Chapter 9 - Special Delivery

 

In the early morning, shops are slowly starting to open up. A couple is seen on their morning jog. And Kai stands in the middle of the empty road. Looking at the District Capital.

 

Captain John: After yesterday, I expected some sort of meeting… But a call from the man himself is nothing to scoff at.

Kai: The last time we were called here was during that Dae situation.. And that was already almost a month ago.

Saiko: Yeah… let’s head in.

 

The team makes their way to the Capital, with Ruby waiting for them at the front door.

 

Kai: Hey, Ruby!

Ruby: Hello, Team Aura! District Leader Lucas is waiting for you in his office! Please follow me!

 

After just a bit of more walking, the team enters the office.

 

Lucas: Ah, team Aura! I'm glad you're here early but…

Ruby: District Leader Lucas! Your robe is inside out and your hair is sloppy! I told you to be ready before you came to the office!

Lucas: I’m sorry! I’m just excited to start today!

Ruby: (pulls out a lint roller) You’re not off the hook, mister! *turns around to Aura* just a sec, guys!

 

Ruby speedwalks over to Lucas and starts helping him fix his looks while lecturing him about rushing in the morning.

 

Zeke: Jeez, politics really do destroy people.

Saiko: I think for District Leader Lucas, it’s less politics, and more paperwork

Lucas: exactly! Uh- i mean, it's a lot but, you gotta do what needs to be done!

Ruby: (tightens his collar) There, all done! Now you’re presentable. 

Captain John: Alright, Lucas. Let's get the game plan on.

Lucas: Yes, of course. Kai and Saiko, the idea you sent me on using the weaponry you confiscated was of great help. 

Zeke: Where’s the weapons now?

Lucas: We have Shadow Sun's equipment hidden under top security, and the city will be given a strict quarantine zone. So once the plan goes underway and the battle that will happen, happens. It won't lead to any unnecessary casualties

Kai: Um, is Blue Oak street safe?

Ano: Our neighborhood?

Lucas: Don't worry Kai, that road isn’t on our map.

Kai: Oh, thank you!

Zeke: So, can we hear the plan now?

Lucas: We’re just waiting our second team comes in

Saiko: Second?

Lucas: I feel this mission is too important for 1 team to handle, and I figured this team would benefit the mission by tagging along. They should be here any minute.

The door behind them opens.

Lucas: Ah, right on time.

Hera: Hey, Aura!

 

Team Beast walks through the door, and extends their greetings.

 

Hera: It's good to see ya again!

Kai: Hera! You're coming too?

Zeke: This is going to be fun!

Hera: You bet! It’ll be fun to have a little competition with you, again. It’s been a while!

Felt: Just remember not to hurt anybody too badly.

Hera: I got it, I got it.

Saiko: Hello, Felt. Hera giving you trouble as usual?

Felt: I’ve been managing with this firecracker, here!

 

Vanessa gives an awkward glare at Kai.

 

Kai: Yo Gira! How've you been?

Gira: I-I'm fine, thanks!

Captain Rose: Captain John, hello. I see you’ve been busy these past few weeks.

Captain John: Same to you, Rose. Hope your garden’s alright.

Captain Rose: Huh, didn’t think you’d care about something like that.

Captain John: Eh, just trying to talk with an old friend.

 

Lucas: I'm glad we're all acquainted. Now that we’re all here, I'll give out the details. We’ll be pretending to transport the weapons in an armored vehicle, which will be protected by you 2. 

We'll drive as a unit, Aura and Beast will be in parallel lanes in separate cars, and head for the road that leads into  Cona district. Since that would logically put us on the path to Wynus District. I've gotten special permission from the Cona District's Leader Wu, so no worries.

Captain John: We’re not actually gonna hand anything over to those guys, are we?

Lucas: Worry not, Captain John. We won’t make it to Wynus District. Or even Cona. Because Shadow Sun, if they take the bait, will intercept us. From there, you all will mount an assault, and attempt to capture that group once and for all. Do you all understand the mission?

Everyone: Yes sir! 

 

Lucas: Good, you’ll depart in 2 hours, so get ready!

Soon enough, Captain John and Rose’s cars are driving through the empty streets with the armored truck in-between.

 

 

Kai: Do you guys think they'll really take the bait?

Saiko: They have too, they risked their necks for it.

Zeke: I'm getting excited! 

Ano: (notices Kai's face is moody) Kai, what’s up?

Kai: Huh? Sorry, I'm just trying to think.

Ano: About what?

Kai: …About the chance if he appears again.

Captain John: if he does, me and Rose handle him alone.

Saiko: That's a death wish!

Captain John: Don't worry about us. We’ll be fine. Or at least I will. He might bring gardening tools for Rose.

*radio static from the walkie talkie in Captain John’s pocket starts up*

Captain Rose: I heard that, stubby.

Captain John: … 

Zeke: don’t worry, Captain john. I- 

 

A small spark of electricity ignites from Zeke’s hair.

Zeke: Captain John, they’re here1

Captain John: Rose, contact Ruby and tell her to confirm any nearby targets with her portal thing.

 

Just a few seconds.

 

Captain Rose: Confirmed. ready?

Captain John: heh, you bet!

 

Slain is quickly running on the edge of the rooftops catching up to the cars with his Scythe on his back propelling fire to make him run faster. While running, he thinks back to a previous memory just a few hours ago…

Slain: The heck is that?

 

He asks Rico, who’s holding a white small piece of jewelry for him to see as he’s tying his boots.

 

Rico: This is one of those Aur stones you’ve been hearing about lately.

Slain: Oh, yeah. Those illegal gems that science girl’s been needin’. 

Rico: They’re only illegal in this District, as far as I know. I swiped from the stolen stash of blank gems and got fanz to make me 2 special orders in secret. This is a Portal Aura stone.

Slain: Two?

 

Slain finishes tying his show and stands back up in time for Rico to hand him one of them.

 

Rico: If things go south out there, I want you to use one of them.

Slain: Eh, sorry. But i’m not gonna back down from a fight this time. Not after what it meant last time. Besides, wouldn’t you rather keep it in case the other gets broken or somethin’?

Rico: i don’t have to explain why I want you to have it, I just need you to have it. Got it?

 

She grabs Slain’s wrist and places it in his hands. And the 2 share a serious look.

He notices the cars start to slow down and decides to jump into the air and slashes downward sending a wave of fire. Captain John sharply turns the car and pops out the door with his blade, swinging a star at the wave, causing a explosion in the air.

 

Captain John: Alright, everyone. Let’s do this!

 

Team Aura all step out and surround the car, battle ready.

 

Slain: Sorry, fellas! But your delivery’s canceled!

Kai: It’s that guy!

Zeke: Alright! Round 2! 

 

Zeke zaps off the roof of the car to the rooftop.

 

Kai: Zeke! Agh!

 

Kai gets into a jumping position for a second before managing to correctly use his ability and rockets up to the roof to back Zeke up.

 

Saiko: Should we follow them?

Ano: they can handle that guy

 

Slain places a finger on his earpiece.

 

Slain: Alright, do it now!

 

Captain John becomes alert and notices a portal form behind Team Beast who stepped out of their car and went behind the truck. The team noticed this too and immediately dodge a flurry of Ice shards that managed to damage the truck. Rico hops through the portal and side steps for the numerous masked individuals dash through the portal and a few of them use Wind Power to lift the truck and dash back through the portal quickly. 

 

Felt: Oh no!

Vanessa: My Wind Power isn’t strong enough to swipe it back from them!

Captain Rose: *dashes towards the masked people leaving through the portal* Then we're following them and bringing them to their knees! Felt, Gira and Vanessa. You’re with me1 Hera, support team aura!

Hera, Felt, Gira and Vanessa: Yes Captain!

 

The rest of team Beast follow chase as hera stands behind. She gets ready for battle as she looks  at rico, before a piece of wall debris is thrown at Rico, forcing her to block. Saiko slides across the floor and stands next to hera.

 

Saiko: Captain john sent me, i’ll assist you!

 

Rico: Oh lookie, one of the kids that bested me in the warehouse.You won’t be getting another win on me!

 

Rico takes her Cold Claw and lunges forward, Saiko attempts to Thread the broken pieces of debris behind her but is caught off guard by Hera jumping in and giving a good swing in Rico's face.

 

Hera: If the captain can jump into the fray, if Felt can claw at any obstacle, then I can do my part too! Ready, Saiko?

Saiko: Yeah… Yes! Let's do this!

 

Captain John quickly notices a portal form under him and Ano and grabs Ano to jump out of the way. A separate portal forms in front of them and Fanz walks out.

 

Fanz: Xaylian said i’d need to be close to survey the fight and make sure anyone can get away. But i’ll take you guys down and make up for my mishap yesterday!

 

Captain John: Listen, Ano. I’m gonna make up for lost time and start shwing you kids the ropes, so get ready!

Ano:... Yes Sir!

 

Zeke shoots a few bolts towards Slain that he slashes at to block, followed by Kai quickly firing a sphere that gets a direct hit.

Slain: Y'know, If I get the tech junk back. Shadow sun’ll have an easier time mopping the floor with you guys1 And the sooner that happens, the sooner i get a way to savin’ my buds!  So I'm not losing today!

Zeke: That's fine! We weren't looking for quitters today anyways!

Kai: He's very fired up!

Talin: When is he not?

 

Slain sends a huge flame wave with Kai and Zeke dodging, Rico gets out of the rubble and dashes towards the 2, Saiko and Hera stand ready, Ano raises his arms and Captain John raises his sword.

 

The battle begins.
