This guy had more self-importance than the entire globe. Aiden was right. Now, I understand why he talked to him like that. Having told Nina that I wanted to take a walk, I took the book and headed towards the forest thicket. It was not worth going far. I didn't know the way, but I could easily get lost with my topographical cretinism. I kicked a small pebble with all my anger. The Duke lectured me for two hours on social behaviour. He was supposed to be happy, so what the hell happened? I took a deep breath. A clearing of yellow dandelions caught my attention.

"Nika, do you know why I love dandelions?" Sasha smiled and touched a small flower.

"Why?"

"They look like little suns."

"Nika, promise me. That you will be happy even if I am no longer by your side."

"Stop it. Do you even understand what you're talking about?" I jumped up from the grass.

"I Understand."

"Dad said the best doctors are in this clinic. Everything will be fine."

"I love you more than anyone in the world. Just remember this."

I walked to the clearing in slow steps, which was so strange. It was still summer here. I got hit by a car in October. And I've been here for almost three months now. On Earth, probably, the snow had already fallen. Or not yet. I laid down on the grass and looked up at the sky. Lying down, I remembered the song that Sasha liked and hummed it.

Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around and desert you

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie, and hurt you

I picked one dandelion and looked up at the clear sky again.

"Lady Ariana, what were you singing about?" That voice. I closed my eyes and sighed. The tournament was not enough for him. Did he decide to get me here too?

"Greetings, little sun of the empire." After muttering these words, I didn't even get up from the grass and just lay there.

Mikael laughed out loud, and the grass rustled. He laid down next to me.

"You have a beautiful voice. Did you know that?"

"No, if not for you, I would have lived in ignorance, Your Highness." I rolled my eyes.

"I like your sarcasm."

"I'm glad I could please you."

"What are you doing here?" He leaned his head against his hand and squinted. I did not like his look. It was too inquisitive, as if he wanted to know everything.

"I'm hiding from you."

"You're not doing well."

"I know." I just wanted to be alone, but the prince had come and annoyed me.

"Are you mad at me because of the tournament?" Mikael probably thought that the whole world revolved around him.

"And if so, will you apologise?"

"No, I am also not happy that you refused to become my bride." His voice became a little colder, and I unconsciously cringed.

"Not a bride, but a candidate for a bride."

"There will be no selection."

"What?" I opened my eyes in surprise.

"Yes, it is." Mikael turned and loomed over me.

"Why did you decide so?"

"Because no one suits me except you."

"Your highness, you don't know me at all. Why do you need me?" You wanted the main character, not me. I wanted to scream those words in his face.

"I know a lot about you." He ran his fingers along my cheek. "For example, the fact that you play every morning with your brother in the garden, like to read under a huge oak tree, drink only the tea that your maid Nina prepares. How do you bite your pencil when you write something in a notebook."

"Are you following me?" I started.

"What will you do if I said yes?" The prince chuckled.

"For how long?"

"A couple of months."

Damn, I've been followed for so long. He was not only a sadist but also a stalker.

"Why?"

"I wanted to know what the woman that my father so insistently offers me as a wife is like." A smile appeared on his face.

"That is, when we met for the first time, you already knew about me."

"It was you who refused me. It hurts me very much." Mikael kissed my cheekbone and moved up to my lips. What the hell was he doing again?

Before I had time to push him away, I heard the cry of a bird. He sharply pressed me, covering me with himself. After that, Mikael got up and pulled me behind him. There was a deep cut on his left shoulder, from which crimson blood flowed.

"Your Highness." I looked at him in horror.

"Stay behind me." The prince drew his sword from its scabbard.

"Guys, get away from the girl and stay alive. We only need her." A masked man stepped out from behind the trees, followed by four others. These were the imperial grounds. Where were the outsiders coming from?

"It makes me very sad that you are not following me." Mikael chuckled. "I thought I would be more important than the girl."

"We don't need you. Only the girl."

"Who are you?"

"Why should a man who is about to die need to know this?" The prince's voice was cold as ice. He swung his sword and lunged at the masked men.

The crown prince moved quickly. His skills were simply amazing. Even with a wound, he easily dealt with his rivals. The novel never said that he was such a strong swordsman.

"Who hired you?"

Mikael stood with his foot on the throat of the still-living mercenary, who was bleeding.

"Answer my question. Who hired you?" The prince pressed harder, and the man wheezed. Here was the sadistic prince in his full glory. I turned away from the terrible sight. "Fine, then. I don't need you anymore."

After these words, I heard a sharp sound ... I was shaking. Acid rose to my throat; I had never seen people die because of being killed. I stood with my back and tried not to look. Sticky fear paralysed me, filling my chest with heat. An unpleasant chill ran down my back.

"Ariana, look at me." Mikael came over and gently addressed me.

"No." I shook my head.

"Please."

I turned around, he was almost covered in blood, but it was not clear whose blood it was. His entire shirt was soaked in it.

"You are covered in blood."

"It's not my blood."

"But your shoulder, it's hurt."

"Just a scratch." He wiped the blood from the sword on the grass and sheathed it. "I didn't think they wanted to kill you more than me."

"Are you really only concerned about this?" I shook my head.

"What do you think?" He chuckled. Now in this form, he looked very intimidating. "Are you afraid of me now?”

"Not really. If you wanted to hurt me, you wouldn't defend me today, Your Highness."

At first, he looked at me in surprise, as if he did not expect such an answer. And then he touched my cheek with his bloodied palm.

"Call me Mikael." The prince leaned over and kissed me on the lips with those words.

If I disappointed the prince when I didn't return the kiss, he didn't show it. Even though I had never kissed, I knew a kiss wasn't supposed to taste like this. It was metallic, like the taste of blood.
