Fritz
The king was dead.
Fritz sat on his and Paula's bed and stared at the ceiling. Paula was lying next to him. It was already late and the children were asleep. A few hours ago, a letter had arrived with the sad news and an invitation, no, an order to attend the funeral.
"It never was a natural death", Paula murmured. "Never."
"Possibly." Fritz didn't know what to think. "I trust my mother to do that."
"You're going to the funeral?"
Fritz lay down with a sigh. "We're going to the funeral."
"I'll take the kids to my parents tomorrow. And that's where they stay for now. I will not expose them to your mother's wrath." Paula snorted. "Or I'll take them to Hany. Maybe that's better if she sends someone to my parent to look after our children... She is a dangerous and insane person! Hany and his wife want children, but they were never lucky. They are happy to take care of both of them."
"And what about us?"
"We'll bring them back to us when it's safe again." A tear rolled down Paula's cheeks. "Whenever that will be. They can’t stay here. Hany will be a good father."
Fritz nodded.
Julia
Peter had received the news of King Friedrich's death very composed when Julia finally was brave enough to tell him about this part of her vision. She herself did not know what to feel... Her father had been more loving than the queen, but he was gone often. Always on the move on behalf of the queen, or he hid in the library to have his peace there. She had few memories of him playing with her when she was little. And Peter? The last thing he did was argue with him.
They had not been able to say goodbye. Julia buried her face in her pillow and pulled her blanket over her head.
Should she mourn? It all seemed so far away to her. This vision. Had this really happened?
She pondered for quite a while until she fell asleep late at night.
Julia walked through white clouds and dazzling light in soft rainbow colors. Whispering voices came from somewhere, but she saw no one. Sometimes she heard the sound of flapping wings or a soft laugh. Everything seemed enchanted. As if she were standing amid gentle magic.
She walked through the dazzling cloud fog for quite a while until she found two women with bird's feet and magnificent wings. The two smiled at her. Julia stopped for a moment. Should she go to them?
"Come on, child!", said one of the women. Her wings shimmered in white and gold. She had golden hair and wore a dress of light. How old could she be? Twenty?
Were they harpies?
"I think she's still confused!" The other woman laughed in amusement and shook her grey wings. Her hair was also grey, although she was not old. Maybe a little over thirty?
"More than just confused!", Julia replied and came to them. "Who are you? And where am I?"
"You made a little journey. I knew you would come to meet us." The woman with the white and golden wings wrapped one of her wings around Julia. She felt strangely safe around her and the feathers seemed softer to her than those of the dragons. It didn't bother her that this stranger embraced her.
"A journey?"
"My name is Iris and this is Jane. She's a shaman." The stranger with the white wings winked at Julia. So close the golden hues of the feathers seemed pale. "You're dreaming right now. And your dream has led you to us. Are you thinking about going on a long trip soon?"
Julia nodded.
"You are planning to visit us too?", asked the other. Jane. She looked at Julia skeptically. "Iris spoke of a future queen, but you seem to be very young. How old are you? Sixteen?"
"Nineteen", Julia replied. "How do you know what I'm planning?"
"Oh! I didn't know until Iris told me about it. She can see into the future. She used to be a witch." Jane shrugged. "It's complicated."
"Not really!" Iris stuck out her tongue at the other harpy. "Magic. Nothing more. But, Julia?" Now she looked at Julia. "It is important that you also visit us. You're already thinking about it?"
Julia nodded again. She felt increasingly confused. "Yes. It was a thought. And I had a vision..."

This seemed to please Iris. "Ah! I didn't know anything about that. You've seen what's coming?"
"A war. For that, I need an army. But I have no idea about such things..." Julia sighed and looked at the white, gold, and gray wings of Iris and Jane. They were beautiful. How did it feel to fly yourself?
"It is important for the future that we work together!", said Iris. "The fate of all of us depends on it!" She nudged Julia with her wing to regain back her attention.
"She talks about fate all the time", Jane murmured to Julia. "I'm rather confused by the whole thing. But apparently, I'm supposed to wait for you behind the desert. She also said you had dragons?"
"I'm standing right in front of you Jane", Iris reprimanded, rolling her eyes.
Now it was Jane who stuck out her tongue.
Julia laughed. "Two dragons, yes. They are my family."
"I will wait for you!" Jane smiled. The two harpies faded like wafts of mist before Julia's eyes. The feeling of the feathers also disappeared. She woke up.
Next to her head lay Josef. This time not as a cat, but as a black, fluffy fox. Julia grinned. She had told Josefine before they went to bed that she thought foxes were cute. A few birds could be heard. The sun would soon rise. Finn was already awake and Josef looked at her tiredly. Julie sat up and stretched yawning.
"I had a strange dream", Julia murmured, hugging Josef. His fur felt unfamiliar.
Finn just muttered something and blinked lazily.
"I met two harpies. Jane and Iris. Was it a dream? Maybe it wasn't one..." She petted Josef's fur. The little fox yawned contentedly and looked at her with interest. Finn, on the other hand, lay down again and pulled the blanket over his head.
"Too early for visions", he murmured, and soon fell asleep again.
"I made my decision. I will visit the harpies first. They said it was important", Julia told Josef. "For that, we have to go through the desert. What do you think about that?"
Josef jumped out of her arms and took human form again. Josefine looked at Julia with delight. "The desert? And the mountains?", she whispered. "Mom's home?"
"Yes, exactly."
Josefine hugged Julia tiredly. "That sounds good. You'll tell me the rest later, yes?" She yawned lazily.
After breakfast was the next flight lesson. And with plenty of spectators. Some centaurs, including Flordelis and Finja, joined Julia, Fiete, and Josefine.
Leopold was making tea for everyone around the campfire. His parents talked to Elodie and Liam. Pepe and Maleen played catch, with Maleen always escaping the werewolf. She could fly. Pepe couldn’t. Sofia sat with Leopold. The two talked. From time to time he smiled at Julia. Peter joked with Flordeli's brother Tiyam and Marko and Finn were sitting on a blanket. They were all waiting for the next flight.
Fiete had already turned into a dragon. Just like Josef, who wanted to follow them. The two were busy trying to push each other into the river. Julia rolled her eyes. She didn't want to sit on a wet dragon. But the two high-spirited reptiles were unstoppable. Julia didn't want to try either. The two were one size too big for her. Literally.
Sofia and Leopold distributed the tea. Then Leopold stood by her. "The two seem to be having fun!”, he said, watching the two dragons. Joseph was throwing himself at his uncle just now.
"Certainly." Julia shook her head. Fiete managed to push Josef into the river. The black dragon snorted annoyed and climbed out of the water. Then he shook himself dry. Especially the wet wings.
Fiete wore a new rope around his neck, which Julia could hold onto. It had been better fortified for both of them. "Well then! I think we’re ready to go!", she said.
"I'm trying to accompany you a bit!" Leopold winked at her.
Fiete was already waiting. He nudged Julia with his muzzle. She stroked the velvety and somewhat damp scales. Josef had sprayed him wet. Then Leopold helped her climb on the dragon's back. Julia held on. "Leopold wants to try to keep up!", she told the two dragons, who snorted in amusement.
"Just make fun of me!", the elf grumbled.
"Gladly!" Julia winked at him. Then she stroked Fiete's wings. "I'm ready to go!"
And he started to move. The dragon slowly straightened up and started moving with his strong wing. Leopold also took off. With enough distance to the dragons so that their wings did not hit him. Julia held on tightly as they slowly flew higher and higher. Josef followed them without any problems, but Leopold couldn’t keep up with the two dragons. Finally, the elf gave up. "You're too fast!", Julia heard him call.
Then Fiete got a little faster. Julia clung to the rope and leaned tightly against his neck to avoid falling off. It was exhausting to stay on to the dragon. Maybe she needed a saddle after all?
Fiete flew high above the tent village. Josef flew beside him. Julia watches as the black dragon glided through the air and soon flew over Fiete and Julia. She laughed. Flying was wonderful!
When Fiete started the landing flight, Julia was already mourning the feeling of flying. Her hands hurt. It was clearly time for a landing.
But Julia was sure of one thing. She loved flying.
