Chapter 12: (12) Evolution

Here they are, Lily and Yen are standing on the white platform. 

On the screen on the front of them, something is written.

You are to pick a direction in which you want to evolve and an opponent in that image will be formed. Winning the test will give you a new system feature of your choice and the opportunity to evolve.

Losing will cut your mana reservoir in half and weaken you for 1 month.

Marlyn wave to them and they smiled. Similarly waving at her before entering.

It launched far away from Lily and spikes speared their way out of the ground.

Lily quickly dodged the spears, he noticed that they are all enchanted with speed enchantment.

He got nearer and nearer to the spirit when suddenly two of its hands shone. A wall of vines with enchanted defense blocked his path. 

He cast enchantments on himself and pierce the wall with sharp vines. But before he can cross, he was blasted backward. The wall wriggle and turned into a giant palm. It's so fast, fortunately, he dodges to the side with a chunk of him missing.

Instead of targeting the palm, he searched for the spirit. He found it not far away from him casting enchantments on the palm.

Without wasting time, he launched multiple sharp roots towards it. The chanting got interrupted when a spike hit one of the tentacles and severing it.

Before other roots can reach it, the palm teleported in front of it and blocked everything. The palm shifted and then turned into 5 spikes, one for each hand.

It speeds up towards him and attempts to make a hole in his body.

Lily formed a shield to give him enough time to dodge.

The spikes reached the shield but Lily is already away from the range. Taking this opportunity he took another 3 tentacles using sharp root projectiles.

It became enraged. It suddenly becomes faster. 

In a blink of an eye, it's in front of him. He formed a shield, holes appeared as instant as it formed. 

Soon on his left side is a hole. But it also offers something. He's near the main body because of how fast it can move it can't properly control its movement.

With this opportunity, he unleashed all his mana to enchant so many sharp roots, and soon the spirit is riddled with. An eye fell from the many roots consisting of the spirit. There are 6 thin tentacles on its and 4 of them were severed. A root could be seen piercing the eye all the way and it's still stuck on the eye.

Then suddenly he feels dizzy and fell unconscious

On the side of yen.

She's currently not in a good state. One of her wings was torn apart and her opponent is not much better. It's an owl with 4 wings and three of which were full of tears. Its black feathers are all soaked with blood.

They both rush to each other. Yen holds a dual blade made up of light with her wings while the other uses its remaining wing as a sharp blade.

The opponent raised its wing and slash down. Black currents mixed with white smoke formed a sharp blade going for Yen. She dodged it, but not all as it cut some of her feathers. They reached each other and a flurry of attacks flash between them. It is not a test of strength, but a test to see who can last long enough to win. Both of them exhausted their mana only enough to sustain their weapons.

 The attacks of the four-winged black owl continue at the expense of its wing slowly tearing down.

The blade Yen holds also slowly dimming down.

Cuts appeared all over their bodies and they are nearing their limits.

They are arriving at the end, Yen pushed her strength to her limit and finally cuts the head of her opponent.

It finally ended, she fell down and lose consciousness.

Before they know it, their body starts changing.

Meanwhile outside, under the shadows.

Two people are talking to each other.

" Have you found out why they are gathering so many resources?" 

One shadow resembling a figure of a woman asked the person next to her.

"Aww little girl I didn't find the one for increasing the size of the sentry "

He playfully ruffled her hair.

Marlyn just glared at him
