Chapter 8: (8)An upgrade.

They are still monitoring the duo exploring the area. The duo got addicted to the game to the point that Lily and Yen made another rule not allowing anyone to stay online 24 hours straight. They can only play from 11 am to 12 pm

Of course, that updates upset the two, but there's nothing they can do. At this point, Fen is no longer angry at the culprit.

To the duo

"Master, I don't think this will work" 

He said as he look at the wooden wall blocking the cave they use as shelter. Because this is now their shelter, they now spawn here.

"Have trust in your master" 

He instantly has bad feelings about those words.

He awaited the bad thing to happen, but nothing happened. Perhaps his master is lucky this day. 

"See? As I said, trust your master" 

She said before eating some fruit.

But before she can finish munching on it, green larvae crawl out of the half-eaten fruit and instantly eat her head with speed before she can scream. The larvae grow bigger and are her body before bursting and turning into big wasps.

Her disciple is so shocked that he can even barely move. 

Before the wasps' leaves, one goes on his side and stabs him with its stinger on the head. 

He doesn't have the time to react because of shock. 

Then finally the wasps' left.

A moment later they're back with dark faces. 

"Let's find another place" 

Her expression is unexplainable. Ever since she came here the inhabitants seem to decide that she will have all their bad luck.

They left the shelter in no time to find another one.

Back to the trio.

They're currently having a conversation since Marlyn told them she can now upgrade the system because there is now enough energy to do so.

But here's the catch. Once she upgrades she will have to choose between multiple features to choose once she upgrades. Marlyn also said there is an additional feature that will be unlocked that can help in creating virtual spaces, but it will be a secret until then.

They already narrowed down the options to the classical three options.

One is an outside sentry, a giant floating orb-like structure that can act like a shop where they can trade and sell VR glasses.

It also has other uses such as Marlyn can project herself there and enjoy. It also possesses a shield that can block any attack and also 4 laser cannons. And the added feature that can teleport users to the sentry when they are in danger.

The second is the mission feature. The system can provide random missions that can reward all sorts of things from precious to common. The rewards are random.

And the last one, the ability to release 4 beasts from the virtual space into the real world.

They talked and talked until, in the end, they decided to choose the first one for varieties of reasons.

After that Marlyn starts upgrading the system and of course eating her favorite roasted chicken. Nothing bad happens to her during the upgrade other than the fact that she wants to eat more chickens.

Speaking of chickens, they are growing a lot lately. One even got two colors now and even more a greater flavor but of course, they didn't eat that one. 

The system only needs a few days to upgrade which is pretty short for them. 

While the system is upgrading they are mostly just playing with their daughter since they are mostly free.

A few days later.

The upgrade is done and now they waiting on the white platform.

They are excited and after some explanation from Marlyn. The last feature is something like a test they can take to evolve into a higher-tier spirit. The magic system creation is something that allows them to finally create a magic system that can be replicated in real life with hard research.

The magic library is something for them since the system does not allow them to learn using the magic system creation. And finally, the important feature that will allow them to increase their player base.

Wasting no time, they tried the first one. The magic library. It took the form of a book floating in the middle of the platform.

They all placed their palms on the book and they got transported into a huge library. Books are lining the bookshelves and there are so many categories. Alchemy, necromancy, pyromancy, etc. 

Most of the upper books are locked, but the lower ones were ripe for picking.

"What do you recommend we start first?" 

Lily gently rubbed her hair.

"Hmmm that one" 

She pointed to a particular book titled "magic foundation" 

As she suggested, they picked it up and read it together with her. 

Two days later they're finally done reading and they think they can now use their abilities better. Tho it's up for debate.

The second feature, the outside sentry currently floats high above the platform.

Like everything here, it is white.

The building itself looks like a two-story building circled by two rings and those rings are connected to the top. Filling the gap between the rings were glass walls. The entrance itself is on the four rings. The bottom of the rings has holes and a staircase extending from them.

Overall it's beautiful. They entered the place and it feels like a normal home.

The first floor has couches around and then a station for buying VR glasses. The glass walls offer a great view.

There is a counter for pastries on the side and behind that is a kitchen. The first floor is pretty big. The second floor is smaller than the first, but it Is cozier with rooms for four equipped with enough utensils and bathrooms. Not that they need a bath since they don't need a bath in the first place, but it is good for clearing someone's mind after a crappy day.

The rooms themselves are good and there is a choice between the mattress and bed.

On the side of the house are four hidden compartments with streamlined bodies.

Overall, it's good.

They sat around the sentry and inspected everything and now they don't know if they made the right choice.

Next up is the Magic system creation. They won't bother with the last feature for now since they are not confident enough to pass.

The magic system creation in itself is simple and hard at the same time. 

It is simple because it is simple, but it is complicated because one error can sabotage the magic system.

" Looks like we're gonna have fun, I haven't used my knowledge about magic systems and now they feel dusty"

Lily brag around arrogantly before getting a smack on the head from Yen

" Don't teach our child such unacceptable behavior "

She turned her around.

" Smacking people on the head is a bad behavior too" 

Lily look over while still rubbing the spot

Then he got another smack and unexpectedly a kiss on the cheeks before his dear and daughter disappeared to do their things.

"Women are scary" 

He murmurs before going on his way.

He made his way to a hut on the top of the flat mountain and just sat there. They are in no hurry to use the outside sentry because that requires planning.

He looks around at the lake. The place has become more beautiful lately. Birds occasionally visit to eat some fish.

The fish in the lake also undergo a transformation. They became plumper and longer like an eel.

The water lilies' roots were good sustenance for them.

Diverting his eyes from the lake, Lily thought of what magic system he can try his hands on. He knows a lot of magic systems, but the most famous one he knows of is necromancy. Back in the days in the afterlife, someone got exiled for creating such a wicked magic system and that is how it became famous. No one likes soul tampering in that place and necromancy become the most famous and most hated magic system there.

As for how he got his hands on a copy? That's a secret for now.

Anyways he knows a not so evil variation of that magic system. The summoning magic system and beast taming magic system.

He then uploaded the Magic systems themselves into the virtual space. 

A list appeared on the front of him, there are already some magic systems there from his daughter and Yen. The systems for all 5 basic elements and also another magic system called the Flower rain magic system. 

He just shrugged his shoulders and added his. 

Meanwhile, the master and disciple duo is exploring the mountain.

They are smart and connect the dots while playing in that world they soon conclude that they are being used to test the device. The fact that that world changes when they played and those things called updates mean that someone is managing that world and using them to test it. They are being used to find faults in that world.

The idea of being used surely stomp on their pride, but the fact that the person in charge can create a whole new world, and even increase their cultivation faster than any pills and treasures just prove the fact that the mysterious figure is a strong grandmaster.

There are 3 cultivation stages, at least stages they know of

Each stage is separated into 9 cultivation realms.

The 3 stages are 

Body building 

To prepare the body for the next stage. 

Qi refining

The body is finally able to muster and turn Spiritual energy into Heavenly energy

The first realm will give them a thin most, the 9th realm will give them a cloud of Heavenly energy. Different quality and purity of energy cloud will give different colors. Brown for impure energy, Pale brown for below average, White for normal, yellow for high quality, and golden for the highest quality.

Lake forming

The Heavenly energy inside the body condenses and turns into a small lake. The higher the quality of the Heavenly energy cloud they had, the bigger the lake will be. 

Fen is currently a 4th realm lake-forming cultivator.

If her speculation is right, the one behind these glasses is beyond those cultivation stages. If she can get someone that strong to support her sect, they will enter a golden era. But it also brings out dangers, what if that person is evil?

"Master, what if we call their attention in that world?" 

Her disciple ran behind her while carrying a tray of meat delicacies. The two changed their diet to meat after that cave accident.

"... You're smart!" 

She stopped and looked at him with a smile.

She took some meat from the tray with a fork.

" But master it's a common knowl-" 

Before he can finish, Fen bites the piece of meat hard sending shivers down the spine of her disciple.

He immediately shut up and took some food for himself.
