Chapter 11: Chapter 7 Part 1

After walking for nearly three hours, Yu Xinyue finally saw a village gate made of bamboo. The walls of this village are made of mud and stone, simple but strong enough to resist any attack by low-grade demon beasts or bandits.

When she walked to the gate of the village, she saw a long queue in the village. She followed in line, waiting for her turn. She didn’t know that she had to pay the entrance fee until she was near the guard. However, she has no money at all. She is really poor in this world, ah.

Just when she was thinking about what she should do, a carriage passed by, a girl in pink clothes lifted the curtain of the carriage and said in a hurried tone, “Open the way! Madam is injured!”

The guard saw the emblem on the carriage and quickly cleared the way to let the carriage pass. Yu Xinyue saw blood dripping from the center of the carriage. Someone was bleeding inside, and it wasn’t a minor injury. She pushed away the people in front of her and strode towards the carriage, preventing the carriage from leaving.

“Sister, I’m a medicine practitioner. Let me go in and see your Madam.” She said solemnly.

The little maid looked at her Madam’s situation and hesitated for a while before letting her come in. “Come in, hurry up!”

She didn’t waste any more time and climbed into the carriage. There was a strong smell of rust in the carriage. Inside, she saw a woman in luxurious clothes holding her bulging belly with a pale face. She was pregnant and was stabbed with a dagger on the left side of her abdomen!

She squatted in front of the woman, held her wrist, and checked her pulse. The woman opened her eyes and said weakly, “Physician, please save my baby.”

She looked at the woman and said, “I will do everything in my power to save you and your babies.”

The fetus’ condition was not good. The dagger was deep and only a milimeter away from one of the babies. She needs to do an operation to save both mother and babies. Taking out a jade bottle and gourd from her space, she took out a pill and held it near that woman’s lips while saying, “Take this Coagulation Pill. It will help stop your bleeding.”

Before the young maid could stop her Madam, that woman opened her pale lips and took the  Coagulation Pill. She strangely believes this young lady in front of her even though they are strangers. Yu Xinyue opened the gourd and fed her some of the spring of life water.

After taking the Coagulation Pill and drinking some of the spring of life water, that woman’s breathing became a bit stronger and her bleeding started to lessen. Yu Xinyue looked outside from the window and asked, “How much longer before we reached? I need to treat your Madam immediately if we want to save the babies.”

“In a few minutes.” The driver replied with a shaking voice.

Yu Xinyue held onto the woman’s hand and said, “Don’t worry, you and your babies will be alright.” 

That woman nodded weakly, she had no more energy left. This time going out was the worst decision she ever made. She should listen to her son and stay at home in this chaotic time. She only hopes that her baby will be alright.

They finally arrived after a few minutes. Yu Xinyue jumped from the horse carriage and bent down before saying, “Quick, help your Madam down. I will hold on to her.”

The young maid was scared to move her Madam but when she saw her Madam ashen face, she gritted her teeth and held onto her Madam. Yu Xinyue felt a heavy weight leaning on her body, but not knowing from where she got the strength, she straightened her waist and walked in a large yet steady steps, following the young maid.

The position of the dagger was tricky. So, she holds the woman’s body while avoiding the dagger. They walked into a courtyard and the young maid opened the door while shouting, “Someone, call the physician! Madam was injured, quick!”

With her shout, a lot of maids and servants were running around in panic. Some went out to look for a physician, some went to another place to call for their Lord, and others were busy bringing hot water and clean cloth.

Yu Xinyue put down that woman gently on the bed and quickly checked on her pulse. The baby’s condition was stabilized but the mother’s condition worsened. 

“Bring a stove and close the door. I need to do an operation right now. Quickly!” She urged the young maid when she saw that she was standing there stunned.

Seeing that the maids were in a state of panic, Yu Xinyue knew she couldn’t depend on them. She took out a jar of wine, a bronze basin, a thin small dagger, a pair of scissors, a set of acupuncture needles, a roll of thin white silk thread, and a dark iron stove from her space. 

After putting the bronze basin above the stove, she poured wine into it. Pulling down the bed curtain, she cut the woman’s clothes into half with the scissors. The young maid yelped when she saw what she was doing.

“Audacious!” The young maid shouted at her.

“Shut up if you want to save your Madam!” Yu Xinyue shouted back, she had no time to bother with these ridiculous rules. Saving life was more important.

The young maid was taken aback and shut her mouth, albeit looking at her with anger and distrust.

She ignored that young maid. Her hand moves fast, cleaning the acupuncture needles with the hot wine inside the basin, she stabbed it onto that woman’s acupoints to stop her bleeding and guard her heart. Her heartbeat was so weak, it’s hard to guarantee her survival chance without blood transfusion.

Her eyes suddenly light up when she remembers the Golden Fire Pill. Golden Fire Pill could be used to clear poison and replenishing Qi and blood at the same time. It’s the best pill for this woman right now. Taking out a jade bottle from her space, she fed the woman the Golden Fire Pill. 

She found more of Golden Fire Pill when she was looking for the hen before. There is a pagoda tower on the other side of the lake. Inside this pagoda tower, there is a lot of shelf embedded in the pagoda tower’s wall that is filled with tons of jade bottles. She doesn’t know who the previous owner was, but those pills were a lifesaver for people.

After feeding the woman with the Golden Fire Pill, Yu Xinyue took out the thin sharp dagger from its scabbard and cleaned it with hot wine. Taking a deep breath, she steady her hand and cutted open across the lower abdomen, below the belly button, and just above the start of pubic hair. She was doing a vertical incision C-section. 

She only used it since it’s an emergency and she needs better access to the baby quickly. The drawbacks of this vertical incision are that a VBAC is not possible in later pregnancies due to the risk of uterine rupture and the scar is more visible. On the plus side, this type of incision usually results in less bleeding for the mother.

Since this woman was having a triplet, this is the best method to save both mother and babies. With the curtain down, the young maid doesn’t know what she was doing, nor does she dare to disturb her Madam’s treatment.
