Chapter 30: [Vol. 3] [Chapter 26: Memories of That Time] {26}

The sky looks bright and cloudy. On The fourth-floor veranda behind the center main building of the Yokai Controller Association headquarters, Suga and the east leader appears to talk to each other. The eastern leader is wearing a long-sleeved gray shirt with a suit vest, with the top buttons unbuttoned and a loosened tie, black trousers, and black loafers. The eastern leader turned his head slightly, but his face still couldn't be seen completely, only part of it around his mouth was visible. The eastern leader said

"Before discussing this matter, there is someone who wants to meet you"

Not long after, a man wearing a long-sleeved white shirt without a tie that looked not too neat, black trousers, and black loafers. His hair looks a little long and styled back. This man wore a black mask on the upper half of his face, which on the eyes part of this mask is non-see through shiny glass so that this man's eyes are not visible. This man walked from beside Suga, he then raised his left hand to give a greeting gesture, while saying

“Yeah, and that someone is me”

Suga immediately turned to this man, with a surprised expression. Suga thought to himself

"Since when…"

Suga appeared oblivious to the existence of this man until this man spoke. He is the “West Leader” one of the leaders of the Yokai Controller Association. From his voice, this man wasn't present when Suga came to the leaders' hall before.

The west leader then stood next to the east leader, and also faced the forest scenery here just like the east leader did. The western leader then slightly bent forward to rest on the veranda railing here using his forearms. The western leader looked at the eastern leader beside him

"I want to talk a little with Suga, is that okay?"

The Eastern Leader looked a little astonished

"Yes, please"

  The western leader smiled. Without looking back, the western leader said

"Suga san, where is Nellson? I didn't feel his presence”

Suga's expression changed to astonishment

"Nellson is also here with me sir..."

From behind Suga, Nellson with the size of an owl in general then flew up to Suga.

The western leader said all that while still not turning his head, as if he could see what was happening behind him. Suga smiled

"Your keen senses, I also never get tired of looking at it sir..."

The western leader smiled

Suga's calm expression was now mixed with expression as if he was slightly bothered by this question. Suga covered his left eye with his left hand, he then answered

"When with Nellson, only my one eye could recover to see. As a "replace", one of Nellson's eyes became blind. Both my eyes can also see again, but in exchange, Nellson will be blind in both eyes…”

Nellson appeared to react to hearing this and now looked at Suga in astonishment. Suga then lowered his hands from his eyes. The western leader smiled

Suga looked a little surprised

For some reason, Suga's expression turned gloomy and he couldn't continue his words. The western leader then turned around and is now facing Suga, while leaning on the verandah railing here

“Can you tell me what you and Nellson were whispering to each other?”

Even though Suga looked gloomy and bothered by this, he appeared like he was trying to force himself to say it. Suga was about to refuse, but he felt an invisible pressure coming from the direction of the western leader, making him feel an indistinct pain all over his body, and his breath began to be short.

Due to this pressure, Suga started to open his mouth slightly and was about to tell the western leader what he and Nellson whispered to each other, but was stopped because the eastern leader said

"Enough!"

The eastern leader said in a raised voice, making the western leader turn towards him with an astonished expression. On the other hand, Suga appeared to be looking far below, with shortness of breath. The eastern leader said

"If you don't have anything important to say, get out of here"

The western leader smiled, he then stood up from his lean and made a gesture by raising his two shoulders

"Okay, okay, I won't bother you guys anymore"

The western leader grinned, he then started walking away from here, past Suga who was still looking far down, and Nellson who appeared to be watching the western leader's departure in astonishment.

Now there's only Suga, Nellson, and the eastern leader. The eastern leader looked back slightly, then said

"Can we continue our discussion Suga?"

Suga came to his senses, he then looked at the eastern leader with an awkward expression, his shortness of breath appeared to have returned to normal

“Yes, of course, sir, no need to mind it”

The eastern leader appeared to react flatly, he then replied

“You already know that missions and all kinds of details should only be told to fellow Association members, and even then, they are sometimes limited. The Association's rules are absolute and must not be broken, even by the leader. Thus, telling the details of any mission to the Takeru family was an act of treason. So, Let's say the Takeru family refuses our request, but if we explain our reasons to the Takeru family, they might understand and reconsider their decision to join. So the other plan is to get one member of the Takeru family to join, then tell them the details, so that they can pass it on to Makoto”

Suga looked a little surprised

The eastern leader smiled

Back to Suga, he appeared to be lost in his thoughts, while looking at the scenery outside his car window, but his eyes were looked far away. Nellson is standing on the car seat next to Suga, looking at him with an astonished look. Suga thought to himself

 

“The Yokai controller ability that can temporarily restore my blind eyes is called “Swap Fate”. This is a rare technique that not all Yokai controllers can master. This technique can make a condition on a part of Yokai's body, swapping it with the controller's body's condition. The wider the condition of the body area that is exchanged, the greater the Yokai's stamina will be drained. This is "temporary", and if a part of the body that switches state is injured, the wound will be transferred to the Yokai's body. On several occasions, this ability can save "temporarily" the condition of the Yokai controller body that is seriously injured. But unfortunately, the wounds that transfer to the Yokai's body will not be able to regenerate like when they get normal wounds, making them feel the pain of the wound continuously and weakening them if the wound is too severe. This is why, when the Yokai's time of existence and stamina runs out, the damage returns to the Controller. Suga's expression looked flat, he was still lost in his thought while looking at the scenery outside his car window, looking far away. The driver glanced at Suga who was lost in thought through the rearview mirror with a surprised look

Hearing this, made Suga immediately came to his senses. Suga smiled, he then looked at the driver

"I'd better be prepared, in a few days the situation might get crowded"

The driver who looked at Suga through the rearview mirror then replied

The western leader slightly bent his body and rested on the verandah railing here using his crossed forearms. Suddenly, a man wearing a black Japanese men's kimono with long hair that partly covered his face sat on the veranda railing here. His body was visibly muscular, and on his back was a Yokai Controller Association overcoat that he wore like a robe. This man is Kagoshima Dojo, in his 30s and a member of the Yokai Controller Association. Kagoshima said

"Is it okay to sacrifice Suga like that?"

The western leader smiled

“I prefer to use the word bet"

Kagoshima replied

"How can you be so sure?"

The western leader replied

“Therefore, I assigned you a special mission. So that not just eastern leader have fun”

The western leader smirked. Kagoshima crossed his arms, and his expression then turned curious. Flashback ended.
