yes?” Romeo answered with a shaky voice.

Halo straightened himself and looked at him confused. He was still out of it but he could tell that something was wrong. He cupped Romeo’s face and looked into his eyes. 

His gaze was unfocussed and it looked like he could cry any moment now.

“What’s wrong?” He asked, but Romeo shook his head. He hugged Halo tightly and whispered, “Don’t let me go, okay?”

Halo nodded his head and wrapped his legs around his waist. He closed his eyes as he hugged Romeo tightly and although he couldn’t hear it, he could feel the tears running down his neck and soaked his shirt.

They stood in that position for almost an hour. Romeo let him go and stepped back. Halo looked at him and as much as he wanted to question what happened, he didn’t, something just told him to be quiet.

He moved across to the next bench and sat down. He was embarrassed of how he acted and lowered his head. Halo gave him space for a few minutes then jumped off the table and walked up to him.

He cupped Romeo’s face in his hands and lifted it to look at him. He wiped his tears away with the pads of his thumb then ran his nose against Romeo’s. 

The silence between them was so suffocating and Halo’s touch against his skin felt like a feather was running over it. The breath coming out of his mouth from his parted lips was clean and welcoming.

He opened his eyes, looking into Halo’s emerald eyes, it pulled him into a world that he didn’t want to leave.

Halo looked at the tears that were running down the side of his face into his ears. He smiled as he explored every inch of his face then whispered as he stopped on his lips, “You’re beautiful.”

Romeo who was admiring Halo too, snapped out from his thoughts and chuckled. He pulled Halo’s hands away saying, “I look pathetic, crying in front of someone I barely know.”

Halo smirked, “Well at least we can say you know how my body looks. You’ll get to know me over time.”

“Halo, I’m too fucked up, I don’t think we should do this.” He suddenly said.

Halo frowned, he stepped back saying, “Then why do this? You just showed me a side of you that I don’t think anyone has seen and why would you come into my life like this, just to end things after breaking down?”

Romeo took Halo’s hands in his and said, “I don’t even know if I am gay but I do want to be with you. It’s just that everything I do, I’ll only end up hurting you and that isn’t what I want.”

“But what about me? I’m old enough to make my decisions and this whole thing with you being a drug dealer, I don’t know anything about it,” Halo said. “Why don’t you just be straight up with me and tell me that you made a mistake and what we did over the weekend was a lie.”

Romeo stood up and hugged him, “I’d never say that. Everything was real and you know that, I just don’t think that I’m right for you, you’re too innocent.”

“Sex is out of the question Romeo,” Halo said with a glare.

Romeo laughed. He kissed Halo on the lips and said, “I don’t think I can go without you.”

“So what’s your problem, why do you keep changing your mind?” Halo asked while he tried to squirm out of his arms.

“Okay, I’ll tell you,” Romeo said and sat down.
