Ch 26 – Cybernetic Invasion

I could see the city guards patrolling the skies. I guess they were keeping watch over the city. I could also see some of the city's residents walking along the sky sidewalks and the city's traffic police officers. They were wearing white uniforms and helmets.

Another hour had passed before I finally reached the city gates. Before the officers noticed me, I quickly got off my War Machine and stored it inside my inventory. It was the Cybernetic War Machine. The officers would notice it for sure. So I was back to become Shea's passenger again.

While I waited for Shea to finish dealing with the officer, I looked at the city from the open gate. The city was really big. It spanned across several square kilometers. I could see the tall skyscrapers in the center of the city. It reminded me of my ordinary world's city. Only these buildings were made of metal and glass. They weren't just tall but wide too.

On top of it, a statue shaped like a giant star. I guessed it was a symbol of the city.

A few minutes later, Shea was done dealing with the officer. She saluted him and he returned it.

"Welcome to the capital," the officer said while returning her salute. He then gestured for us to go inside the city.

"Thank you very much," Shea said politely. Then she led me inside the city.

"You know this place pretty well, don't you?" I asked her. I was lucky since the officer didn't check me at all.

"Yeah. I used to play in this city several times when I was young," she replied.

"I see. That's why you look familiar with all of this," I said. "So where are we going next?"

"There's a hotel near here. We can stay there tonight."

"Okay. I hope it won't cost too much."

"Don't worry. It shouldn't cost that much. They also have cheap food stalls nearby."

I nodded. Then we rode Ryder towards the hotel. There were a lot of people around. I couldn't really tell, but it looked like the population was quite dense.

We passed by some people on the way. Most of them were citizens of the city, but there were also a few tourists visiting the capital. Space tourists to be precise since they were aliens.

Their bodies were mostly covered by silver-colored armor. They also wore helmets with glowing blue lights on top of it. Their faces were hidden by their helmets. But their eyes could be seen through the visors. I guessed that was so they could see their surroundings clearly.

The others looked similar to humans, but their skin color was different. Some were green, brown, yellow, black, or even pinkish. But most of them were pale white.

They looked at me curiously as I passed by them. But I ignored them. I wondered if they could feel the dark lord's power inside me.

The city was filled with buildings made of metal. They were tall and narrow. Each building was connected to the other via sky walkways, something similar to a bridge. Some buildings were also taller than others. I assumed they were government offices.

The city was also lit up with neon signs. Neon signs were used to indicate businesses and shops. They were also used to show the current time.

Most of the city was illuminated by bright lights. The roads were also paved with asphalt. The city was clean and well-maintained.

"Looks like a nice city," I commented.

"Yes. And it's even more amazing at night," Shea agreed. "Let's find a place to stay."

As we moved through the road, I could see a group of people gathered around a building. It looked like some kind of demonstration. I wondered what it was about.

"Hey! Look at that!" I shouted to Shea.

She looked at the crowd. "Yeah. Looks like something just happened?"

"Should we check it out?"

"Yeah. Let's do that." She nodded.

As we approached and stopped not far from them, I could hear the voices of the protesters. They were shouting loudly in front of a gigantic screen that showed the war scene between live creatures and cyborgs. I could see the huge Mothership like the one I destroyed in the blue forest before.

"Cybernetic army has invaded Smuisia city of Aplana Republic! This is an act of terrorism against humanity. We need your help!" said the reporter on the screen.

While the protesters raised their fists repeatedly and yelled, "Stop the invasion! Stop the Cybernetic!"

I froze in shock as I remembered one important thing. The Cybernetic used my power to build their mothership's core. They used my power to destroy another's city, another beloved home, and there was no way I could accept it!

It didn't take long for me to recover. I shook myself and gathered my composure.

"Tell me. Where's Smuisia city?" I asked Shea without diverting my eyes from the screen.

I needed to go to that city. I would not allow those junk cans bastards to use my power as they pleased.

"Are you planning to go there?" Shea made a bull-eye guess.

"That's right!" I answered immediately and turned to her. "Those bastards are using my power for war. I can't accept it," I hissed in anger. "I'm going to stop them," I added quietly.

I wanted to get revenge on the Cybernetic for using me. I was angry and hurt. So I killed those damned Cybernetic bastards.

"That city is located in the northern part of the continent. We need to pass it to reach my refugee ship," she explained.

"Really?" I asked her in disbelief. I thought it was in another part of the continent and we had to take a detour to reach there.

"Yeah. Don't worry. Just take a good rest for the night and prepare ourselves. You also need a helmet to cover your identity. We can buy one in the city," she said.

I nodded. "Okay. Let's go!"
