Chapter 28: Chapter 27

A few days later…

August came running into the Foodies Club room and yelled, “Halo, the police are here and they arrested Romeo and his friends!”

“What?!” Halo screeched and accidentally cut his finger. He hissed from the pain and sucked on his finger after he said, “Where?”

“The front gates,” August answered.

Halo rushed out of the Foodies Club with nosy people following behind him. Halo burst through the school door and saw the crowd blocking his way. 

Halo pushed past the crowd and as he got to the front, he saw Nicola and her group of friends standing around and watching the scene before them unfold.

Halo looked ahead and his heart dropped when he saw Romeo, Cordell and K’Lavon lying on the ground handcuffed and being searched by policemen. Their cars too.

“Halo?” Niam called and Halo looked at him.

“Do you know why this is happening? The police just suddenly showed up and arrested them,” Niam asked cautiously.

Halo shook his head and ran towards Romeo and the others.

Romeo stood up when he saw Halo running towards him. Halo wrapped his arms around Romeo’s waist with tears in his eyes and asked, “Romeo, what’s happening?”

A policeman pulled Halo off of Romeo who started kicking and screaming, “Let me go or I’ll report you for harassment!”

“They are arresting us on charges of drug possessions according to the student body,” Romeo answered him, sounding confident.

“What?” Halo growled, sounding animal like that shocked Romeo to the core.

Halo’s head swung back, hitting the man’s mouth as he struggled and yelled, “Who the hell is lying on my man’s name?!”

“Damn,” K’Lavon mumbled, impressed that Halo stood up for his man. Romeo smirked and said, “Halo, just calm down. All of this is just bullshit and we know it.”

“You are awfully confident in yourself. We have you on tape selling,” one of the teachers walked over and stood in front of Romeo. 

Romeo gazed up at the man and winked. “Says the teacher sleeping with a married woman and her daughter.”

“The fuck?” The female officer said and looked at the teacher, who now had a conflicted look in his eyes.

Halo was taken away by the principal, who had to carry him to his office while Romeo and his boys were taken down to the police station.

Romeo sat in a dark investigation room across from an African American detective, who gazed back at him with a frown on his face.

Romeo had the attitude that told him they had nothing on him, but they did. The door opened and in walked a female officer holding a laptop. “Here you go sir,” she said, placing it down on the table between them and stepped back.

The detective typed on the laptop, switching it on and turned the screen to Romeo. He said, “You have been so confident since you arrived here and your boys too, but we have something I want you to watch.”

The detective pressed play and Romeo saw the staircase he knew well at Horizon High. He used to sell there and yesterday; he was asked to meet someone there who wanted molly.

Romeo chuckled and asked, “What is this detective, Rowan? A video of me giving Rocky a packet of mints?”

Romeo struck a nerve, and it pissed detective Rowan off. Yesterday when that boy returned with the packet of ‘drugs’ it was indeed mints meaning that Romeo knew they were onto him.

He slammed his hands on the table and stood up. “How did you know?”

“How did I know what?” Romeo asked, confused.

“Romeo Washington, don’t play dumb here. How did you know it was a set-up?” Detective Rowan asked him.

Romeo frowned and answered, “I don’t know what you are talking about. First, you rush up in the school and have me arrested. Now you are accusing me of dealing drugs, not to mention you have me and my friends here. I can understand that me handing that packet to Rocky looks suspicious as fuck but on a real, my boys haven’t done anything.”

Detective Rowan sat down and opened the folder. He pulled out a picture of a beautiful African American woman and handed the picture over to him and asked, “Do you know this woman?”

Romeo looked at the picture and kept his calm. He looked back at Detective Rowan as he answered, “Yes, this is one of the seniors from my school, Vanessa Miller. My boyfriend works for her husband.”

Detective Rowan wrote this down and asked, “Your boyfriend? The little white boy?”

Romeo rolled his eyes and sat back. “Yeah, why? And for your information, its old news discriminating against homosexuals and everyone else.”

“And that doesn’t stop people from discriminating,” Detective Rowan commented. 

“Why are you showing me a picture of Vanessa?” Romeo asked him.

“Vanessa was arrested twice in her school years for the death of two boys, one the court ruled as self-defence and another where the body was not found. She and her best friend Zayev, who was arrested under the accusation of molesting his younger brother, got rid of the body and we are suspecting that you are her connection to the school,” Detective Rowan stated.

Romeo was shocked hearing this news and said, “I don’t think that is accurate. Jeandre May is loved by Zayev May and if anything, they are ride or die. Why would you think I am her connection?”

Detective Rowan pulled out another picture and slid it across the table and said, “Because of this man.”

Romeo looked down at the picture and saw that there was a black silhouette with no features but just a name under it, title ‘Blood’. 

“This man is faceless and a terror in the under underworld and surface. Look Romeo, we need to put an end to this faceless man and you are a way for the police to at least get some sort of information on him. Blood has his hands in eve…”

The door swung open and in walked a Caucasian man with green eyes and looked like a mature version of Halo. Romeo looked at the man in shock as he spoke, “Detective Rowan, we meet again.”

Detective Rowan stood up and shook the man’s hand and said, “Now I am fully convinced that we are getting close to Blood, not only did you come here to save an unknown boy selling drugs at Horizon high but you are also the lawyer that saved Vanessa Miller.”

The man gave off a deep belly laugh and said, “Are you kidding me? My son called me and told me that his boyfriend was arrested for something he wasn’t involved in, now, if you will excuse me, I’d like to give my son some peace of mind about the mints he was handing out at school.”

Detective Rowan rolled his eyes and looked at Romeo and said, “Looks like it’s your lucky day.”

But now, he was going to do everything he can to get ‘Blood’ and ‘Cardinal.’

Romeo walked out behind Mr McClelland, and did not know what to say. He only knew Halo’s mother and his uncle. He never asked about this man thinking that he was dead or a deadbeat.

They walked around a corner, and Romeo saw K’Lavon and Cordell sitting and talking to Halo. Cordell spotted the two handsome men and stood up.

Halo stood up when he saw Romeo walking behind his father. He ran up to them. He jumped up into his father’s arms and started crying, “Thank you, papa.”

Mr McClelland chuckled and said, “Anytime baby boy, now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go say hello to your mama and sister or I will be dead.”

Halo let go of his dad and kissed him on the cheek, “And no making babies. You aren’t even home to raise them.”

Mr McClelland chuckled and said, “You can’t tell me what to do with my wife. How do you think your cute self got here?”

Halo rolled his eyes and walked over to Romeo and hugged him. Romeo looked over Halo at Mr McClelland and nodded his head. “Thank you, sir.”

Mr McClelland shook hands with Romeo and warned, “This is the last time you make my son cry and I know you cheated on him.”
