I was pulled into a dream or a memory. In it, I was twelve again. I was playing with my nanny in my bedroom. Dad was late at work, and I was despondent because he promised to return early. I heard the door open and rushed to him.
"Daddy, I missed you so much."
"I want to introduce you to someone." Father's voice was calm and cold, as always.
"Who is it?"
From behind came a woman whom I would hate and despise more than anyone in the world. But at the time, I didn't know that.
"Hello, Nika. My name is Lara."
"Hello."
"I hope you make friends. Now we will live as one family."
From the very beginning, Lara was friendly to me, and I liked it. Everything changed as soon as she married my dad and became pregnant. Her real character was revealed. She was a real snake. A lying, evil and two-faced snake. I tried to explain this to my dad, but he did not listen to me, and from that moment on, our relationship began to worsen more and more. In my mind, her child was the same. I thought I would hate him as much as I did that witch. But I was wrong again.
Sasha was so kind and sweet, like a warm ray of sunlight. Lara never followed Sasha. She didn't even care about her own daughter. She constantly disappeared into salons, boutiques, and restaurants. Little by little, I began to spend more and more time with my sister. We became inseparable, even despite the big age difference. While all my friends ran for a walk and had fun, I hurried to her because there was no one but me. Dad still disappeared from work.
Everything was fine until Sasha was diagnosed with leukaemia. It started her constant visits to doctors that ended with her hospitalisation. Despite the illness of her daughter, Lara had not changed at all. We went to Germany, where we were promised that Sasha would be helped. But this did not happen; she soon died. The witch played such a commendable performance at her funeral. How heartbroken she was at her daughter's death.
My patience came to an end. I grabbed her hair right there. I could scratch her whole face and tear out her dyed hair with ease. Dad pulled me away from Lara and slapped me. Then I told him that he and his whore should be in that grave, not Sasha. Having collected all my things, I moved to a rented apartment and got a part-time job. I came across a novel left by the previous tenants.
"Nika, you must remember." I heard Sasha's quiet voice.
"Remember what?"
"When you remember, you will understand."
"What are you talking about?"
"Get back your memories."
I quickly opened my eyes and saw the ceiling of my room. How was this possible? I remember being with Aiden in the tower.
"Did you wake up?" I heard the voice of the magician.
"How do you feel?"
"Things are good." He was sitting in a chair next to my bed.
"What are you doing in my room? How did we get here?" I jumped out of bed.
"I thought you'd thank me first. Sleeping while sitting is not very comfortable." Aiden smiled.
"Thanks, but what if someone suddenly sees you?"
"Your father and stepmother are away, and your brothers are on the training ground."
"That is good to hear." I plopped down on the bed.
"You cried in your sleep. What did you dream about?"
"I don't remember well. Are you going to look for that woman and Victor now?"
"Yes. I was in the temple where you saw Victor today. They don't know such a person there, but I felt a trace of magic. Most likely they were simply brainwashed."
"Nina might know something about him."
"Ask her to tell you everything she knows."
"Certainly."
"How did you know they'd be in a brothel?"
"I noticed a trace of magic near Baron Fate's tent. He is not a magician, but just an idiot who loves to gamble. I found out when he would come to the brothel to follow, because I did not find anything in his house."
"Did you get anything from him?"
"He was killed as soon as he entered the room on the second floor." Aiden was clearly not happy with the situation. Perhaps he rarely failed.
"Do you think he was involved in this?"
"I don't think so. He is a puppet, and the puppeteer is that woman. Faith helped her, and after that he was killed as an unnecessary witness."
"Will the girl we saw be okay?" I was really worried about her.
"Yes. Don't worry about it." Aiden got up from his chair and sat next to me on the bed.
"She's very beautiful. It's the first time I see such a beautiful girl."
"Her mother was also very beautiful."
"Did you know her mother?"
"Yes. She was a courtesan, like mine." The Magus chuckled.
"And your father?"
"I've never seen him. I only know that he is my mother's client and a wealthy aristocrat."

"Is that why you hate them?" I put my hand on his arm. He flinched slightly at my touch. "Do you hate me too?
"No. Thanks to you, I changed my mind a little."
"I am glad." I smiled at him.
"Fool." Aiden smiled back at me.
"Did you get scars during the war?"
"Yes. When I first got there, it seemed to me that this was not serious. But when I saw people die, I realised where I was."
"How old were you?"
"I got to the front at thirteen. Before that, I was so glad that I was able to get out of that disgusting place. I had a carefree and quiet life at the academy, I was highly praised by the teachers. Friends, like everyone else. He sighed. We were of different ages, but we didn't care."
"Are you still talking to them now?"
"No, princess. Almost all of them died during the war." Pain flickered in the mage's eyes.
"That's horrible." I whispered. "I'm sorry…"
"The second time, I was already nineteen, and so that no more children would die for the benefit of our stupid emperor, during the first battle, I used a powerful spell and destroyed most of the enemy army."
"What happened after that?"
"I have been made archmage of our empire. And the war ended after a couple of months. No one else wanted to go against the Veilos Empire."
"Sending children to war is inhuman." I squeezed his hand.
"The children of the aristocracy don't fight. They stay at the academy. They only sent people like me to war."
"I already told you, but I'll say it again. You're a wonderful person."
"Did you even hear what I told you?" He looked at me in surprise.
"Yes." I got out of bed and sat next to him.
"And you still think so?"
"Yes. You didn't do it all of your own accord. I don't even know what I would do, so I can't judge you."
"An interesting opinion." He took off his round pendant and put it around my neck.
"What is it?" I touched the accessory.
"An amulet. It will tell me if you're in trouble."
"See, I told you you were a wonderful person."
"Now I understand why that boy clung to you so much." Aiden chuckled.
"You have a beautiful laugh." I smiled at him.
Aiden silently hugged me. After a while, he pulled away from me a little and gently ran his hand through my hair. The colour of his scarlet eyes is simply mesmerising, so piercing. I gently touched his cheek with my fingers, and he smiled warmly at me. It was easy to communicate with him. Aiden was a very kind and caring person. Regardless of what he had been through.
"It's time for me to leave. Your relatives will return soon." Aiden got out of bed. "I don't think they'll be thrilled if they find me in your room."
"That's for sure." I laughed and got out of bed, too.
"Don't leave the estate unnecessarily."
"I will try."
"Clever, now come here." He grabbed my waist and pulled me towards him.
"What are you doing?"
"I want to say goodbye."
"You have a rather strange way of saying goodbye."
"Do you think so?" Aiden smiled slyly.
"Yes."
"I'll tell you once, so listen carefully. You said that you like me as a person. Correct?"
"Correct."
Now I want you to see me as a man. He said it in such a voice that I got goosebumps, so I didn't react right away.
"What?"
Aiden kissed me unexpectedly. He covered my face before I even knew it was his lips. He bit his upper lip and let it go, moving up and down. His hot, passionate kisses intoxicated my mind. I watched his face change through closed eyelashes and felt how hot his breath was getting. This kiss was different from Mikael's. I felt weak in my knees.
My head was spinning. I could not come to my senses, although it seemed to me that he was still touching my face. We were tangled up like a ball. Aiden was kissing me with all his passion, and before I knew it, a bright light blinded me, and the magician disappeared.
