Ch 23 – I Won't Let You Get Bored
I shifted my gaze to her and looked at Shea, who sat down on the side of the road, with a flat stare. She was eating her canned sandwiches nonchalantly.
"You just snatched my prey," I complained.
"How sad," she said with a smirk. She was clearly proud of her victory. Her cheeks were flushed with excitement. It was cute.
A breath came out of my mouth. I smiled dryly. "You should let me have all the fun," I complained again as I sat down beside her and resumed my lunch.
She giggled annoyingly before her smile faded and turned to me. "After all the incidents? No." Then she ended it by taking a bite of her sandwich.
"You mean the cyborg's attacks?" I confirmed. "It wasn't my fault," I protested.
"What I mean is what happened in the citizenship office," she said while chewing.
"That's also not my fault," I complained again before I took a bite of my canned sandwich.
"It is not. But, I need something to calm myself down after all the thrill," she said with a shrug.
I cringed at her statement.
"You said that is a thrill?" I repeated in disbelief. "You attacked the cyborg headquarters alone, were being chased by them and got injured because of it, yet you didn't give a damn. Why do you call a simple incident in the citizenship office a thrill?"
"Because it's something new to me," she said as she shrugged. "And besides, I need to protect my good reputation. I am a princess after all," she reminded me proudly.
"Your good reputation? Please. You are a princess alright but you aren't any better than me," I replied. "You just stole something important from another country."
She turned to me and frowned in displeasure.
"I never stole anything," she said unhappily.
"You did," I retorted with an annoying smirk.
"What do you mean?" This time, it was her turn to complain.
I pointed at myself, reminding her that it was she who took me from the cyborgs.
She smiled dryly.
"You are an exception. Besides, you aren't an object," she argued.
"I was an object," I reminded her. Or I could say, they treated me as one before. My expression showed that I was only joking.
"So you prefer to stay with them?" she asked in annoyance.
I pressed my lips. My annoying smile faded. A dry smile took its place.

"I was kidding, ya know," I tried to explain.
Upon my expression, slowly an annoying smile bloomed on her face.
"I know. I'm just messing with you," she said between her soft giggles.
I turned to her.
"You---" I exhaled. "Stop messing with me," I said before I took another bite of my sandwich and turned my attention back to the road.
"That is a tough request," she said. "We still have a long way to go and will spend a lot of time together. So... I think we will spend a lot of time messing with each other in the future."
That statement made me turn to her. I could catch the slight smile on her lips.
Unconsciously, a smile also bloomed on my lips. I sighed. "Fine. Keep messing with me if you want to," I said. "Or I will die from boredom." I didn't know why, but that simple statement made me happy. I even could feel my heart beat a bit faster than usual. Well, it has been a long time since someone treated me like this.
Before, since I was a hero, everyone treated me like one. It was nice at the beginning but turned annoying since I felt a bit of distance from the others. On the other hand, I couldn't get too close to others due to my responsibility.
"Don't worry. I won't let you get bored. Being trapped in crystals sure sucks, so I should at least give you as much thrill as you want." She grinned at me. "So you can feel alive again."
I bit my lower lip and glanced at her. I couldn't help it. I could feel my face getting hotter. That was a very sweet thing to say. I had forgotten how it felt when someone appreciated my presence as myself. Not as the hero.
My heart raced. 'Calm down you stupid heart. She is just being nice,' I yelled at myself. I took a sip of water and calmed my nerves. After I finished my drink, I spoke. "Yeah, you are right. I don't want to get bored ever again," I suggested.
"Good," she agreed happily. "Anyway... I think we have another guest," she said. I knew what she meant was another monster was approaching us.
"Two," I corrected her. "Another one is crawling behind you," I warned her.
"So— You want me to take care of them? Or you?" she asked without glancing at them.
"They are yours," I said and took the last bite of my sandwich. They were low-level monsters so I was sure Shea’s drones could take care of them.
"Fine," she said with a shrug. "Guardian!" she ordered her drones to take care of monsters while we were having your lunch in the middle of it.
Her three drones flew toward the monsters. One of them, the one that was in front of her, fired its laser to destroy the first monster. The monster was shaped like an alien lizard's head without a body. It was burned into ashes instantly.
The second monster charged at us. It swung its arm, preparing to strike at us. It was a huge beast with multiple heads and horns. But before the attack landed on us, her drone shot it from the back. It hit the monster hard, making it fall. The laser pierced through its chest. The monster died instantly. Its dying scream echoed through the air. Its body quickly vanished as if it was never there.
"Nice," I complimented her.
"Thank you," she smiled. Then she got up. "I think we should go now or we will sleep on the road."
"Yeah." I also got up. " Let's go."
