*Eight months before Halo entered Romeo’s life*

“So what did you want to talk to me about?” Romeo asked Mason.

Mason looked at him as he sat down on the bleachers beside him and asked, “You are gay, right?”

“Wow, if this is you coming out, go somewhere else because I am not about to kiss another man that looks like he is crazy,” Romeo said, and backed off.

“No idiot, and my girl is prettier than you,” Mason said with a chuckle.

Romeo smirked and sat back down beside him as he answered, “Yeah, I like guys more than females, but that doesn’t mean I won’t date a female if I like her.”

Mason nod his head and said, “The only reason I am cool with them is because of you, but how do you deal with Adrian being all homophobic and shit?”

Romeo sighed as he answered, “Adrian is just hurting. It’s personal, but I think he is gay, too.”

“What?” Mason asked, surprised.

Romeo looked at Mason and said, “And I think he likes you, but don’t do or say anything because I will kill you, no cap.”

Mason stared at Romeo and asked, “How are you so sure?”

“Because he can’t look at you straight and always seems on edge when you are around. I never asked him about it because I know if he wanted to say something to me regarding his sexuality, he would, but then again, I am not the right person who would give advice,” Romeo said.

Mason nodded his head slowly, making a mental note to keep an eye on Adrian. He looked ahead at the football field and said, “So you know that girl my brother is interested in?”

“That pretty one driving a Merc?” Romeo asked. He liked the car more than her.

Mason chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, according to my brother, she used to be he.”

Romeo’s brows rose as he looked at Mason and said, “Oh.”

Mason turned to him and asked, “Why just oh?”

“Because I don’t care,” he answered, and he could see the seriousness in Romeo’s eyes.

“Why wouldn’t you care?” Mason asked.

Romeo sat back and said, “Man, this world is all sorts of fucked up and homophobic people just waste their breaths. The world is changing and we need to, too. You never know, a female with a dick could be running the streets for a white man that thinks he is black and you wouldn’t know it. Your dad could be a pedophile or your uncle could be fucking his daughter.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Mason asked him.

Romeo shrugged, “Look at it this way, you want your brother to be happy, right? Well, he can be happy with anyone and anything. It’s better than living in that house where all the shit’s going down. With Alexandra by his side, he might become sane enough to not kill your father.”

Mason sighed and asked, “But what should I do? How can I accept someone like her?”

“By being yourself and not judging? I know you don’t judge people, Mason, and if you give her a chance, you probably will be the happiest in the world. In your house there are just men, but with Alexandra added, there will be a sister who is possibly stronger than your mother. She could be a shoulder to lean on when you need it most,” Romeo suggested.

Mason nodded his head. “Fine.”

Romeo scoffed and got up, he looked at him and said, “And don’t go telling everyone about her, that is her story to tell not yours and as a brother-in-law, it’s your duty to keep her safe when shit goes sideways.”

Mason nodded his head slowly and watched as Romeo left. Frankly speaking, Romeo was the only one he could talk to, but why the hell did he tell him about Adrian?
