Ch 21- Learning This World Knowledge

After a nice bath and a good night's sleep on the soft mattress, we had our breakfast and checked out from the hotel. We had to leave the city as soon as possible since the Cybernetic might be looking for us after they realized what I had done to the previous cyborg.

But, by my request, I asked Shea to stop by the library and a couple of important places first before we left the city. I needed more information about how this world works, the rules, technology, and everything since I couldn't keep depending on Shea. I needed the knowledge to act by myself.

Once we got off from Ryder, we got into the library. The building looked like a futuristic version of ancient Roman architecture. It had an arched ceiling supported by pillars and columns. The walls were all made of marble. It had a dome in the center of the roof which was decorated with an intricate design.

There were two floors on the main entrance level but the upper floor was hidden behind a wall that led to the rooms where rare books were kept. But rather than books, the normal books had turned into tiny half marbles with a lens on them. We just need to press it and a hologram book will appear. It also had a sensory detector so the readers only had to flick their fingers to go to the next page.

"Good morning, sir. How can I help you?" A hologram female librarian greeted me politely once I approached the desk.

"Can you tell me where these books are?" I asked. At the same time, Shea who was standing beside me clicked her device and showed the book list. I made that list last night after I browsed through the internet. Yeah, last night, I spent my time learning and reading articles before I hit the bed. So I should be smarter now.

"Do you have a library membership?" the hologram asked.

"Yeah," said Shea, showing it to her. I realized her device played a lot of functions from storing money to weapons. I knew I had to have one, but I could have it until I had an ID. Which meant, I had to go to the government office to get one after this. No matter how.

"Okay then, let me show you to them." But rather than the hologram, a 2ft cylinder robot showed us the way. It had six robotic arms which were useful for tidying up everything.

We turned to a glass wall that led to another room. "Here you go," the robot said.

"Thanks." We went inside the room. Our gazes swept around the glass bookshelf with a thousand marbles on it. A LED light label was on the front of the shelf. Until I found what we wanted. 

"Let's start with this one." I took one and brought it to the chair near the bookshelf. 

After I sat down and placed it on the table, I activated the book by placing my hand over the lens.

A holographic screen appeared in front of me and I started reading.

"Just make it fast okay? We only have a couple of hours," Shea whispered. Her restlessness was clear in her voice.

"Just help me to get other books," I said. After that, I used my Quick Learn to the book and let the information rush to my head.

After I got the information, I took the other book, read it, and repeated it.

One hour had passed. At least I had read more than 10 books, from technology to this world's rules. My head felt heavy from all the information I had absorbed.

"I think I'm on my limit," I announced. I closed the book and placed it back on the shelf. 

"You better take a break. Let's leave this place for now," Shea suggested.

"Sounds good. Okay. Let's get going." I got up and followed the hologram's directions to the exit. Once outside, I saw a lot of people of different races walking around. It was a busy day for the library.

"We’ll go to the citizenship office," I said. "Do you know where it is?"

"Yeah. I've been here before," Shea confirmed. "But are you sure you want to go there? I know you need your ID and I can give you one after we reach my refuge ship," she offered me.

"But it's still far away. We might find more trouble in another city if I don't have an ID," I reasoned. Well, coming to the government office also could give me more trouble. But without an ID I literally couldn't do anything and I didn't like when I needed to depend on others. "I promise I won't cause any trouble." I gave her my innocent smile. 'I hope...'

Shea sighed. "Fine. Just minimize your interaction with the staff. Sometimes they like to ask unnecessary things."

I raised my thumb confidently. "Got it."

"Okay. Let's go." She walked ahead to the exit and we headed to the citizenship office. It wasn't far from the library. So we just needed around 5 minutes to arrive.

The office was a big building made of a simple structure with no ornamentation or decoration. There were a few people inside but not many. Two of them were talking to each other. One was an older man wearing a robe while the other was a young woman with glasses. Both of them were human.

The room itself was dominated by holograms with a terminal in front of it. Around the area were rows of chairs and tables where visitors could sit and wait.

A hologram staff who was floating in midair welcomed us. "Hi, sirs. How may I help you?"

"We would like to apply for citizenship," I said.

"Please go to desk number 1. Our staff has been waiting for you," the hologram directed us. She then vanished.

We followed her instructions. But when we arrived, I used my Your Technology Manipulation to it.

[ A citizen staff droid has been taken into your control. For now, he will obey you.]

"My name is Axl, a male human, make me an ID. I don't care what you put in there. Just make it as 'clean' as possible," I ordered him without further ado.

"Understood."
