"Why haven't we beaten them back yet?!"

This voice belonged to the pope of the Church of Ciel. The man was well built an wore a white robe decorated with various accessories symbolizing his dedication to the church. The man was angry at the lack of progress in conquering the beastmen nations.

"Father, the beastmen we're not affected by the plague that befell us so they are as strong as ten of our own men", the messenger replies. The messenger was from the second division of holy knights the first division was ambushed and completely annihilated.  The entire human race recently had a plague that wiped out over half the population ten years ago. The plague also left the men of nation in a weakened status that lowered thier stats by twenty-five percent. The status was to last for twenty years. The beastmen, already stronger than the average human became a threat to their society. In less than a year after the plague was over several medium sized human countries formed a new country with the church as it's back bone.

The Church of Celia preached human superiority over all of the other races. The church, now having access to extensive military assets, launched an immediate invasion of the beastmen nations. The beastmen didn't stand by and watch though. The invasion was going swimmingly as they encountered little resistance from them. It was all a trap though. The beastmen army came from seemingly nowhere and surrounded sixty percent of the Empires army. They crushed it in two days. Such a large loss devasted the army and large drafts had to be made. The beastmen didn't do a counter invasion however. What they did do however, was set up their defenses along the border. The war has been going on for ten years with the empire only taking ten percent of the beastmen occupied territories.

About a six months ago the pope ordered the head priests to summon a hero. This hero was originally supposed to defeat the Demon King. The atrocious being won't be revived for another five years. However, the church has successfully manipulated the hero into fighting the beastmen.

The pope sighs, "Thank you for your hard work you may go", he says waving the messenger off. The priest slumps in his chair and thinks about the past five years. A spy was able to catch a conversation of a head priest of a rival church. From what the spy was able to gather one of the gods sent down an ancient soul to be reincarnated in the beastmen nation. Some priests would get divine messages like this from time to time.

Celia the god of prosperity sent the pope a similar message after he found out. He was told by her not to kill the child and nothing more. She hardly interferes with her followers and doesn't give any divine punishment. She was the perfect god to control the people with.

The pope sits up and pulls a a drawer open on his desk. He pulls out a medalion from it. The medalion looks like it's of holy origin, but it's an illusion. He dispelled the magic on it revealing it's more sinister appearance.

Medallion of Subservience (Relic)

This medalion links to the Ring of Subservience.

Effect:

Grants the holder of the Ring of Subservience complete control over the wearer of the Medallion of Subservience.

"I was hoping to accomplish two goals this time around but it looks like I'll have to use the hero to ensure that thing's capture", he leans back in his chair holding the medallion close to his heart.

The priest re casts the illusion spell on the pendant and puts it back in the drawer once more.

"David", the priest seemingly calls to no one.

Suddenly, a person sized ball of smoke appears revealing a man dressed in all black. The hood on his head hiding his face leaving only his chin exposed to the light.

"Yes, Father?" David asks.

"How long until the hero returns?" the priest asks.

"A day, sir", David answers.

"Inform the hero that I have obtained an artifact that boost his abilities. Tell him to meet me here as soon as he comes back" the priest says.

"Right away, sir", David answers back.

"I will be sending you and the hero into the beastman nations. You leave as soon as I have full control over the hero. You are to track down the reincarnated soul and bring it to me understand? Carry out your orders." The preist orders.

"Yes, sir", David replies and disappears as fast as he appeared.

The priest moves to the window behind his desk and looks out at the two moons.

"I'll have to end the war early we don't have the troops to maintain our advance" the priest mutters to himself.

I was a fool to think that we could beat the beastmen easily. I thought they were nothing but bugs to stomped out. I mindlessly sent millions to die. I will use these last few months of my rule to set in motion my plan to eradicate them. I'll have to escape to somewhere remote as well.

The pope continues to go over his plans while gazing at the green moon in the sky.
