The storm rolled in, its slow passage casting a shadow over an otherwise strong night sky. The rain poured down, beating down hard on the roofs and gutters of the city. The apartment’s windows lit up, a light flickering on one side of Yang Xihe’s face.

Dead?

Yang Xuerou’s words struck her like thunder.

Yang Xihe held her cousin's hand tightly as though grasping for the last life straw.

Yes, Hei Yuan was already dead. She died on a summer night three years ago. She was buried in the deep and boundless sea. How could she come back to find her?

Despite all the logical reasons proving otherwise, her heart still stubbornly denied the inevitable.

Her lips trembled as she muttered desperately, "But I really saw her… why don't you believe me..."

"Okay, I'll take a look at it for you." But Yang Xuerou agreed with her and slowly moved towards the door, hesitating for a moment before braving herself to look outside through the door hole.

The fear of the darkness made her dally. Her mouth kept on trying to dispel the gloomy and terrifying feeling with her voice.

"Sister, it's August, and you may be in a bad mood and get sick again. It's alright, it's easy to think wildly at night. Let's go back and sleep... Huh, see what I said… it's impossible, there's nothing outside."

The corridor was dark, but it was also empty. Not to mention Hei Yuan, there was not even a shadow of a person. Yang Xuerou breathed a sigh of relief, stood up straight and smiled, comforting her cousin. "Don't think about it anymore, it's not your fault. Let's go back to sleep."

When Yang Xihe's old illness started to act up, she often couldn't distinguish between hallucinations and reality. As a good relative, she took the initiative to help her distinguish the truth.

Yang Xihe trusted her and believed that Xueruo would not lie to herself.

However, people always love to deceive themselves.

Yang Xihe sniffed, raised her hand and wiped the tears from her face. In order to prevent Xueruo from feeling more anxious, she deliberately showed a relaxed smile and said, "Really? Then let me take a look for the last time."

She stepped forward, raised her hands, and put her palms on the cold door.

Yang Xuerou glanced at her worriedly, stepped aside, and let her unwilling cousin do what she wanted.

When Yang Xihe put her eyes on the door hole, she stopped. After a while, she shrugged her shoulders twice, straightened up, raised her hand and wiped her face. The smile on her lips was a little lonely.

"Maybe I see it wrong just like you said. Okay, let's go back to sleep."

"That's right, rest early." Yang Xuerou said with a smile while holding her sister's arm, "You have a fever during the day and now you stay up late. What if you fall sick again?"

"I'm already fine, I didn't stay up late." Yang Xihe assured her seriously, "It's just that the thunder was too loud, and I couldn't sleep."

On this stuffy night, there was no air conditioner and the thunder outside was so loud. Who knew how many people were forced to wake up from their dreams?

But suddenly, a gust of cold wind crept in through the gap in the door, sweeping away the heat in the room.

"Hey!" Yang Xuerou wrinkled her nose suspiciously, "Why does it smell so salty?"

Yang Xihe shook her head, indicating that she didn't know, but an inexplicable thought popped up in her mind, and she suddenly stopped.

"It's the smell of the sea..."

The next moment, she pulled her arm out of Yang Xuerou's arms, twisted her body around, and slammed into the door. For the third time, Yang Xihe looked out through the peephole.

It happened so quickly that Yang Xuero didn’t have time to react. She couldn’t understand why Yang Xihe suddenly broke away from her arm. She hurriedly grabbed Yang Xihe's hand again, trying to keep her away from the door.

"Sister, what did you sense? Don't believe it, it's all fake."

"It's not a fake." Yang Xihe's voice was strangely calm, "It's true, you smelled it too."

Yang Xuerou was stunned. "Huh?"

Yang Xihe’s back leaned against the door powerlessly. She looked back at her cousin. Half of her pale cheeks were hidden in her long black hair.

"You smelled it too, Xueruo, don’t try to fool me. She… she really came back. She came back from the sea to find me."

Yang Xihe’s pale lips crescent into a smile.

Yang Xuerou shook her head and replied in an unconfident tone. "Sister, you have been under too much mental pressure recently... Don't scare me like this. There are no ghosts in this world."

Yang Xihe suddenly held her cousin's hand and pulled her to her side at once.

She bit her lower lip tightly, restraining her impulse.

"If you don't believe me, look at the ground."

Yang Xuerou shook her head, scared witless. "Can I not look? It's scary."

Yang Xihe touched her cousin's head and said softly, "Okay, Xiaoxue, you should go to rest first."

"How about you?"

Yang Xihe looked at her, suddenly reached out and unscrewed the door bolt, grabbing the door handle to open the door!

Yang Xuerou screamed and reacted quickly, her whole body pressing on the door panel to stop Yang Xihe from opening the door.

"Don't open the door!"

Even if there was nothing outside the door, it would still scare people to death!

Yang Xuerou wanted to cry but had no tears. She shivered and peeked through the door hole.

"Did you see it? There is a puddle of water on the ground! It must be evidence of her coming back!" Yang Xihe looked at her expectantly.

Yang Xuerou observed it carefully for a while, then turned around and pushed Yang Xihe's shoulders and walked back. "Okay, okay, there's really nothing, you see it wrong."

Although she said that with a straight face, her hand trembled slightly and her palm was soaked with cold sweat.

Yang Xuerou was younger than Yang Xihe, but she had practised Jiu-Jitsu since junior high school. Her strength was much stronger than Yang Xihe's. She dragged her cousin back to the living room, and Yang Xihe couldn't resist at all.

Yang Xihe looked a little dazed and said aggrievedly, "I saw it wrong again? But you also smelled the wind just now."

"I won’t lie to you." Yang Xuerou vowed, "Maybe it's the smell of seafood bought by the neighbours. Don't think about it anymore; come, take some medicine and go to bed earlier."

Yang Xihe knew her fault and trusted Yang Xuerou, so she stood in front of the water dispenser and sighed lightly, then took the warm water and swallowed the medicine.

This time she ate one more pill than usual.

Is it fake? Is it really fake?

The pain that was difficult to distinguish didn't want to believe and had to admit, made Yang Xihe's heartthrob.

Fortunately, she quickly fell asleep with the help of the medicinal power, without having to continue to suffer the pain of missing her beloved.

Yang Xuerou squeezed into Yang Xihe's bed on the pretext of being afraid of thunder.

After making sure Yang Xihe fell into a deep sleep, Yang Xuerou finally showed a frightened look. She held the phone tightly and opened her browser. While cursing in her heart, she typed on the screen tremblingly.

—Help! Is there anyone who knows how to exercise evil spirit and ghost?! Waiting for the answer online, it’s urgent!!
